Hi All,

Just after a little advice from anyone that may be able to assist me
with making a decision to move my twins into their own rooms.

The have currently been sharing their room from the day they have come
home from Hospital and also shared their cot for the 1st four months,
but it has gotten to the stage now where, one will go down to sleep
easy and the other wants to be up chatting (or screaming.)among other
reasons, this is the main reason why I am seriously thinking about it.

I guess I just wanted to hear if other parents have their twins in
separate rooms & how the transition went.... I dont want to separate
them if it will make my situation worse.

Any ideas??

Hi Fiona,

I had to laugh when I read your message, I know exactly what you
mean about the little old ladies, my girls are now 81/2 months and I
still have to cover them up (poor little darlin's)to make shopping
easier, I know that they are only curious and amazed by our
multiples but what they dont understand is that it has taken hours
for you to get out of the house.

I too lived in Pj's for the first 3-4 months,I have made mysself a
rule now that I have to be in & out of the shower before my hubby
leaves for work or somedays I would never get there.

I look forward to catching up with you & meeting your little family
at the Coffee mornings and dont forget we are have a babies & Non
Walkers BBQ on the 17th December - check out your current Newsletter
for details.

Hi my name is Fiona and I am a still in shock mum of 11 week old fraternal twin boys Marley (7lb 1oz) and Mereki (8lb 6oz). My husband (Paddy) and I also have 4 other kids - Kelsey 12, Keely 10, Mason 8 and Kambell 5. It was such a shock when this old girl found out she was pregnant with twins whilst in the midst of having an amniocentesis at 16 weeks.

Can someone tell me where to purchase the rulebook on having and living with twins?

I am so looking forward to meeting other normal mums and dads to see how normal we really are or for that matter how nuts we are.

Please tell me if some of the traits of being the mum of twins is that I am still running around in my PJ's at 10 o'clock (sometimes 12) in the morning, and that the ability to think straight will get better or that going out for the day seems like a good idea at the time but once I am out I think why did I do that.

Is it me or am I imagining the fact that little old ladies (god love em) tend to jump out of nowhere and have you screeching to a stop so that they can have a peak at the twins. I have invested in a sunscreen/shade ( old meanie) for the pram so the old dears are not sure what is hidden in the pram so my shopping forays (when I get organised) are a lot faster than they used to be.

Well that is a little insight into the shore family funhouse and like I said I am looking forward to the opportunity of meeting people who understand where I am coming from.

By the way it has taken me 6 hours to do this message, is this normal?

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jacqui and my husband Steve and I have 3 boy's.
Tommy is 4 1/2 years and our twins Charlie & Nick are 6 months. So
far
things have been pretty good, Nick now say's Baba and has said Mum a
few times while Charlie is still trying hard but to no avail. Charlie

rolls over to his back while Nick can rolled both ways. They love
being
on the floor to look and play around and at the moment everything
goes
straight to the mouth.
Tommy loves being a big brother and enjoy's helping me feed the boy's
and making them laugh.
I enjoy going to the meeting's and being able to talk to the other
mother's who are going through or have already been through the same
as myself and to get any tips/help when needed.

Mel, I cant offer any advice on the breastfeeding side of things as
my twins are bottle fed but hang in there my friend, as bottle
feeding is no easier, there is washing them, sterlising them, making
them up and times that by two of course. Some days it feels like
all I do is wash and sterlise bottles, although now they are
71/2mths they are now only having 4 bottles a day (each that is, so
thats still 8 bottles a day)..

The whole solid thing can be very daunting at first but I can say it
does get easier, well it did for me anyway. Tali & Summer love their
breakie & lunch and its all over with minimum fuss now they have
worked out what its all about. Mind you now I am facing the issue of
them wanting to hold the spoon, Summer is even trying to put on a
little tantrum to get her own way!!!Dinner can be a little more
difficult as by the end of the day everyone is getting tired so what
normally works for me is we have dinner first, a bath, then our
bottle and we are in bed at 7pm....

People keep telling me (people without multiples of course) that it
gets easier, I cant see it yet, although I am proud to say I mowed
the lawn today for the 1st time in about 16months!!!! Quite proud of
myself & cant wait to see what my hubby has to say about that.

Anyway Mel, you have to do what you feel is best for you, but if you
ever need to have a chat give me a call..

Until next time..

Hi Melinda

My twins are 15mths and still continue to make a huge mess after
each meal. The same as you, you feel like you have just cleaned up
after one meal and then you are preparing for the next (I am so sick
of scrubbing food out of the high chairs and I am sure we should
just get a shovel to clean the food off the floor!) They want to
feed themselves and food goes everywhere but there mouths. Someone
told me to buy the cheap plastic shower curtains and put under the
high chairs but as yet I haven't remembered when out to buy them.

They are still demand breastfed one reason I didn't want the hassel
of bottles they were drinking out of a cup most probably around 5-
6mths only water. I also only use disposable nappies and my
reasoning was that I wouldn't have to pay for formula as well.

Bottle or breast have good and not so good for both, you really need
to do what works for you and what you are prepared to do. I am
prepared to leave everything else if I have to and just breastfeed
if they want to, but that doesn't suit everyone. I have continued
to but it is physically and emotionally demanding esp as one doesn't
go all night and usually both will wake during the night for a feed
and the well meaning comments of just give them a bottle it would be
easier.

Sorry I don't feel I helped much, just do what you feel is best for
you at the time and don't feel pressured by anyone else. Every baby
is different and every situation is different just have the
confidence to do what works for you and stick by it.

If you have any more questions esp on breastfeeding (as I have found
it really hard to get advice on this for twins) or anything else
happy to let you know what I did to try and get thru it and out the
other side.

Good Luck
Kim

Hi everyone!

Sorry to bother you all with more questions but I am facing a new
challenge some of you may be able to help me with.

Now my twins are 5 1/2 months old and we've just started having
(well playing with mostly) some rice cereal once a day. Starting
this has opened my eyes up to a new dilema we may face. I don't
twin feed for a few reasons (don't need to go on with specifics
here) so feeding can take anywhere from 40 mins on a good day to 1
1/2 hours on a bad day. When you add having to pop two kiddies into
chairs and play around with food, then clean them up, put them to
bed, clean kitchen floor etc up, x 3 times a day and add a bath in
there somewhere I'm wondering where's the time to have a life?? So
I'm considering having bottles of formula (to replace the
breastfeed) at the same time while they're in their chairs and then
solids. This should considerably cut down the time needed and then
I won't be trying to feed tired grizzly bubs who then take forever
to settle to sleep afterwards. So I'm thinking I might bottle feed
3 times a day with solids and breastfeed at the other times (prob
early morning and before bed). I had always aimed at breastfeeding
for 12 months but I can't see any other way of doing it.

Does anyone have any experiences or advice they can share??

Thanks,

I'm looking forward to the next one and hope to be there!!

By the way - great job you're doing with the newsletter!!

hi everyone! My rocking problem (which is not so bad now) wasnt just a
bouncer/rocker problem..it was well meaning family members holding and
hand rocking them to sleep. they r now learning to do it themselves in
the cot (yay). Tia & Lexi r now 18 weeks. time has flown. I'm still
trying to work out how to coordinate sleeps around taking Izaac & Lewis
to school and picking them up again. we walk there so I try to get the
girls to sleep in the pram if its close to school times, but sometimes
i think tey'll wake up with plenty of time to spare and they deceide to
have a big sleep, so then I move them from the cot to the pram (not
always a success) and often end up making a grand entrance to school
with at least one screaming baby! dont u love those looks u
get...anyway got to go plenty to do. Corrine

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well in the world of twins (or those who need a medal for having more than two at the same time), since being at tressillian my beautiful babies are now 14weeks old and sleeping wonderfully through the day and night.
With all the sleep they now get they are an absolute pleasure to be around when they are awake and are happily smiling and trying to laugh.  Lachlan suffered from bad reflux in the early days and was still having a few set backs now and again, but after eight weeks of visiting the chiropractor he now holds his adjustments and hence reflux has gone (or at least very very mild on the days he eats too much).

Oh my god now with all of the things twins need at this early age my two year old son now believes it is time for toilet training. So no sooner do I sit between the twins for feed time get the bottle in their mouth - and all of a sudden MUM MUM I have to POOH!!!!!!  Any hints on making this job easier other than buying alot of disinfectant.

Don't I sound so happy and relaxed and not sleep deprived - well the secret my husband has been on holidays for four weeks - next week may be a different type of email.
take care of those babies..........
see you

Have just got a new computer and thought I would try and keep in
touch with the outside world by trying to work my way around this
technology, especially when my older children are not here to help
me! We have only had it about a month and it is my first time on it
today - as you all know it's hard to find time with two especially
when they don't co-ordinate sleeps. I have been a member of NMBC
for 2years and went along to one of the expectancy programs but
found that travelling up was difficult, I know that you now have a
CC group meeting but haven't been able to make it yet.

Our twins Harmony and Harrison are now 15mths old and as a (I was
going to say "older" but don't like that word), second time around
mum I am really enjoying the experience, maybe because I am alot
more relaxed about things, but saying that it is a struggle at times
trying to work out what is the right way to go about things with two!

Any advice on what to do when they starting to fight over toys?
Harrison is a real boy who just barges in to take whatever he wants
and Harmony has been just sitting there while he does it, but has
just discovered that when they are having a tug of war over a toy if
she bites him he will let go. I feel that I shouldn't get upset
with her as it is her only line of defence but at the same time I
don't want her to keep biteing. I have been trying to ignore it and
it doesn't happen all the time but what do you do with twins when
one is more dominant than the other, maybe at this age I should just
keep distracting them onto other things when they start.

I look forward to bouncing questions off you all as I am finding
every day brings a new challenge even for an experienced Mum. I
would just love some more sleep! The other night I had 7hrs
straight sleep since they were born and daylight savings they are
now up at 5am. But all that aside we have two beautiful healthy
babies and that's all that matters (I can always catch up on sleep
in maybe 10yrs time!)

Everyone take care
Thanks for letting me rave on

Hi all - Jen Lissarrague here.

I'm mum to fraternal twins Noah & Jazmin who'll be 3 in January (good grief). My life as a twin mum so far has included breastfeeding for 22months, travelling for 3 months in Europe, two house moves, and facing the PND demon.  I'm happy to share my experiences and tips in all of the above, and am happy to be emailed privately if you prefer.

The fourth member of our family is my husband Nick.  Nick has been an absolute brick and is a wonderful dad.  Not sure how I got so lucky, but I aint sending him back!  If anybody is after a commemorative tattoo, Nick works at Tribal Urge and offers a discount to NMBC members!

I have been involved with NMBC since I was pregnant. I've served time on the board, so to speak, as Social Co-ordinator, Programs Co-ordinator, Newslettr Editor and also coffee morning co-ordinator.  I am still involved with the club as AMBA Liason and 2nd Vice President (just cause it sounds impressive!!).  I attended the AMBA National Convention in Hobart last year as our Club Delegate and have many tales and things to tell about the crazy time there.  (save your pennies for next year's in Melbourne!).

I'm currently in my 3rd year of a Bachelor of Psycholgy and earlier this year, I set up a web-based business called "Twinsane".  Tonight I'm returning to bellydance classes in an attempt to shimmy away my twin belly (or maybe it's a food/beer belly!?).

So that's me...not necessarily in a nutshell...but a brief intro.

Look forward to meeting more multiple parents and sharing adventures.

Toodles

Its Trish back again, I was just putting the newsletter together (you
should all receive next week) and noticed that the next Club
Gathering
has a lady from "Sleep & Settle" talking about sleeping techniques
aimed at 0-12mths olds. Might be interesting for all us mums with
littlies to see what advice she can offer us... I will be there and
hope to meet some of you there as well.

Hi All, thanks for the rolling advice. Maree, I will have taken what
you recommended seriously- nothing in the cot, as Tali last night
got caught in her blanket and couldnt get her arm out and her leg
also sticking out.... I guess we just have to grin and bear it...
And wait for the next stage.

I have to share with you all, as I am very proud and excited, Summer
learnt to wave goodbye on the weekend, as we had a family BBQ and
everyone was leaving.... She decided to just wave her little hand
back at everyone.... Of course the poor girl, we keep saying to her
now bye bye just to see the cute wave.

must go crying babies..

chat to you all soon.

Hi Trish,

I have 4 year old girl/ boy twins. I can distinctly remember my daughter, Emily at 7 months being the wrong way in her cot and sleeping on her tummy but she used to turn her head to one  side. I sought all kinds of advice and mostly people suggested that no pillow , sheets , blankets or doonas so all I did with Emily was dress her warmly and she slept on a bottom sheet only. We used to sometimes find her asleep with her legs or arms dangling out of the cot.

I truly understand about the sleep deprivation but it does get better.

All the best

Hi all,

Just introducing myself & my family to you. I'm Trish and my husband
Nigel have identical twin daughters Tali & Summer who are now 7
months old and keeping me on my toes... I dont know where the time
goes, as it feels like yesterday we were bringing them home....
Although I must say it feels like this sleep deprivation has been
with me forever....

My girls are still waking at 4am for a feed, I am sure they do not
need this, and its merely a comfort thing,of having a nice full warm
belly to get them thru till the morn... But being 4am I have been a
little lazy and just get up & feed & pop back to bed.... I really
would like to get them out of this feed. Any ideas anyone on where
to start???? Mind you I too, like another member Mel, am having
trouble with little Tali rolling all over her cot, just today I went
in and she was upside down ( her head where her feet should have
been).I am not sure on how I can stop her and how to avoid Summer
learning the same thing....

Hi everyone!

It's great to see that there are lots of new members and some good
discussions starting!

Corrine, I too am a victim of rockers! When our two were about 1
month old we started sleeping them in rockers because the elevation
seemed to help their wind and a little rock in the night when you're
really tired is far too hard to resist. I was very worried about
putting them into cots after this because I didn't know what I'd do
in the night. We were very very lucky in that they both adjusted
immediately to their cots and a little pat or stroke (plus a dummy)
often worked. We still use rockers from time to time, in fact
tonight my daughter went straight to sleep in her cot but my son
started screaming when put to bed and he started to wake her. So he
was put in a rocker in the loungeroom until he settled (no rocking
and no eye contact) then transferred back to his room. I know this
is probably wrong but when you've had a hard day and one is asleep
you'll do anything to stop from having two awake! Also now that
they have had experience in sleeping in rockers, we can take them
when we go visiting and the bubs sleep in them no probs. Good luck
with your rocking situation!

Hi Trish! Hope your shopping trip the other week was a success (we
bumped into each other in Big W!). I bought a set of wedges to try
for my Roly Poly daughter (that's what we call her). First night
she managed to beat them twice, but now more often than not they
seem to keep her on her back. She can still manage to get on her
tummy but mostly she stays on her back between the wedges and we now
have less restless/waking periods in the night. Might be worth a
try? She was in a portacot (softer sides than a cot since she kept
bumping into them) but now she's back into her cot and no probs so
far. My poor babies - they've shared a twin cot (like the ones in
hopsital), been in rockers, in their own cots and even slept in
portacots throughout the house. We're very lucky that they are so
easy to adjust to new sleeping situations!

I've writtten too much...oh one more thing - my twins turn 5 months
tomorrow!! Yipppeee! Like Trish - where did the time go and oh yes
sleep deprivation seems like a way of life now!

Bye!

Mel

Hi Corrine
How are the babies going? It did all the rocking to sleep with my
first child and swore it wouldn't hapen agin with the triplets. There
were days when I would do it just to get them to sleep to get a break!!
I ended up using dummies instaed of rocking but they were three by the
time I could get rid of them. How do you manage to get your older kids
to school with the twins. I can't imagine how you manage your
mornings. You must be amazing

Hi Danielle
I'm glad you got in to Tresillion when you needed it. Its amazing
how a break can help you. Are things still going well now you are
home? I know what you are going through but I must admit the
memories are now warm and fuzzy then the reality of just how hard it
was in the early days.
Enjoy them while they are little!!!
See you
Liz

Hi Mel
Its great to hear from you!! I'm so glad you are enjoying getting to
the coffe mornings. I hope this forum can also give you hints and
tips for your little babies. My girls are nearly 4 now so its a
lifetime ago they were babies. Mine never rolled as early as your
little girl but I had them wrapped at sleeptime for a long time so
they couldn't move if they tried. I hope for your sake she gets
tired of doing it at night so you can get some sleep. You can get
the soft wedges which sometimes helps stop them rolling. Have you
tried them at all?? Sounds like you are doing a great job.
