Yawn, stretch, it is 9.30, so the brain is a little sleepy, but here goes. I too am unsure as to whether including commercial enterprise will compromise the event or not. I feel, that if they are niche (insert small/locally owned, not franchises) like Gifts for the Geek, then it should be cool.
We should encourage all the geeks we know to do a spring clean of their collectables to bring along for swapping/selling because this is usually way more interesting than ploughing through whatever shops can offer. After all, if we want stuff from Minotaur, we can hop on the train to Melbourne for that, unless they bring their seconds, end of run, that sort of thing so you feel you are getting a bargain. All these thoughts are random, just put out there for brain food.
I personally like the pre Christmas idea, but then I have many geeks on my shopping list.
I have no problem with the Guide Hall, esp if it is cheap. I know of a few other cheap places, but they either have sucky parking, are hard to find, are too small, or numerous other negative aspects.
If we play it right, we may even manage some advertising in the local papers, but I will need plenty of notice to meet deadlines. (I am of course referring to free advertising. I never pay for anything if I can help it.)
You can count on me for support, just keep the thoughts flowing and see where we end up.
That's way too much for my tired brain, besides, the boss is looking askance at me, so I'll bid thee all farewell

Subject: [GeelongSFClub] Swap Meet
Right, I have some info, some ideas - so let's see where we can go
from here.
Our best venue possibility is the Girl Guides hall - because it is
big enough, comparitively cheap enough, and Gifts for the Geek can
sponsor us by allowing us to use their Public Liability Insurance
there.
Darren ath Gifts for the Geek, who many of you should know as a great
and wonderful human being, has been helping me with the ideas for
this (obviously)
He has a number of commercial-type contacts that we can get to come
down to have a proper event organised. This could be a good thing or
a not-so good thing, which is where I'd like some opinions as the
original idea started with stuff found in the bottoms of sheds (no
matter how many sheds you may have).
I'm thinking if we do make it the bigger idea - some shops, and
invitiations to indiviuals to book a table - then we probably go with
early December - allows time for organisations, advertising and
convenient for Christmas.
