Ad the movie we will be seeing is: Journey to the Centre of the Earth!

So that makes it this Thursday at Village at 2:15pm.
We'll meet up at or outside of Gifts for the Geek beforehand - I'll be there from 1:30 (I'm sure the arcade at least will be open this time).
We can retire to somewhere for coffee & chatter afterwards for those that have time.

See you there!

Hiya Ben,
Sorry to not use the link, but am at work, and haven't got the time to figure out what I'm doing wrong when I get there, that won't allow me to reply. So, I'll reply here...
Much as I'd love to come to the pix, esp to see any of the mentioned films, but I am already spoken for on Thursday. Boo, hoo.
As for the Friday night fiasco, ... I was considering canvassing the Emos, mall rats and other flotsam of the Mall, to see if any of them wanted to hang instead, but gave up on that idea as being very BAD.  Better luck next time. I saw the humour in it though.

Firstly, apologies to all those who attended SFFiG Meet on Friday, or at least attempted to - as Centrepont was locked up shortly after 5pm. I've had a few messages from people who came along to be hurried out again by security guards. We won't be doing that at that time of day again :-)

So, to make up for this we're organising a last minute get together - a Movie at Village and coffee afterwards this Thursday around about midday.
I'd like to get a quick show of hands as to which movie we'll be seeing , jump on to our forums at http://z10.invisionfree.com/SFFiG/index.php?showtopic=51&st=0
Current suggestions are:
* Journey to the Centre of the Earth
* Space Chimps
* Wall E
We'll decide on a movie and announce times by Tuesday evening.

In 2007 staff from various schools within the Faculty of Health,

in the Alcoa Australian Corporate Head of the River Event (a rowing
race to raise money for United Way). We are again entering a crew in
the 2008 competition to be held on Saturday 13th October, 2008. The
crew includes 8 staff members from Psychology in Geelong.

To raise money for the entry fee for this event we are holding a
Trivia Night on Friday 5th of September, 2008, 7.30pm at the
Waterfront Cafe at Deakin. This evening promises to be highly
entertaining. A similar event was held last year and we had a great
turnout from both staff and students. To purchase a ticket or for
further information please contact Emma Gould
(emma.gould@deakin. edu.au, phone 5227 8492).

The event is BYO nibbles & drinks at bar prices.

Hope to see you all there,

Hi Lucy, sounds like fun, but unfortunately I work Friday nights so I'm not able to make it.
For others' reference though - how much does it cost?

Hi guys,
Much as I'd love to be there, I am on hospital duty Mondays after work. My dad is near his end, and we take round the clock (not overnight though) shifts, so I will have to miss this. I just seem to have lousy timing at the moment for all your hard work to put things on for us.
Ciao

Don't forget that this coming Monday (18th August) there is a private screening of the new animated Clone Wars movie being hosted by The Shop: Gifts For the Geek, but also before that you have the chance to meet Matt Doran from Attack of the Clones (the Deathstick Dealer) and Matrix (Mouse)!

Matt will be in The Shop from 4-6pm on Monday signing autographs and then will be doing a talk before the movie at 6:30.
Tickets are available from The Shop: Gifts for the Geek (Centrepoint Arcade) for $30 - this includes an autograph as well as the movie.
I'll see you there!

Here comes the the biggest SFFiG announcement this century:
We are now opening official memberships for the club, this will mean you are able to pay an annual fee, which then entitles you to cheaper entry to all club events and our upcoming bimonthly newsletter delivered to you in the post. Also you will glow internally with the power of SFFiG.*
How do you sign up?
You can sign up on Saturday at our meeting and what's more for a once off birthday special anyone that pays their registration this Saturday does not have to pay entrance fee that day.
After that we will be setting up ways and means of signing up and paying
Prices are $20 for a standard membership and $30 for a family.
If you're not ready to sign up yet that's fine. For future events there will be member and non-member entry prices and you can sign up at any time you are ready.

So I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday at the Girl Guides hall from 2pm (entry FREE for members, non-members $3)
Like last time we will be running celebrity heads, blankety blanks and werewolf, this time we're also testing out an experimental new game: Reverse Celebrity Heads! And of course, Much More.

Happy Birthday SFFiG for August 2nd!

thanks, but I must say that we couldn't have got this far without the help of Mark and Andrew, and the encouragement of many others! Of course I'd also like to thank Cloister, may he guide us to Fuschal and we shall all eat donuts.

SFFiG is preparing to take a bold new step in the history of SFFiG.

We are about to become a registered club, followed by opening a bank account and beginning proper a memberships system.

What does this mean for the club? Well for an annual fee you can attend club events at special member rates, have the upcoming SFFiG newsletter posted to your own letter boxes (remember them?) and be entitled to promotional deals we are currently working on with local businesses! Also we have already organised with the Doctor Who Club of Victoria for reciprocal memberships - where our members can attend their meetings at their member rates and vice versa.

What more could you want? A baby Rancor? No.

More announcements coming your way as soon as they are announceable!

~Ben
