Yes, today (Sunday 23rd November) is the 45th anniversary of the first broadcast of Doctor Who!
I can't say that I was there when it aired, but I am proud to say the first episode I ever saw of Doctor Who was series 1, episode 1: An Unearthly Child with Susan, Ian, Barbara and of course William Hartnell as The Doctor.
So to celebrate this day, we are going to be hosting - along with the Doctor Who Club of Victoria - Doctor Who 45th Anniversary +6 Days!
There will be videos, games, trivia, as well as a variety of Doctor Who paraphernalia to purchase! There will also be a door prize, trivia prizes and a raffle.
The vitals:
When: Saturday 29th November, 1pm - 5pm
Where: Girl Guides Hall, 33 Myers St Geelong
Cost: $5 for members of SFFiG or DWCV $8 non-members.
Don't forget if you're not already a member of either club you are welcome to sign up on the day.
To celebrate the 45th anniversary (+6 days) since Doctor Who first aired, we're having a joint event with the Doctor Who Club of Victoria here in Geelong on the 29th of November from 1pm until about 5pm.
There will be trivia, games, videos, shopping and of course, prizes!
Entry $5 for members of SFFiG or the DWCV, $8 for non members.
Don't forget if you haven't yet signed up for SFFiG you can do so on the day - $20 single, $30 family. We are hoping to have our first newsletter out soon and membership cards are now available for pick up on the day for those that have already bought theirs.
You will also be able to sign up for membership to the Doctor Who Club of Victoria on the day if you want to, just see Judith for the details.

I was considering canvassing the Emos, mall rats and other flotsam of the Mall, to see if any of them wanted to hang instead, but gave up on that idea as being very BAD. Better luck next time. We are again entering a crew in the 2008 competition to be held on Saturday 13th October, 2008. The crew includes 8 staff members from Psychology in Geelong.
To raise money for the entry fee for this event we are holding a Trivia Night on Friday 5th of September, 2008, 7.30pm at the Waterfront Cafe at Deakin. This evening promises to be highly entertaining. A similar event was held last year and we had a great turnout from both staff and students. To purchase a ticket or for further information please contact Emma Gould (emma.gould@deakin. edu.au, phone 5227 8492).

We are now opening official memberships for the club, this will mean you are able to pay an annual fee, which then entitles you to cheaper entry to all club events and our upcoming bimonthly newsletter delivered to you in the post. Also you will glow internally with the power of SFFiG.*
How do you sign up?
You can sign up on Saturday at our meeting and what's more for a once off birthday special anyone that pays their registration this Saturday does not have to pay entrance fee that day.
After that we will be setting up ways and means of signing up and paying
Prices are $20 for a standard membership and $30 for a family.
If you're not ready to sign up yet that's fine. For future events there will be member and non-member entry prices and you can sign up at any time you are ready.

... I was considering canvassing the Emos, mall rats and other flotsam of the Mall, to see if any of them wanted to hang instead, but gave up on that idea as being very BAD. Better luck next time. I saw the humour in it though.
