Polish geologist visits Swinburne
A Polish geologist will be a guest speaker at a free public talk
hosted by Swinburne's School of Engineering and Science next week.
Marek Tomalik, a geologist and journalist based in Poland, is
tracing Polish-born Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki's exploration of
Australia in 1839-1843, and will speak about Strzelecki's life
and
place in Australian history.
Adam Krezel, from Swinburne's Faculty of Engineering and
Industrial
Sciences, said the Faculty is very excited to be welcoming Marek
Tomalik to speak about Srzelecki's contribution to Australian
history.
"Srzelecki was one of the first key communicators to Europeans
about
Australia, and particularly about indigenous Australians, and we
hope many people will take the opportunity to come along and hear
more about Srzelecki's important place in our history," Adam
said.
Marek's visit is part of the Strzelecki Traces Expedition, and is
sponsored by the Australian Embassy in Poland and SBS Radio. The
seminar will be followed by light refreshments and discussion with
members of the Strzelecki Traces Expedition.
The seminar will take place from 3.30 to 5.30pm next Monday 11
October. Adam will speak from 3.30pm and Marek will speak at 4.30pm.
The seminar will be held at the Swinburne Conference Centre in
Serpells Lane, room EW101, on the south side of Glenferrie Station.
