Translations... a procedural clarification   Message List

Hi,

I thank group members for being so helpful to English speakers who
need to translate documents.

However it is not necessary to post the translated document to the
entire group.

If you reply to STIPP it goes to everyone. Please reply directly to
the person who put the query (their e-mail is at the top of the
message)... and notify the group that you have translated it.

To the people requiring translations... the procedure should be
1) Try the automated translator (found on the links page)
2) Ask members if they will translate (indicate rough size of
document)... and post the full text of the message just to those who
respond.
3) Keep future correspondence private (e-mail direct to the
respondent) and send a small note to the group notifying us when the
translation has been completed successfully.

Only one notification that the document has been translated is
necessary. A notification by either the original requestor or the
translator would be sufficient. This would keep uninteresting traffic
to a minimum.

If we get too many requests for translation we'll have to see about
an alternative strategy. However the subject of translation is
related to Polish professionals and the promotion of Poland so lets
consider it "on topic" for the time being.

Can those IT aware group members please be patient with the less IT
aware. It takes a little while for people to get the hang of using an
egroup and till then they will make procedural errors. We will get
inappropriate posts for some time until the group size stabilises and
all new members work out how to use the group. If you want to
minimise the number of daily messages you can turn on the digest
option. The digest option condenses the days e-mails into one e-mail.
Thus even if some of it is off-topic you'll only get one message
daily. The Digest option is found under the Account settings (top
right hand side of the page).

The group size is currently 25 and given our current STIPP membership
we can expect 50-100 before it stops growing rapidly.

Nb. It's interesting that English speakers have found the group so
fast. It has not yet been advertised in the press. Only a very small
number of members know about it. It's only been in existence about 2
months and a search in Google doesn't find it yet. Google takes 1-3
months to index a site and I don't think Yahoo sites are easy for it
to index anyway.

:-)
PS. If anyone wants the services of a professional translator those
can be arranged.
PPS. Suggestions and other things can be posted direct to the
moderator (me) if they are not of particular interest to the other
members.
