I am looking for a picture of Optimus, or any of the

fighting pose to use for something I am making for my

feel I have to talk your heads off. I am going to start giving my
reveiws of Transformers toys. I got one just today and I am loving
him!
> Its Backgild, the powered up and re-formatted versions of
> Backpack/Scattorshot.
>
He is a Voyager size, larger that Exigeyser (powered up version of
HotShot) which is deluxe sized. Scattorshot has come a long way. He
is awesome. His colors are the same as the smaller Scattorshot, a
vivid blue with silver sides, grey missle launchers with copper
missle
rack.
>
In vehicle mode the base is very flat and compact with the misle
launchers sticking up about 2 inches from the top of the main body.
The whole missle turret is rotatable a full 360 degrees, and can
point almost straight up, but it doesn't look good like that. He has
2 Mini-con ports on each side of the vehicle mode. His rifle fits
onto one of them for storage.
>
> The Cyber Planet key unlocks the weapons in both modes and the
turret remains fully rotatable. The detail is great too cuz I noticed
the barrel of the large gun is bored out and rifled (ridges inside
the barrel). The cowscoop on the front can be displayed in low,
middle or high position and looks good in any of the three.
>
> Transforming him is one of the easiest of all on a Transformer this
size. You just grasp the rear of the tank treads from the back,
rotate and lock them onto pegs at the front of the vehicle and spread
the cowscoops to become his feet. Separate the missle turret and
bring
forward to form the arms and flip out the hands. And last just flip
up his head, thats it!
>
> When you insert the Cyber key into the right arm it extends the
large rifle arm but you have to slide the whole launcher forward to
get the peg to fit in his fist hole, the left arm peg automatically
goes into his fist. The head is quite alot like Scattorshots head but
with a clear yellow visor over his eyes and the two "spotlights?" are
also clear yellow. All in all he looks like he can kick some
tailgate.
The colors are great and he is nice and heavy. He looks like he could
use some toenail clippers in robot mode however. In short I LOVE THIS
FIGURE!! I hate to think how Hasbro is going to mess it up though.
At least I got the Japanese version and will do so for the remainder
of the Galaxy Force line. If Kath has anything to add that I forgot
please do so, I know that you said you have the Japanese figures.
Hopefully you feel the same about this one that I do. Next figures
I get will be First Gunner and Sonic Bomber.
Any requests for a reveiw of any more figures? Just let me know.

Heres the review with pics!

showtopic=76&st=0&

> Hi ya'll. I haven't been seeing many review posts on here so I
feel I have to talk your heads off.
>
>
>
>
>

For your pleasure those who have the new comic and might be wodering
were it is headed
read on

Chris Ryall is one of the hardest working people in the comics
industry. One of the powers that be over at IDW, Chris last week was
also named publisher for that line.

IDW has become one of the most successful of comics publishers in
the industry because of their ability to acquire the licensing
rights to hot properties in other media, and publish comics based on
those properties. Be it CSI. The Shield or 24, IDW has scored big
with the fans of those series. Recently IDW acquired the license to
one of the most sought after Toy/Science Fiction Franchise, The
Transformers. Unless you've been off world for the last twenty
years, you know who the Transformers are. The Transformers comic is
due to launch any day now. Soon after that IDW will be unleashing
the next round of robot madness, Beast Wars. Again this is Robot
Mayhem at with all the stops pulled out.

Comic News International (CNI) managed to catch up with Chris Ryall
(CR) and Simon Furman (SF) to ask them a few questions about IDW,
Transformers and the new Beast Wars comic.

CNI: Why do you think that the Transformers have been such a long
running franchise? What makes them unique over all the other
transforming robot properties that are out there?

CR: Are there other transforming robot properties out there? Huh. I
guess I only pay attention to the originals.

To me, the idea of giant robots from outer space that can transform
into Earth-bound vehicles and operate amongst us "in disguise" is
something that's never felt dated. Seems to me if the concept is
handled properly, it'll always be very viable. The idea of giant
robots has always been one filled with a sense of wonder, and that's
what we're trying to return to the Transformers comics, a sense of
wonder an awe beyond just big robot-on-robot battles (of course,
we'll have those, too).

CNI: What are your long-range plans for Transformers? And how has
fan support been for the project?

CR: Fan support has been great, so far (although the #0 is still
over a week away from being released wide). And they've certainly
been the most vocal fans we've ever seen with any of our projects.

Months before we officially signed to do the comics, we spent a lot
of time on the various Transformers message boards, just taking in
all the comments about what has worked in the past, what didn't, and
what fans would like to see, if the comics ever returned. The fans
are certainly opinionated, and everyone seems to have different
things they wanted to see. We had our direction in mind already, and
from the majority of the complaints we saw of past handlings of the
Transformers, I think we're pretty well poised to please a lot of
people.

CNI: IDW does a great job with franchising other media and turning
them into Comic Books, i.e. The Shield, 24, CSI, etc. Why do you
think you've been so successful doing this, while in the past other
companies have tried to do this, and have had limited success (like
the old Dell comics)?

CR: I think Dell comics are very much a product of the past, but at
the time, they were a huge success, at least to my young eyes. I
remember loving these old Star Trek reprints—the characters only
faintly resembled the cast of the show, but there was something
great about them. Like, "it's a TV show… only in comic form!" I felt
the same way about the early Marvel Star Wars comics, despite the
appearance of giant rabbits and other nonsensical characters that
had no tie to the movies.

My point being, I'd say that most all of these media tie-ins have
had varying degrees of success, depending on who you ask. Other
people HATED those Trek or Star Wars comics. Other people might hate
our Transformers comics. But we certainly have made an effort to
only take on licensed properties that we have an affinity for. I'm
sure that's part of the reason why some of our books have worked for
a lot of people, because they're more than just a job to us, you
know? I only tackled writing Shaun of the Dead and Land of the Dead
because I loved Shaun, and I'm a huge Romero fan. I'd like to think
that caring about the projects you're working on translates well to
the finished product.

CNI: You teased a few weeks ago about a weekly Transformers event in
2006, want to tease it some more?

CR: I said what? Man, I talk too much

CNI: What made you decide to pursue the Beast Wars comic as one of
the series you wanted to develop?

SF: Mostly because I really enjoyed the original TV series
(regardless of being versed in all things TF). I think it was just a
terrific slice of sci-fi entertainment (pitched well at a wide age-
range), with great stories (and some not so great, but hey, that's
the way it goes) and (at the time) revolutionary CG-animation. Also
because I wrote the final episode of the TV show, 'Nemesis' pt2, and
that just left me wanting to write more.

CNI: Tell us about the Beast Wars comic back story, where does the
comics story occur and who can we expect to see leading the charge?

SF: 'The Gathering', as the series is sub-titled, occurs within
season 3 of the TV show. The most direct references crop up in issue
#3, which is laced into the events in an episode titled 'Changing of
the Guard.' For reasons that will become apparent in the comic
series, the TV cast remain (largely) unaware of the new arrivals on
prehistoric Earth, among whom (most prominently) are Predacon
general Magmatron and Maximal deep cover agent Razorbeast. But a
whole host more BW toy characters (who never made it into the TV
show) will also feature, some more prominently than others
admittedly.

CNI: Will this be a single continuous story that is wrapped up at
the end or something else?

SF: It is a self-contained story, with its own internal resolution,
but the end of issue #4 is not the end. 'The Gathering', as well as
telling its own story, sets up a BW strand that (I hope) will be
picked up again (and again!) in the future.

CNI: How will this story be different from the cartoon series?

SF: For a start, budget is not an issue (as it was with the TV
show). So, we can do really full-on, widescreen action and expand
the story to take in ongoing events and back story on Cybertron (and
so forth). We're also turning the focus on the new cast, with
established (TV show) characters taking more of a back seat.

CNI: Are there plans to incorporate any of sub-plots or other story
references from the cartoon into the comic?

SF: Definitely. The appearance (and downfall) of Predacon (and
former Decepticon) agent Ravage (in the classic 'Agenda' three-
parter) is key to the series.

CNI: It looks like from the preview images that the story takes
place during the Transmetal era (2nd season). Will we see the bots
in their subsequent more-evolved forms?

SF: It's actually season 3, but early enough in season 3 that the TV
show characters are largely in their Transmetal (rather than
Transmetal II) incarnations. There's a mix of everything in 'The
Gathering', Fuzors, Transmetals, Mutants...

CNI: There were many toy characters that never surfaced in the show
such as many of the furors, Scavenger, Polar Claw or others. Will we
see any of them?

SF: All of them, I think. My script consultant Ben Yee (of bwtf.com)
has scoured the toy catalogues to get me as complete a list as
possible (the only caveat being that they had some kind of US
release). I needed as many (new) characters as I could get. You'll
see why in issue #1.

CNI: We're really happy to see Don Figueroa is back on the TF
comics. What prompted you to bring him in for the Beast Wars comic?
Why not G1 or the other series you have planned?

SF: I'd seen some of the stuff Don did for the (aborted) Dreamwave
BW series and it was just SO gorgeous. I knew, if we could somehow
get him, we had to have Don do the IDW series. He was always my
first choice for BW, and the stuff I've seen so far has just
exceeded even my high expectations. Prepare to be wowed!

CNI: What do you think about the fans reactions to Transformers
taking on beast forms?

SF: Somehow it never seemed quite right in G1, though ‹ as time went
on ‹ I guess a lot of people, myself included, got used to it. But
in BW, well, that's what BW is all about. Once the series proved
itself, I think a lot of beast mode misgivings went out the window.

CNI: Like in the cartoon, will we see any time travel or other
characters from other time-spaces in the series?

SF: There is time travel in 'The Gathering', but I'm keen not to
overuse it. Because it's Earth's prehistory (juxtaposed against
Cybertron's future) I guess that's inevitable.

CNI: What about the Vok, will we learn more about the mysterious
entity?

SF: For now at least I'm leaving the Vok well alone. Maybe down the
line.

CNI: Are there any special details you can give us or maybe a hint
or two about the new Beast Wars comic?

SF: Well... I've been criticized in the past for overusing (G1)
Grimlock, and I'm about to risk the same criticism in BW. I was
delighted to find out that the BW Grimlock is actually the G1
character in a new body. Actually, he doesn't turn up until the end
of issue #3, so hang fire on that Internet 'flaming.' Oh, and
Ravage, did I mention Ravage?

CNI: Is there any plans for IDW to do the Beast Machines or another
Transformers series that has not been done in comic form yet?

SF: I'm sure IDW has a whole heap of plans for Transformers. I just
don't know what they are. My hope is, we do a bunch more BW stories
before we have to 'evolve' it into Beast Machines.

CNI: Lastly, are you Maximal or Predicon?

SF: Predacon. Grr!

The Lion and Robot modes are fairly straight forward, as they
usually are. The proportions on the legs are quite a bit off for no
obvious reason but overall they both look and work excellent.

Now, the combined Arm mode...sigh. Don't get me wrong, I love me
some combiners. If done fairly well they could be the greatest toys
ever. But they so rarely are. (When I fist saw the name SuperLink I
was really stoked that the whole crew would be arms and legs for
Prime, Ultra and maybe Skyfire or something...nope. But I digress)

This character is about half the size of the figure it's becomming
the arm of and includes a sound feature with 2 AAA batteries. I
understand it's supposed to be a power up but there are going to be
gravity and ballance issues. I was very impressed that they tried to
build in a sliding system for the shoulder attachment to shift the
plug side to side. This way, you can use it on either shoulder, just
like in show, and push the arm foreword so it interferes with the
wings as little as possible. The problem is the Lion's shoulders are
(again) out of proportion for no obvious reason and you just can't
get it all the way out from the wings. Mobility is very limited.

My other problem is that it doesn't really become anything. In the
cartoon, it looks like the ripped off arm/leg bits slide in to
connect and form a solid forearm, they don't. And even if they did,
it would still not resemble anything remotely like an arm. At best
it's a giant lion flavored club attached to Prime's shoulder. I
didn't really expect them to duplicate the show's glowing hand
module from nowhere trick but it just doesn't make a lot of sense as
it is now.

All in all, very good, just wierd. Anxiously awaiting his next
upgrade. Now THAT looks cool.

No problem at all. And I'm sure they will beef it up a bit. I've
just never been real big on the "big scary moster movie where you
NEVER get to actually see the monster" type of deal. I believe they
were trying to build up the lurking in the background aspect.

From what I have seen of the artwork, once the bots actually show
up, they are gonna rock.

Well its about time you must have blaster if you have soundwave or
soundblaster but we could be wrong and hobby link has surprised us
before
Hobby Link Japan has updated with a preorder for a TFC #21 Broadcast
at a price of 4275 yen (about $37.50 US) and due out in February 2006.
Given the price which is too low for the upcoming Binaltech Broadcast
and the TFC classification, it appears the TFC line may not be
cancelled after all.

Galaxy Force Primus confirmed
Hobby Link Japan strikes again today, this time with a listing for
Galaxy Force Primus, which many had speculated would not be released
in Japan. The listing is for a February release at 7600 yen (about $67

IESB has posted up a video interview with what seem to be the
current writers for the new Transformers movie, Roberto Orci and
Alex Kurtzman.

Below is an exerpt from the video:

Q: So Megatron, tank or gun?
A: We are handling everything like a Supreme Court. We are taking
everything in from the fans and taking it under judicial review.
Treating every decision like it's law. I don't know how we can do it
without making Megatron a tank...that's probably how where we're
going to end up.

Q: So are you thinking Generation 1, Generation 2? Mixture of both?
A: A mixture actually, there will be a lot of G1 but also some new
characters that people have never seen before.

Q: So there will be new characters.
A: Yes.

Q: Michael Bay is still attached, how much influence is he having?
A: A lot, its a really great group ...everyone loves the franchise,
loves the universe, we want to make a great movie

Q: Don Murphy wants the original voiceover actors is that something
you guys have in mind?
A: We've been writing it with them in mind because since we we're
fans that's the voices we have in our heads...I think its going to
ultimately be up to Michael

Q: Will we see the homeworld (Cybertron)?
A: We are talking about that we would love to do that...

Q: How is the script coming along?
A: Really well

Q: So when will you think Michael Bay is going to start doing this
thing?
A: We are working with Michael very closely right now on the movie
and so far everyone is really happy with what we're doing so knock
on wood...
