hi sylvia
both the longhair and shorthair and carriers have stripes. I tell by looking at
them straight after they are born - the longhairs have a shinier head especially
when the light shines on to them. I have had many pics sent to me from around
the world to identify longhairs in first few days and it is really easy to do
with 100 percent success. All I ask is that they photograph them so the camera
captures the back of the neck and top of head (hold pups so head faces away from
camera) the longer fur on neck and flat lying sleek coat on head confirms the
longhair gene. Once you have seen it it is easy to do. Most people can separate
longhairs from shorthairs if you ask them to in a mixed litter although most
will think the longhairs are the shorthairs. this is because the shorthair coat
sticks out from the body more because the coat is shorter and so gives the
impression of thickness whilst the longhairs have longer hairs that fit more
snugly along the body and lie flat giving a s
ofter silkier texture and so confuse people. there are lots of other ways to
confirm longhairs if you can see and feel them including the feel, weight, of
pup length of certain hairs along tummy, legs etc etc etc.
cheers ingrid
