Sending dogs to the US isn't that big of a deal. The puppies are
microchipped before they leave here and registered with the CKC by the
breeder. To register with the AKC you have to get an official pedigree
from the CKC and then fill out the AKC paperwork. The only catch is if
we put a non-breeding agreement on the CKC registration - this is
standard practice for breeders in Canada. Unfortunately, AKC won't
register a dog with a non-breeding agreement on it. SO, Canadian
breeders often co-own puppies going to the US and then don't put a
non-breeding on the registration - then you can AKC register. You can
drop the co-ownership later - like when the dog is spayed or neutered.
The other option is for the breeder to hold onto the registration until
the dog is spayed or neutered.
If you cross the border before they are 12 weeks of age you don't have
to do a rabies shot.
