Hello everybody,

I was wondering if anybody on the list can help solve a problem for
me. My longhair has lost all the feathering from her tail over the
last 6 - 8months. I am quite disappointed as she used to have such a
beautiful tail but now it resembles more of a 'labrador' rather than a
'goldie' tail (for lack of a better description).

Does anybody have any advice on how to 'grow it back' - again for lack
of a better description. Whilst i have owned weimaraners for the past
23 years, Ayela is my first long hair thus I haven't had a lot to do
with 'coat maintanence'.

She is fed a premium diet (Hill's active)and has a beautiful shiny
coat. The feathers on her hocks and front legs look lovely. We live in
Palmerston North so it is not really sun-bleached (as we get plenty of
rain/clouds/terrible weather here). She does however sleep in her
crate inside at nights (thus doesn't have to deal with cold weather
during the night. She also rolls allot and is constantly wagging her
tail (is she wearing the feathers off perhaps??)Ayela is from a Lhc to
Lhc mating.

Is there something I could be doing to help her feathers grow back?

Do any of you groom your dogs tails?(i have never groomed her tail.I
infrequently groom her mostly before shows/when she is moulting/if she
needs it.)

How often do you all bath you Lh's? (she is onl bathed around 4 - 5
times a year - i used to do it more when we were regularly showing but
now that she is made up we really only go to specialty shows. Am I not
bathing her enough/bathing her to much?)

Sorry for all the silly questions but I really would like to get her
tail looking like it used to again! I am not really sure why it has
lost it's feathering as the rest of her coat looks stunning!

I would apreciate any help,

Cheers

Rachael

Has she been in season by any chance or is she just moulding???? If these are the reasons for her "problem", there is not much you can do, since this is a...

Rachael You didn't mention if she has been chewing at her tail? Or if there are raw spots as well as the hair loss? Where we live, fleas are a problem. And...
