Re: [Weimaraner_Longhaired] Tails

HI rachel
this can be a problem with some longhairs unfortunately and nearly always
bitches and I wonder if the lhc to lhc could be part of it as I have seen it a
couple of times once with one of mine and twice with dogs others have bred.
Having said that full littermates have not had the same problem. My experience
is still quite limited as I do not puppy farm but only breed for ourselves so
despite being in the longhair since 1997 we have bred less than 20 longhairs.
All but one had fantastic feathering. all were from lhc to lhc. The one who
doesnt tends to lose it after her season but it grows back poorly. Her
fullsister has no such problem and lives inside all the time. Her kennel mate
has no such problem and lives with her and eats the same food. Her two babies
have no such problem.
so I believe it is an individual thing. I believe they tend to just do it
despite how you feed or groom. however if you can find a cure tell me too!!!!
I do brush the tail but only do it when its wet so dont pull hair out. Probably
the only way to improve it would be to desex her and I wouldnt recommend that
just to improve hair growth. Boys never get it so I think that reinforces the
seasons affect on it.
Good luck
cheers Ingrid

Has she been in season by any chance or is she just moulding???? If these are the reasons for her "problem", there is not much you can do, since this is a...

Rachael You didn't mention if she has been chewing at her tail? Or if there are raw spots as well as the hair loss? Where we live, fleas are a problem. And...

Hello Bonnie, Ingrid, and Marjolein Thank you all for your suggestions (albeit not exactly what I was hoping to hear!lol). Ayela's tail has been 'unimpressive'...
