CCD is a level of Obedience competition they have put in below CD. It stands for
Community Companion Dog. The CD had two heeling patterns, one on lead and one
off, so they took the on lead heeling and made it CCD. There is a figure 8 in
the heeling, stand for exam, all done on lead, a recall, a sit/stay and a
down/stay. Don't remember how long for. Just seems FOREVER at the time!!
It is in place of the old Novice Encouragement, and gives a title. It was
hoped to get more people into Obedience by making the first step not so big.
Felt big to me! Well, I did start off with her, as I thought that if I could
train her, I could train anything. It has been so long that I have trained and
qualified as an Obedience instructor in that time! I have just started Zed off.
She is a very different kettle of fish!
With Obedience here, you have to do each level to move on to the next, except
with CCD. You don't have to do it and can go straight into Novice if you like.
So those people who are starting to put CCD, CD, CDX after their dog's names are
not correct. Same with tracking. It is not TD, TDX. You have to do each to go
on, and once you have your Tracking Ch, you can't even compete. Shame, that.
What they are introducing from next year is another level for tracking Chs. Like
the Variable Surface Tracking in the US. They won't be doing it in New South
Wales, though. Most of the Tracking trainers are of 'a certain age' and this
year put T Ch on most of their dogs. Tracking is limited to Sydney, mainly, and
they have said that they won't be doing it. The Tracking community in Victoria
is HUGE, no doubt they will take it on happily. The Champion of Champions down
there this year was a LH.
With the CGC, there is no recogition of it here at all. At least you have
that, even though it's not a title. Most people here have never heard of it. I
am hoping to put several more through this year. I think it is important, and it
should be a title. It is something we can do to say that our dogs are well
behaved and stable, and in the face of the anti-dog lobby, I think it's
important for breeders, and the dog world at large, to be seen to be doing
something. Lara (LH) and Zed (SH) both got their's this year, and I believe they
are the first show titled Weis with their CGC. Have not been able to find any
others. Lara was first, so the very first was a LH!

Wow!! Thats even better!
So... mind my ignorance but what does CCD stand for? (We dont have that
here, and we only just got CGC - but its not an official title yet - just
'awards')
Congratulations Ch Lara CCD CGC!
