Welcome Tiffany, to the Wonderful (if sometimes wacky)world of Weis!
Of course, we are all horribly biased towards these grey beauties,
hairy or not, so be warned! LOL!
Your research is a great idea, we have a boarding kennel, and I come
across alot of people who pick a breed by looks. It is important to
look at not only is a breed right for you, but are you right for a
particular breed and dog.
On longhairs, I have met two I would call 'delightfuly mad', but on
the whole they ae a little more laid back than their smooth
counterparts. Now some people will tell you that can't be, but my
vet tells me that happens in other breeds too, that longhaired
daschunds are easier than smooths, and wirehaireds are quieter
still. So there you go.
Anyway, hope you find what and who you are after. If any of us can
be of any help, just ask.
Wendy

Greetings one and all!

I've just joined and thought I would introduce myself - to prove I'm
good at following the start-up directions! <grin>

I'm Tiffany Smith and I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

I've been on the hunt for a great dog to join my family for about 12
months now, mostly researching breeds and reading lots and lots. My
search so far has taken me into nearly every breed of gun dog since I
want a companion animal and they best fit the bill. I had originally
excluded weimaraners because I was worried they were too "alpha" for
me but have since spent time chatting to a friend who has a weim (got
her as a pup of about 14 weeks and she's now almost a year old). Her
expertise with dogs coupled with her personal experience with a weim
has turned me around. I'd always loved the look and presence of
weims but didn't want to select a breed on looks....

So my more recent reading on weims has led me to knowing there is
such a thing as longhaired weims and I must confess I'm a bit sold!
Great dog, fabulous personality and the unique looks are very
appealing. I know no where near enough about weims yet and would
love to tap into the collective expertise of this group which
specialises in longhaired weims.

I'm pleased to meet you all and look forward to learning heaps about
weims and longhaired weims while I'm here. Thanks for letting me
join.

Tiffany

Congratulations Ingrid and Bill!
Nothing must so nice as success on a global scale! First Holland, then Sweden,
what's next, Crufts? Oh no, that's right, Digger already went. Maybe BOB there
next! And Sasha's last litter also contained two Royal Challenge winners. Not
bad...... Well done, especially for a small kennel. And, of course, our Riley
Ratbag (from the Spring Fair almost brag) is her first grandchild. There is a
pic of him on our site (please see links) but a baby photo. Will put up a more
recent one soon, but he is still only 3 and a half months. I think he is growing
to be more and more like his Mum, Lara. I know Ingrid has a beautiful pic on
her site of Sasha carrying a stick with a smooth (whose name escapes me).
Keep up the good work, and I am certainly looking forward to further good news.
Wendy
P.S. Phantom sends a big kiss to his Mum, Sasha.

Hi Wendy,
It is really great when a judge actually looks at a long hair and
to make such a loveley comment really makes your day.
Keep plugging along you will get there one day.

Hi all,
No, this is not a brag (unfortunately!) but at least a nice comment.
For the benefit of those list members from outside of NSW, or in
fact Australia, the Spring Fair is two large dog shows held on the
Canine Council grounds in western Sydney, over two days. This year
there was over 2,000 entries on both days. On the Saturday, our baby
Riley was the only longhair. He is 3 & a half months and it was his
second show. Our judge was Mrs C Jarman from South Africa, although
I'm sure she didn't have a South African accent. When we were
finishing up in the ring, Mrs Jarman came to shake my hand and
said "He is very, very nice." That was nice, but I thought no more
about it. The next morning I was walking down to the ring, and she
walked past, and then stopped me. She then told me that he was so
very nice, and such bone! She told me that she wanted to give him
2nd baby in the group, but the steward told her she could give only
one. How cool is that! He was the very first puppy born to us, and
we only got two. So I guess it's close enough to a show brag for me,
a judge who actually looked down the end of the line. Hopefully I'll
be able to actually put up a show brag here one day!
Hope every one is keeping well and we see a few more longs in the
ring,
Wendy

Hi Petra,

Im a good friend of Kristina from Pasquinel's as you may know she has
a shorthair from us, her Fleur, Greydove French Affair, but I think
she is very intent on having beautiful longhairs and I am sure yours
is one of them...must be from Gosan's first litter?

Hi All,
I have been out of circulation for a little while (due to illness
and being in hospital) and now I hawe have babies from Leyla. On
Thursday (while I was away with Kurt on his school camp) Leya
decided not to wait until Saturday when she was due but have the
babies at about 6am and when Dale went up to the kennels she had had
2. 1 was dead and very small and the other alive and well. After
many frantic phone calls from Dale he managed to whelp the litter
and took them to the vet at 10am where they gave her a neddle and
she popped out the last puppy at 11am. There are 5 boys and 4 girls
and are all doing well at around 600grams each. They are all short
hair but will be long hair carriers. In a couple of weeks i will
take some photos and try to post them for all to see.

Talk with you soon.

Hi all,
I know this is a longshot, but it's worth it. There is a longhair
bitch of Caron Hill's in Darwin that needs to get back home. I am a
third party in this, so I may well have some of the details totally
wrong. But Gigi is safe in the care of someone, but even then, I
think she can't be there very long. So we need someone who is flying
out of Darwin either to Sydney or Canberra, who would be willing to
travel with her on their ticket.
Please feel free to contact me privately wendls13@...
Thanks in anticipation

Will get some up to date photos this weekend and post them next week. As you
all know it was because of Aimee that I have the Longhairs but I have to admit I
am really enjoying them and having a lot of fun showing them. They are now even
2 baby in groups each and 1 baby in show each. They have quite a fan club
around the rings (from Viszla, Goldie, Cocker, Malamute, Border Collie and heaps
more people) with lots of cheers when they win. Some of my friends like one
and get quite ticked off when the other one wins.

Wow Carol, well done!! I missed all this as I was packing up. Had a long way to
go and tried to get home in time to feed the boarders (school holidays, so lots
in). It may be a bit mean, but I really didn't expect any longhairs to even get
a look in. I am very pleasantly surprised! Congratulations!
Wendy

stress free trip. Mum has just bought me a small motorhome so wanted to
take it for a run. Scandal and Gossip had a ball staying at friends places
and playing with American Cockers and Gordon Setters. Anyway went to the
Sydney specialty on Sunday judged by Allan Pepper from Canada. Scandal
beat his sister for baby of breed and then won Baby in Show. There were
only him and Gossip in the Baby class Longhairs but there were six
Weimaraner baby dogs and three Weimaraner baby bitches entered. I was so
proud. They also did a run off for puppy of Breed with the baby, minors and
puppy class and he won puppy of breed over the Challenge winning bitch who
was runner up best of breed. Can't figure out why or how they can do this
as ANKC rules state that a baby under 6 months cannot compete against
anything over 6 months. Anyway for those who are interested here are the
results:

Well done Carol, congratulations. Its does sound strange that he was up against
a bitch over 6 months though, does'nt it. But at least he won!!

Hi ruth gary and family.
tragic to hear of roxanne's loss. Bloat and snake bite are the worst because it
is all so sudden and unexpected, healthy one day and gone the next. Over the
years I have lost two from bloat and it is just so frustrating. Do you want me
to print this ode to roxie in the next mag?

We have had lots of tragedies here with our breeding program and losing some
pups but I guess they are just set backs and we will just have to get on with
it. The good news for us is that we at least have two live pups from Misty this
time but we have just had ongoing problems with her second and third litter so
now thats it for her. Its sad for her cos she just loves puppies, even the dead
ones!!! She'll just have to play grandma to the others next time. What is so
frustrating is that we wait two years to do a litter and breed just what we want
then get so few puppies and some of our puppy buyers have waited that long too!
I guess I'll have to do another litter with one of the others now, more worry
and heartache. sometimes I hate this breeding game. WE have been up for about
ten nights straight with this last lot which is what pulled the boy through (he
only weighed 200 g at birth). Now he is about 500 g.
again sorry to hear your news.Cloud is fine, lovely and happy and gets on with
everyone. Still loves chasing those birds and now has Kimba in the act. She has
gone off to do a few shows in Canberra with Maree, so will see how she goes.
cheers
  ingrid

Carol thanks Mate. Dont know if you ever saw her , she was not pretty but she
was a Weimaraner in every sense of the word. Fantastic little gundog and to die
of bloat like this, I did not even hear a peep out of her. Can't get over
it.Gary. Here she is with Kathleen

LOSS OF A DOG
If you've ever known the joyful sound
Of barks that fill the air-
A sloppy kiss, a friendly paw,
A quiet adoring stare-
If you've ever had a special friend
To share a tear or two,
Or maybe just a wagging tail
To lift you when you're blue-
If you've ever felt the wrenching pain
That only death can send,
Then you have lost
Not just a dog-
You've truly lost a friend.
But God is good and treasures love
And there at Heaven's gate-
A sloppy kiss, a joyful bark-
Your precious friend awaits.

So sorry you've lost your Roxy. It's so sad to lose one, yet alone one so young.
Some are just so special, dog of a lifetime. I have one myself, and dread the
day. May your memories comfort you just a little. Don't forget she'll be waiting
for you at the Rainbow Bridge, and it sounds like you'd better plan on some
hunting.

Klaswei Kennels sadly announce the loss this morning of their beloved
Roxanne. Aus Ch Kismaner Smokey Haze. Roxanne was 4 years old. Rox
was the most special of Weimaraners, she was the best gundog I have
ever owned or in fact seen. She had no paper qualifacations, she just
