A woman brought a very limp duck to a veterinary surgeon. As she
lay
her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened
to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head
sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, your pet has passed away."
The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?
"Yes, I'm sure. The duck is dead," he replied.
"How can you be so sure", she protested. "I mean you haven't done
any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or
something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned
a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's
owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his
front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to
bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog and took it out and returned a few moments
later with a beautiful cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also
sniffed the bird from its beak to its tail and back again.
The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly,
jumped down and strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said,
this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."
Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys, and
produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.
"$150!" she cried.
"$150 just to tell me my duck is dead?!!"
The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it,
the bill would have been $20. But with the Lab Report and the
Cat Scan.....it all adds up."

Congratulations Ingrid! So nice to see Aussie longs doing it on the world
stage! A little birdie told me that Grausturm has also just had it's first
GRAND CHAMPION! So Mystical (not a longhair) is now Gr Ch Grausturm Clever
Misty. Well done Ingrid, and Annie and Kev in Victoria. Also Tassie's
latest export is Grausturm Love Is A Drug (Audrey) who has just left for
Latvia. (My Phantom is daddy). Wish I could have gotten to see her before
she left. Ausrey is, of course, non-hairy litter sister of Grausturm Live
The Dream, the longhaired baby that got Baby in Group at her first show.
That's a lot for a small kennel.
Keep us updated with news!

Well, if my keyboard wasn't possessed, it would have been a good roll up!
LOL! As for property class and then eligible for challenge, I guess they
mean that if they are in Veterans, they can still be shown in the regular
classes. I suppose this is the opposite of the way the Royal is, when Puppy
of the Day can knock dogs out of the group. In England the Veterans is
competitive, in the challenge line up, not a property class. I guess if they
have it as a property class only, they can still be entered in the show. I
think all they are saying is that winning or losing that will not affect the
show proper. Could be a little clearer.

Hi Wendy,
As much as I am looking forward to the National I wonder what a good roo is?
as per your last post?
I cant wait.
I wonder if a dog is entered in veterans and is beaten in the veteran class
if it can then compete in the breed class also? I think its a bit silly to
have the Veterans as a property class at a National when they can compete
(and the only time they can) in the challenge line up.! What does everyone
else think? Opportunity lost! Ah well it will only be another 25 years
before they get to correct their errors!
Talk soon.

Hey Roz, you are the same! I recall staying with you, never having met you
before, and we beat you on two days, and you still fed us! LOL! Yes, I
think that it's the lovely laid-back, friendly hairy ones that help spread
it around.

Thanks for the lovely comments Wendy,
It is never a problem to me to be beaten by myself! So to say! LOL
Actually, Deb Neumann offered to handle one of my bitches in the challenge
line up if needed at the champ show. By itself that is not a big thing but
you have to understand I had to beat her to get both bitches through to the
challenge. I thought that was really nice of her.
As it turned out she wasnt required but it was nice that the offer was
there.
I always believe that what goes around comes around.
I would like to hope that someone wouldnt spoil my win (when I get one) by
getting bitter and twisted over their loss!
Another day , Another dog show.
Hope everyone keeps happy and hugs their dogs.

Thanks Caron, I'm sorry, I beat you twice in two days, it's nice when it's
shared around a bit more than that! But then, Lara IS a Sinaway, and she is
the Mum of Riley, so it's all good! But win, lose or draw, you are always
gracious. Makes a nice change. Both you and Deb (Neuman) are good sports.
Pity not all people in the dog world aren't. I find that takes away from
the enjoyment of any win you might have. Then, maybe that's just me thinking
you might get the support that you give others. Naive little thing, aren't
I!? LOL!

Hi Wendy,
I have found an interesting site that has free classifieds. I thought you
might like to put your boarding kennels on there. It appears to be mostly in
the ACT.

IF I DID NOT HAVE DOGS.......
I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.
My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.
All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of dog
hair.
When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.
When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading
through dog bodies who beat me there.
I could sit on the couch the way I wanted, without taking into
consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get
comfortable.
I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree, like doggie
bones, stuffed animals or have to answer to people why I wrap them.
I would not be on a first name basis with three vets.
The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: "out", "sit",
"down", "come", "no", "stay", and "leave him/her/it ALONE".
My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.
My pockets would not contain things like poo bags, dog treats and an extra
leash.
I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L or F-R-I-S-B-E-E
or W-A-L-K.
I would not look strangely at people who think having their ONE dog
ties them down too much.
I'd look forward to Spring and the melting of the snow instead of
dreading "mud season".
I would not have to answer the question "Why do I have so many
dogs?" from people who will never have the joy in their life of
knowing they
are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they
will
ever get.
How empty my life would be....
Scuse me while I go scoop some poop...
What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would
die from great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the
beasts,
soon happens to man.

Hi all, just can't wait to tell someone about the week we've had ( well, 3
days really).
On Wednesday at Sydney Royal Lara (Ch Sinaway You Can Hope) was Bitch
Challenge, and Runner Up Best of Breed.
Phantom (Grausturm Ima Tassidevil) was 4th in a class of 11, the judge
saying he thought he was great, with a beautiful silhouette, but was just
too thin for him at the moment. We have had 5 girls in season, one after the
other. He's lucky he was as well covered as he was! He was DCC last year,
but it was nice to have him at least placed. ( He's not a hairy Wei, but he
s at least a carrier)
On Good Friday at the Weimaraner Club of NSW show, Riley (Syrinx Devil Inthe
D Tail) at the tender age of 8 months was Dog Challenge, and Puppy of Breed!
Lara was Australian Bred of Breed, ResBCC and Runner up Best of Breed!
The Judge, Stephanie Rickard, said that the longhairs at the show were the
best she had seen, and she had judged them all over the world. She thought
they had fabulous heads, especially our little guy. These are lovely words
to hear, especially as he was the very first puppy born to our prefix.
Of course, now it's back to normal, picking up dog poo in the boarding
kennels!

Bob called in to work and said, "Sorry Boss, I can't come in to work today,
I feel really sick. I've got a headache, a stomach ache and my legs hurt. I
m not coming in."
The boss said, "You know, Bob, I really need you today. When I feel like
that, I go to my wife and ask her for sex. That always makes everything
better and I can still go to work. You try it."
Two hours later, Bob calls again. "You know, Boss, I did what you said, and
I feel great! It's amazing. I'll be at work soon. Oh, and you've got a nice
house...."

Hi Liane, I guessed you had Arrow mated but wasn't
sure who you used over her. I do remember them both,
but they must have grown up a lot since them. Can
you send me pics of the two and their registered
names. Also what is your prefix. People like to
know it if I can give some details. Also your ph.
number would be handy. You can email this to me
privately if you don't want it going everywhere.

Ta Roz,
Lara is the furthest along, and is the one that I am aiming to get there, if
possible. She is very happy to do it, and very quick to learn, and retains
it so very well. Must take after Uncle Stryker. She is the second best in
the class, and yet had 8 months away after the pups, and all the others have
gone through from their last class. The other three are the pups, and
Phantom. The pups - socializing, which is really paying off. I call them
pups, but they are nearly 8 months old. I guess they will always be Mummy's
babies! LOL They are just in beginners, so taking it just as they go. No
huge plans for them yet. Phantom is the other. He is very hard to work with,
as nothing seems to really grab him. He lives to wee on things! I threaten
to have it surgically removed every week. Now a bitch in season - THAT would
motivate him! So the other three are going for other reasons at this point.
Lara is probably the ET possibility, but Phantom could easily be. Lara is
happy to do whatever you want. Kim will be doing it, and she is very fit,
and will be even more so after her recruit course LOL!!!!! I'd pay to see
her in camouflage with boot polish on her face!!! G.I. Jane! Not sure if she
ll bike it or run it. But I'll get Lara going in the mean time. When ours
EVENTUALLY get their CD's, they will get a thing called a Dunbar Medal. They
go to dogs who have their show title and then their obedience titles. A CD
gets you a Bronze, a CDX gets a silver, a UD gets a gold. No Weimaraners
have ever won one. Certainly no longs. Ours are the first training with The
Companion Dog Club. And as it turns out, Major Dunbar, who set up the award,
had a Lab who eventually became an AOC, well, that dog is buried here in the
cemetery. So now I feel I have to do it.
With the tracking, I won't be doing any of it, just offering support and the
use of our property and others that I am scaring up around here. By the
time I'm ready to go with it, I hope it will be established.
So it's not as bad as it looked at first!
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Firstly set your priorities as to what you really want
to achieve. Besides your job you have 4 dogs on the
go. Can you give each one the time it will take to
teach everything correctly.
Obedience You really want to do the National -
make that the first dog you train to perfection with
obedience. Every dog you are training is different to
train. You must remember that.
ET Practice starts at a slow pace. Firstly is your
dog you want to do it with fit and happy to run beside
a bike, or are you going to jog it. If yes to the dog
-are you fit. If not, start practicing a couple of
months beforehand. You don't want cracked pads or
your out. Answer these and I will continue further.
Tracking What have you done so far. Weis are
usually exceptionally good at this. Start them slowly
and show them exactly what you want. Go too fast in
thinking you are right and they will overshoot corners
and just go looking for anything they can find or
start airscenting all the time.
Showing Well you have heaps of time for that. Do
like I did and fit it in when you have nothing else
on.
You will find your dogs may enjoy certain areas of
work more than others. You may have one that just
loves obedience and another that loves tracking.
Start off with what they do best.
Good luck.

Hi Roz,
Let me add my public congrats to those already sent in private.
What an I aiming for with my dogs this year?
Well you have made me think.
I know I will be showing a few times this year and of course there is the
National in Victoria in November. I hope the Obedience Trial goes well for
you Roz. Just think. Victoria wont have to have another National for 25
years! So you guys had better make it a good'n.
Apart from taking it a bit easier I suppose thats all. I have to say it was
great to get to the Wolumla shows and catch up with Wendy and yourself. Cant
wait for the Sydney Royal. Only one week away. Who has entered? I have Glory
in the lhs. Who is staying for the Champ show on the Friday? I got my cards
back yesterday so I am in officially.
How did you go Wendy?
Good luck to everyone.
Hear from you soon.
