Hi all, I know I'll regret this tomorrow, but I'm so excited, I just have
to! I got this email tonight, and just had to share it with basically
everyone I ever met, and as many other Wei lovers as possible as well!
From what I can work out, Hunting Breeds is the gundog and hound groups.
This little girl's longhaired grandma (Aust Ch Grausturm Dare To Dream) is
now in Sweden, and was BOB at the Norwegian Winners show in 2004, and that
grandma's half brother is now Netherlands Ch Grausturm Extra Special, the
first Australian longhair to be invited to Crufts, PERHAPS the first Aussie
Wei of either variety? I'm not sure, someone will tell me LOL!
For the WinWei gang, Audry's daddy is a Fred great grandson.
Dear Ingrid, Maree and Wendy,
I'm sorry this is a joint letter, but there is so much to say and not much
time
as I need to get back to writing my MA paper. :(
http://fotki.lv/?x=OS5RKFxDRy06RDxIU1M5LlMoXEJXQFNNRy06RjxIUkNURlQ=
So, these are pictures of Audry's VERY FIRST SHOW here in Latvia! It was a
hunting breeds speciality put up by our club, and even though I WAS nervous,
I
knew I had a superb dog, so I was not worried TOO much. Audry gaited fine,
(I
still need to work on it with her), but when she stacked, EVERYONE was blown
away. I could hear the judge dictating the critique to the secretaries in a
clear, loud voice, and it was so awesome to listen to it as I was stacking
our
girl. "Correct size, good build, beautiful expressive head, typical lines
and
proportions, eyes currently changing their colour, correct bite, teeth
currently changing, long neck, beautiful body lines with a strong topline,
well-developed chest, excellent angulation, effortless and ground-covering
movement." Wow wow wow wow!!! was all I could think. In the end, the judge
announced the evaluation: "'Excellent' and whatever else is the highest
award a
puppy can be given at this show." Since this was only a Baby class, we were
given a PP (Promotion Prize). Unfortunately, there was no Baby In Show or
Puppy
In Show competition, but I would have liked to see how Audry would compare
to
the other pups there.
The judge thanked us as she was done with the critique, and said that it was
a
pleasure to see Audry. And it all continued as we walked out of the ring -
probably the BEST thing was to hear experienced handlers tell me that they
were
DROOLING while Audry was stacking in the ring.
Looking at those pics I do see that her rear legs were a bit too far back
(the
show side especially), and the judge even corrected that once Audry stacked
herself, and asked me if I had shown German Shepherds before, LMAO. I'll
have
to practice stacking her more, too, in front of a mirror.
At the show, she was SO excited to meet all the dogs that I realized I had
been
taking it for granted when I saw a 6 months old Bracco Italiano puppy that
was
awfully shy and didn't want to see ANY dogs at all. Audry wanted to kiss
everyone there, even after she got told off by an older GSP bitch. Needless
to
say, she loved meeting people as well, but not so much as the dogs. LOL
I am also attaching the pics of the awards that are not in the gallery. The
judge was FCI Judge Natalya Bulelik from Belorussia.
All I can say right now is BIG THANKS for sending us SUCH a puppy. Thanks
very,
very much for everything. I cannot believe, looking at these pics, that it
is
me in the ring with her, it is SUCH a dream come true.
Love,
Irena and Audry

That is so sad to hear. With our litter, we lost our longhair girl, but
still had a smooth girl and a LH boy. It must be just terrible to lose the
whole litter, both for you and for the Mum. I hope you find out what it was.

A couple of months ago, we found the perfect stud for Mowgli, our LH
(german/austrian lines). Since we really like outcrossing, it was
very difficult to find a stud on the mainland. Via another English
Weim forum, we found us the perfect match.
So after arranging loads of things, in January the time was there to
go to the UK. We had a great trip and had a lovely week in the Lake
District. The people we rented from were sooooo dog-friendly, it was
unbelievable!!!
After a wonderfull week, we went back to Holland, with a hopefully
pregnant bitch. After three weeks we were sure, we could feel
them!!!
As some of you might know, this was a very exciting period. We had
to arrange everything and at the end of March we were ready for a
nice and healthy litter. At the 27th of March, the temperature
dropped and at around 11 pm she started. At 12 o'clock the first one
arrived and 2.5 hours later, number 6 was born. They all looked
healthy and were a good size!!!! Oh man, I was sooooo proud!!!! It
was monday the 28th, easter monday.
The next morning, the first one was already death and another one
was poorly. He died not long after. There were no signs that the
pups were ill or something, so I thought it had to do with the mom,
being a bit nervous or something. At first I thought she might have
crushed them or something, without me noticing. This wasn't very
likely, since it was her second litter and there have been no
problems in her first litter.
Anyway, the rest was fine, so I hoped this was just an accident.
The 30th of March another puppy became poorly. I fed him through the
tube, but he died during the night. I still hoped the first 2 died
accidentally, so I didn't take any action then.
A week later, one of the bitches became poorly. I helped her again,
but she didn't survive. She left us at the 6th of April.
I brought her to the vet uni, because I wanted to know what was
wrong.
The worst was yet to come. The last bitch became ill friday the 8th
and since we knew what was coming, I decided to euthanise her. I'm a
vet nurse and gave the injection myself. It was the hardest thing I
ever had to do, since I first started this job 11 years ago.
The last boy didn't seemed ill at all, and he did very well till
saturday the 16th of April. While it was my birthday, I had visitors
and he died when I had a house full of visitors . It was my worst
birthday ever. The last boy was such a handsome chap. He already had
his eyes and ears open. He started to play and growled at me. I was
in love!!!
Unfortunately, it wasn't ment to be
I don't have a diagnosis yet, but they think it was canine herpes.
This is a virus most dogs have, but it hardly ever gives problems.
Well, it's been 10 days now, since the last one died and the world
looks a bit brighter again. Mowgli is fine thank god, although
somewhat hormonal. But she'll be fine. I really hope you'll never
ever have to experience a thing like this!!!!!
( I got the results back today, and it's not herpes. Not sure yet
what it is, but will let you know as soon as I know more, for the
sake of the breed).

Welcome Marjolein! Nice to have another LH lover. We are a small (but
growing) group, friendly as I am sure you will find. Can't wait to hear more
of your girls.
Where I live in NSW, you cannot hunt ducks, so if people want to do field
work, you must drive to another state to do so. I would love to see Weis
doing what they are meant to do. Maybe I'll get to Europe one day.

From me, Marjolein van Eijk from Holland. Since 5.5 years I'm the
very proud owner of LH's. We started with a German import, with
Austrian blood in her lines. She's turned out to be a vry good
bitch. She was Dutch show champion in no time (she earned the last
CAC, shortly after 27 months of age with a minimun of shows). Not
that it's that hard in Hollans, since you don't have much LH's in
the showring. Anyway, she became BOS one time at our clubmatch and
nearly won the BOB. The English judge was very fond of her, but the
other judge liked the dog better. The third judge chose the dog
unfortunately. At another show she was placed 6th in the breedgroup,
which has only been done once before with a LH. She also has a lot
of hunting abilities, although I was too inexperienced to actually
prove that to the world.
From her first litter (father: Dutch Champ. Aipi du Sous-bois
Argenté from french/belgium lines) I kept the one and only bitch.
Her name is Mowgli Proudly Presents Daan (Daan for short). She does
well in the show ring and only needs one more CAC and CACIB to
become Dutch and international champion. She has as much hunting
abilities as her mom and we've already earned a couple of
qualifications on field trials. We also did VJP (63 points with an
11 for the nose) and HZP (179 points with 11's for both nose and
searching) with her. We're pretty succesfull so far and I really
hope we'll continue with this. I'm planning on breeding her at the
end of this year.
We're also hunting with both of them.
I'm a vet nurse btw, for over 11 years now. Still happy with the job
and boss I started with 11 years ago.

Dog Hair: Potentially Dangerous!!!
In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the
discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This
substance, called "amo-bacter canis" has been linked with the following
symptoms in female humans:
* Reluctance to cook
* Reluctance to perform housework
* Reluctance to wear anything but jeans or sweats
* Reluctance to work except in support of a dog
* Physical craving for contact with dogs (may be an addiction)
Beware: If you come in contact with a female human affected by this
substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours on end.
This has been a Public Service Announcement...

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students...here is something to make you
chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort
from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own
children. After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And
the first thing he said was "DON'T!"
Keep Scrolling
"Don't what?" Adam replied.
"Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.
Keep Scrolling
"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve..we have forbidden
fruit!!!!!"
"No Way!"
Keep scrolling
"Yes way!"
"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God.
"Why"
"Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He
hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants.
A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was
angry! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked.
"Uh huh," Adam replied.
"Then why did you?" said the Father.
"I don't know," said Eve.
"She started it!" Adam said.
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"DID NOT!"
Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve
should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it has never
changed.
keep scrolling
BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY! If you have persistently and
lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be
hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think
it would be a piece of cake for you?
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT!
1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and
talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up.
2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children.
3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young.
4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word
what you shouldn't have said.
5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that
there are children more awful than your own.
6. We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.
ADVICE FOR THE DAY: Be nice to your kids. They will choose your nursing
home one day.
AND FINALLY:
IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION AND YOU GET A HEADACHE, DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE
ASPIRIN BOTTLE:
"TAKE TWO ASPIRIN" AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN"!!!!

Well, the decision about further surgery has been put off until tomorrow. It
looks even worse, but our Vet thinks he should look 'crooker' than he does,
so it may be a good sign, but on the other hand, there are signs that his
bladder is now involved.
I now have antibiotic injections to give him as well as two different kinds
in tablet form. He's going to need yoghurt for the rest of his life to make
up for this lot. And at the rate that his coat is falling out, I fear it may
not even be back in time for next years Sydney Royal. ;-)
It can't be a good thing when the vet says 'Good luck'.

hi Wendy
Please let me know how riley is going. I expect you have him on antibiotics.
Again can you whack him on some vitamin c tablets - go thru your herbal stuff
and see what else could boost his immunity. Try some yoghurt with acidophilus. I
suspect you are trying all this anyway. Try salt water bathing the wound
externally although its the internal stuff that is the problem but you cant
afford to let any external things exacerbate it. My fingers and everything are
crossed - the poor baby. I cant believe this rotten luck.

Well. Riley came through his surgery well enough, although took more time to
shake off the effects of the anaesthetic than expected. The first day looked
good, the wound looked good. So the next day, the tablets continued and I
didn't worry about it. I checked the wound again that night, and was totally
shocked at what I saw. I have never seen anything look so bad so fast. I
rang the vet, who was still at his surgery late, and he came to the house
on the way home. He took one look and said "That's F#$@ing awful!" The
muscle along both side of the wound was hard, the wound weeping and so red.
There was also swelling along his sheath. The incision starts right in front
of it, any closer and he'd be his own sister! So everytime he wees, it get
s wet. He was given injections, different tablets and next morning
yesterday, the wound looked almost back to normal.Today is another story.
The redness and swelling are back, the stitches are showing signs of
breaking down. If it has gotten into the abdominal cavity, and it look like
it has, we are in trouble. It looks like further surgery tomorrow, and he
may well lose more of his small intestine and part of his bowel. So we need
some good thoughts coming our way. The poor baby has not kept down solid
food since last Monday night, and has to be on liquids only for two weeks.
He has only managed two small meals of liquidized soup. So I can show you
what a grey saluki looks like!

hi Wendy
I must say I had my heart in my throat when I started reading this email. What a
nightmare! Glad to hear the furbaby rocknrolyriley is on the mend. Just finished
the Tas wei newsletter (it is a bit dated but these things happen. I am posting
it out today so you should get yours by tuesday I guess.)
Rileys half sister is growing well. Liesl is showing her tomorrow so we will see
how she behaves this time.

Wendy, Wendy, Wendy,
How much more is one wei family supposed to endure?
Your stress level must be at maximum and because your furbabies recover so
quickly, back to normal.
Someone up there is determined to bash you in the head and then stroke your
hand softly. One minute you are crying and the next you are thanking your
lucky stars that grey poochy is still here. You have definitely got both
YIN and YAN happening in your life.
Keep smil'n ... you are earning it the hard way... :-}

Subject: [Norton AntiSpam] Why Women Are Crabby!
We started to "bud" in our blouses at 9 or 10 years old only to find that
anything that came in contact with those tender, blooming buds hurt so bad
it brought us to tears. So came the ridiculously uncomfortable training
bra contraption that the boys in school would snap until we had calluses
on our backs.
Next, we get our periods in our early to mid-teens (or sooner). Along
with
those budding boobs, we bloated, we cramped, we got the hormone crankies,
had to wear little mattresses between our legs or insert tubular, packed
cotton rods in places we didn't even know we had.
Our next little rite of passage (premarital or not) was having sex for
the
first time which was about as much fun as having a ramrod push your
uterus
through your nostrils (IF he did it right and didn't end up with his
little cart before his horse), leaving us to wonder what all the fuss was
about.
Then it' was off to Motherhood where we learned to live on dry crackers
and water for a few months so we didn't spend the entire day leaning over
Brother John. Of course, amazing creatures that we are (and we are), we
learned to live with the growing little angels inside us steadily kicking
our innards night and day making us wonder if we were preparing to have
Rosemary's Baby.
Our once flat bellies looked like we swallowed a watermelon whole and we
pee'd our pants every time we sneezed. When the big moment arrived, the
dam in our blessed Nether Regions invariably burst right in the middle of
the mall and we had to waddle, with our big cartoon feet, moaning in pain
all the way to the ER.
Then it was huff and puff and beg to die while the OBsays, "Please stop
screaming, Mrs. Hearmeroar. Calm down and push. Just one more good push
(more like 10)," warranting a strong, well-deserved impulse to punch the
***** (and hubby) square in the nose for making us cram a wiggling,
mushroom-headed 10lb bowling ball through a keyhole.
After that, it was time to raise those angels only to find that when all
that "cute" wears off, the beautiful little darlings morphed into
walking,
jabbering, wet, gooey, snot-blowing, life-sucking little poop machines.
Then come their teen years. Need I say more?
When the kids are almost grown, we women hit our voracious sexual prime
in
our early 40's - while hubby had his somewhere around his 18th birthday.
So we progress into the grand finale: "The Menopause," the Grandmother of
all womanhood. It's either take HRT and chance cancer in those now
seasoned "buds" or the aforementioned Nether Regions, or, sweat like a
hog
in July, wash your sheets and pillowcases daily and bite the head off
anything that moves.
Now, you ask WHY women seem to be more spiteful than men when men get off
so easy INCLUDING the icing on life's cake: Being able to pee in the
woods
without soaking their socks...
So, while I love being a woman, "Womanhood" would make the Great Gandhi a
tad crabby. Women are the "weakersex"? Yeah right. Bite me.
Send this to seven bright women you know and maketheir day!!! Or at least
make them laugh a little.....

Well, I am starting to wonder if our first litter (of only 2) are cursed or
blessed. Our girl Bailey (Bugger) had a game with a Tiger snake about 2
months ago, and now her brother Riley (Ratbag) - of a recent specialty DCC -
has had his own 'adventure'. This line like to carry things, and the long
and the short of it is, he swallowed a bloody rock (WAY too big to be called
a pebble) and it got caught in his small intestine. We were a couple of days
without a diagnosis, a VERY dehydrated boy and are lucky to still have him.
He now has a cut on his tummy, and mummy has a new good luck charm. He got
it out yesterday, and has already bounced back. Now if a person had their
intestines out on a table yesterday, there is no way they would be as good
as this today! He came home still on a drip, and is sticking very close
today, a true Weimaraner velcro dog! So now he is known as Rock'N'Riley
Ratbag!

A woman brought a very limp duck to a veterinary surgeon. As she
lay
her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened
to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head
sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, your pet has passed away."
The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?
"Yes, I'm sure. The duck is dead," he replied.
"How can you be so sure", she protested. "I mean you haven't done
any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or
something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned
a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's
owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his
front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to
bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog and took it out and returned a few moments
later with a beautiful cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also
sniffed the bird from its beak to its tail and back again.
The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly,
jumped down and strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said,
this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."
Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys, and
produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.
"$150!" she cried.
"$150 just to tell me my duck is dead?!!"
The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it,
the bill would have been $20. But with the Lab Report and the
Cat Scan.....it all adds up."

Congratulations Ingrid! So nice to see Aussie longs doing it on the world
stage! A little birdie told me that Grausturm has also just had it's first
GRAND CHAMPION! So Mystical (not a longhair) is now Gr Ch Grausturm Clever
Misty. Well done Ingrid, and Annie and Kev in Victoria. Also Tassie's
latest export is Grausturm Love Is A Drug (Audrey) who has just left for
Latvia. (My Phantom is daddy). Wish I could have gotten to see her before
she left. Ausrey is, of course, non-hairy litter sister of Grausturm Live
The Dream, the longhaired baby that got Baby in Group at her first show.
That's a lot for a small kennel.
Keep us updated with news!
