Hi Ingrid,

Unfortunatly i have no idea where that LH came from... infact until
wendy mentioned the other day i thort our first LH's were bred in the
80s. I will have to do a bit of digging i can see - very difficult
since nobody puts LH after the dog's name so have no idea on data bases.

I always find it amusing what people think ayela is. I have alot of
american students in my class at uni so it's fun to educate them about
what she is... vet students love hearing about recessive genes etc!! :)

Some of the guesses as to what Ayela is have been are:

'Washed out coat' on a chocolate flatcoat
Flatcoat x weim
Saluki x weim
golden x weim

and my personal favourate ... i still crack up when i think about it is:

Boarder collie x weim

(this was guessed by a number of people at a particular agility show
because she was so fast everyone decided it must be b/c giving her the
long coat and speeding her up!! LOL)

Well nice meeting you. I ofcourse met Kimba last year at alot of breed
shows (wanaganui being very close to palmerston north) whilst i was
trying to finish ayela's title... kimba did well in the ring, nice dog.

Well cheers,

Rachael Misty and Ayela

Hi Rachael
welcome to the group. Lovely to hear all about you and ayela. I remember seeing
my first longhair in nz at a show back in late 70s when I was a kid. Dont
suppose you know where that one came from?
Like you I loved them straight away (although my dad reckoned they looked like a
cross between a weim and a golden retriever - but seeing as those were the two
breeds we owned no wonder I wanted one!!!). We now have two longhairs and
hopefully some more on the way. I also have a shorthair from new zealand kennels
who is hopefully a carrier and is the father of these pups!
anyway welcome again. I was reading about your success on euro weims.
cheers ingrid

Hello everybody,

I was having a flick throu all the previous posts and i decided i
better introduce myself properly!

My name is Rachael and currently i am a fourth year vet student at
Massey University in Palmerston North in New Zealand. I was a
particulary lucky individual who was born into a weimaraner family, so
as soon as i arrived home from the hospital i was greated by my older
brother "bayldone dominic" a SH wei. Dommy was sumwhat of a community
icon as he was a resterant dog - greating all the visiters as they
arrived for lunch! My family was lucky enough to have him for 16years!

The next dog we got i was allowed to choose (with the criteria from my
mum of 'big with short hair') and whilst i looked at other dog breeds
carefully i came back to the weim as i couldn't possibly see how a dog
could be more perfect than dommy! So little misty - possibly the
naughtest SH to grace the earth was chosen! ... i think it's possibly
because she's smarter than most people i know! :P

When i left home for uni - Misty of course came with me and soon we
started agility and doing more dog related activities. A family friend
of mine took me to a weim GSP match day where i saw my first LH puppy.
She was the most divine thing i had ever seen and i instantly wanted
to take her home! This started my quest to find out about getting a
LH!! I contacted all the breeders up north and visited shows in hope
of finding out who was breeding the LH's - but i was told by alot of
breeders that "it's impossible to get a LH - the only pups avalible
are in australia! Just get a SH!!" I knew there was LH's in NZ...
after all i had seen one! So i decided to contact the south island
clubs and breeders to see if anyone knew where the LH's were
commingfrom! I tracked down a breeder (who had two LHC's) and put my
name down for a little girl LH *fingers crossed* and waited.

....6months later i got a phone call from some people wanting to
re-home their female LH 10month old pup. I had my heart set on a puppy
but i decided to go look as she was only a hour and a half away from
me!! Well i turned up and met the most beautifully tempered dog ever.
Ayela was not only stunning but seemed easy to work when i spent time
in the yard with her. aparently her owners had hoped to be doing well
in the show ring with her - but that just doesn't happen here unless
you have a weim judge. What a mistake they made!! Their loss has been
my gain as now i have a stunning wee lady who has not only gained her
show Ch title (at the last two speality shows the judges have
individually spoken to me about the quality of my dog which is pretty
neat!!) But Ayes has also proved herself to be a great wee worker in
all other fields i have entered her in! :)

Ayela and I compete in agility (Ayela placed at her first show ever),
obedience (she was the top obedience weimaraner in new zealand last
year) and we have just started working trials this year (so far we
have only been to one trial where she was the top qualifing dog
beating all those noisey black and white dogs and shepards which was
pretty cool!!). Ayela is 2years old right now and she is such an
honest wee worker due to her strong desire to please!! She is a joy to
work and thrives on clicker training!!

I am still rather stoaked to find a LH discussion group. I was excited
to see twiggy's mum is on the group and see all the Lh pictures!! I
will try and put sum pictures up of Ayela as soon as i find the
time.Sorry this is such a long post... i am rather a chatter!! Whoops!
Nice to meet you all.

Cheers

Welcome Rachael and Ayela! A rumour had floated across the Tasman
that a second LH was 'close', but it seems you got there! Well done.
That is no mean feat agains the SHs. We just LOVE pics on this list,
you can have your own album and puts lots in for us to all look at.

This is quite a small, but supportive group, you will find noone
being nasty here. A nice bunch, they are!

Hello Cheril, (and everybody else...)

I just found this group when i was procrastinating doing study and
then of course spoted this message!!

The LH wei you saw at Palmerston North is my beautiful "ayela"
Up untill the last few years Lh's have been pretty uncommon in new
zealand. Three kennels here have produced sum in recent litters so we
now probably have around 30 longhairs spread out around the country.

Ayela is the second ever longhair in NZ to be made up to champion...
it is very hard to get recognised under a judge that doesn't know
weimaraners because here we show against the shorthairs. Ayela tends
to do well under weim specialists and was intermediate of breed at the
recent northern weimaraner show. But i must say it is rather thrilling
wen we do manage to beat the shorthairs!!

Oh and just to go for another brag Ayela is new zealand's most
qualified longhair ever having just gained her UDX (a tracking/working
dog title where she was the top scoring dog in the trial) and CDX.I am
extremly proud of her!! I presume you have a little longhaired delight
by now but just incase i thort id point out i plan to mate her next
heat so hopefully fingers crossed we will have more little longhairs
around the place!

Wow i can't believe sumbody spotted us at the show!! :) That rather
exciting!!

well nice to meet you all

Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to let you know that I am doing breed notes for
National Dog again, and so would like some news. Hairy or non hairy,
show, obedience, any of the things that you can do with your dogs. Got
your ET? Exciting brreeding? New import - anything that you can think
of. Wins of dogs you exported overseas? Overseas trip and shows you
went to, or dogs you saw? It is all important and interesting to read
about.

There is a deadline of the 15th of each month, so get those notes off
quickly.

Thanks all,
Wendy

Hi all,
I actually sent my congrats message a umber of days ago, but have
been having problems with the email and I know it only just went
out.

With LH grands, our member Caron Hill had the first, Aust Gr Ch
Sinaway Kaltegrad Kurt (ai), first bitch was Gr Ch Apamura Frilly
Knickers, the next I know of was Gr Ch Sinaway Quest For Gold (also
bred and co-owned by Caron, then Deb Neumann's (also list member, of
course,) Gr Ch Happylea Ghost Rider, and now Gr Ch Happylea Princess
Leya. There may be an extra, perhaps one of the Queensland breeders,
but these are also the only ones in 'Searching For Silver Grey'
the Hairies are well represented in the Dual Champions, but I guess
it is such a long slog to get a Grand on a LH, most people don't
worry about it. It is not as if we don't have the quality, as 2 out
of the 3 Australian Nationals have been won by Hairies!!! (I just
love that!)

Gazing into my crystal ball, I would think that Ch Bromhund Unique
Trudi will get there, she has had a Best In Group, and lots of
classes in Group, and Deb will come up with a third with Happylea
Kings Silver, who is still young, and has had a RU Best In Group,
and at least one class in group for each age group.

Regards,
Wendy

Congratulations Deb, Dale and Kurt, and of course, Leya! If I am not mistaken,
she is the second LH bitch in Australia to get her Grand. Appamura Frilly
Knickers was the first, and I think Leya is the second.

That will look nice on puppies pedigrees.

As far as I am aware this makes Leya the 1st Female Long haired
Weimaraner in NSW to obtain this title.
I would like to thank my sons Kurt Neumann and Dale Elliott for
showing Leya and reaching this milestone.
Leya will now be having a rest from the show ring for a couple of
months while she attends to some maternal duties.

I was wondering, how many LH Grand Champions have there been so far
in Australia? Just curious? Maybe there is a list of them somewhere,
or someone can make such a list?

Once again, huge congrats, how awesome. :))))

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Aust Ch Happylea
Princess Leya has obtained her final points for her Grand Champion
Title.

Welcome Jurate! Nice to have you as a group member. Sorry it took
so long for this to come through, but I have all first messages wait

Oh well.

Hi all,
I have put up an album for any Crufts pics anyone may have. Anyone can
add pics to this one. I have put in two pics of Mace who Allyson
mentioned, although these are not from Crufts. These are from Bernice,
via Tasha. ;-) Perhaps some of the pics that Fred took at the show
could go in here too? Allyson, I hope you have some of the most
beautiful Twiggy that you could contribute. Do you have one of her
being a TV star? And Mar, some of Dutchess?

Today the NSW Specialty Show is on here in Australia, and it seems to
be a show full of controversy, and it hasn't even started yet! Will
put up results as soon as I have them.

Regards,
Wendy

Special congratulations to Bernice who rarely shows, whose male Mace
was the only LH exhibit to gain a first and second place at Crufts
where it matters most, in the field trial and working dog classes.
one of the few working Weimaraners there on the day. Lovely write up
in the dog press too.
