Trudi got her Grand so I was told, in Melbourne at the Speciality
Show and she only got Best of Breed.
Could have well got Best in Group at Canowindra.
Could be wrong and stand corrected but I was at Speciality Show when
Deb said that that gave her the Grand.

Seems the BCC at the Victorian Specialty actually gave her the Grand. That's two
Best in Groups for Trudi now, as well as a Runner Up. Deb is not on the list.
Hear you have been having some success yourself lately. You and Ingrid both.
Care to share? LOL!

Hi all,
I am after some info from our world wide members. I was wondering if people
can fill in the gaps for countries that they know the rules for.
Australia
LH & SH are shown seperately
Can be bred together.
New Zealand
LH & SH are shown together
Can be bred together
UK
LH & SH are shown together
Can be bred together
Canada
LH & SH are shown together
Can be bred together
Germany?
Holland?
Japan/other Asian countries?
Are all FCI countries the same, or do they have their own rules?
Thanks everyone,
Wendy

Hi! Thanks to all of you who have joined the US Longhair discussion
group. Now I am working on a website and need your photos of LH
winning shows and working in the field. Please send the photo with
complete information (reg name of dog with titles, owners, breeders
and what/where the win is) to me at eslamberson@...
I would especially love to post photos of LH champions from different
countries.
For your field photos, same info - if it involves a trial, please
list the info.
And, puppy photos too! I would like to put in photos from newborn to
adulthood.
Eventually the website will be published at

Hi Denise,
I read with interest you unfortunate day at the show.
I know exactly what you are going through.
Every week I take my longhaairs out here in Australia and hope that
there may be at least one judge who will stand up and have some guts
and put my boy up. I manage to get the Challenges and Best of Breed
and occassionally will get a class in Group, but as for the big
awards like Best in Group or an In show award they a few and far
between.
I actually had a judge last year give me Runner up in Group. boy was
I shocked. When I went and asked him he said the dog had everything
he was looking for and he could move.
I have had many Judges come up to me and tell me after judging that
in structure my longhair is better that the short hairs that were
shown. BUT they still wont put him up.
Don't give up it is worth the effort and it will only take 1 dog to
start winning and the judges will start to take notice then. I just
hope that day is not to far away.

The puppy is ours and we have collected him. There has been alot of
fibs told regarding this pup, he certainly has no issue in
temperament and has been at the rspca quite some time although not
desexed. He did not 'not pass' a temperament test, he was apparently
surrendered 'aggressive' which is ridiculous. He is terribly thin and
we have him now so hopefully we can find him a good home. Caron as
you were able to find ouy we bred him I would like to know how you
found that out as when I phoned they were less than helpful in giving
out any information whatsoever. Narelle

Had a really bad experience at the dog show this past weekend.
Wanted to share and suggest others not give their entry money to the
judge.
Went to the show with 3 LHs. Jake - 8 months, Cooper - 10 months
and Porsche - 22 months. There were 4 other Weims showing - all SH,
all nice dogs. Jake lost to a very nice dog in the JP class.
Cooper lost WM so Jake and Cooper went in together for RWM. The
judge looked at them, asked if they were both 10 months old (??) and
then informed us that she was WITHHOLDING RESERVE because "they were
too tall and too immature". Yes, Cooper is tall but within the
standard, Jake is no mini either. Yes, they are immature - they are
puppies afterall. But to withhold reserve???? She was obviously
making a statement about not giving the LHs ANYTHING. I was shocked
and quite upset. I've had alot of judges that were very supportive
but none that were like this. I talked to the show secretary the
next day (who is head of the Breed STandards committee and a
supporter of LHs) and he just shook his head and suggested I write a
letter to CKC.
Meanwhile, this would be a judge to avoid. Terry Carter of Calgary,
Alberta.

Hi Caron,
Is the club rescuing these boys? If there is a need for a temporary
place for them, I will take them here. Deborah Howell already asked
about that for a SH she has, so she knows I'll take dogs. Do we know
the breeders? It has to be pretty limited as to where they can be from.

Hi everyone,
I've got some info on shows for Australian list members. I am sure we would
all be interested in International list members comments about any judges they
know anything about.
********************************************************************************\
*****
The Weimaraner Club of NSW has a Specialty show on October 12. It is calling
it a State Specialty Show. It includes FCI grading, which is nice, as the only
other time we can get gradings in Australia, is at the Nationals every 5 years.
I have a boy who didn't go to the last National, and will be decidedly a Veteran
by the next National, and I am SO taking him!
Judge is Dr Axel Linneweber (Germany) VDH FCI
Show is on October 12, at the Erskine Park grounds.
Entries close September 14 (which happens to be a Sunday, a bit odd)
Entry fees, 1st entry $30 includes catalogue, critique and grading, subsequent
entries are $25 including grading and critique. Baby and Minor puppy are $20,
with critique and grading (not FCI) and no charge for Veteran. Catalogues on the
day are $8.
********************************************************************************\
*******
The ACT Gundog Society has a double show on the weekend of October 4/5.
Mrs A O'Keefe. NSW is the judge for Weis and General Specials on 4th,
Mrs M Schelbach of Qld is the judge for 5th. Entries close sept 6. Anyone
requiring details can find it on the Dogs ACT website. They put all show
schedules up for anyone to access.
On the 3rd and 6th, there are also All Breeds shows.
********************************************************************************\
*******
In Canberra and Goulburn over the weekend of October 31 - November 3 we have
seven shows.
With this one, there are too many details, so if anyone wants all, email me
privately. It is also in the Dogs NSW August journal, for those in NSW.
Judges we have for Weimaraners are Mr C Rogers, NZ ; Mrs J Quiros Kubat,
Argentina; Mrs P Carpenter, QLD; Mrs D Tyssen, NZ; Mr R Scoggins, Mexico; Miss C
Stuart, NSW and Mrs A Curran, NSW.
********************************************************************************\
*******
Next February, Canberra Royal Show is February 28, General Specials 29th.
Judge is Mr Mike Shoreman, Canada.
At least he should have seen a LH by then. LOL
********************************************************************************\
*******
On the same day as Canberra Royal, in the afternoon, is the ACT Gundog Soc
Specialty Show.
Mrs Anne Raymond, South Aust, is doing Weis and LHs, General Specials judge is
Mr Enrique Filippini, Argentina.
There are no Babies or Minors at this show, so that it doesn't end too late.
********************************************************************************\
*******
I think the NSW Specialty is going to get a good interstate entry. If anyone
wants more details for any of these shows, just send me a private email at
syrinxkennels@... and I will send all details.
Cheers,

Ah, she may be a first time Wei owner, but I think she's going to do the breed,
and you, proud. She has even put an IPO (think that's right) - like Schutzhund-
title on two dogs, one a Kelpie, overseas! And with being invited to do Search
and Rescue training, that boy's going to go a long way. You found a good puppy
owner there, Ingrid.
Big congratulations on Brisbane, sure hope you get that trifecta. Hope you are
taking your boy Prince O Grey. He looks great.
Cheers,
Wendy

Her son to Mac won puppy dog and puppy of breed in the weimaraners as he is a
shorthair of course. Grausturm Quentins dream - probably pick pup from that
litter although there are lots of nice ones from what I have seen.He is
absolutely stunning living with a first time handler who is getting a lot of
negativity from other wei owners which is a shame but seems to be par for the
course in showing unfortunately here in australia. The better the dog the more
flak the owners get. I have had about 5 new owners leave showing because of
other exhibitors here in Tas. One loud mouthed owner keeps telling them to desex
them so they do or else just leave the so called sport!!! One way to get rid of
the competition.
One of my longhairs took best of breed at sydney royal this year so hoping for
the trifecta but we will see - that was Ch Grausturm jack o hearts.

Hey Bonie,
They still look like that in my yard! You just have to know where to find
them.
I have two or three girls who I could see doing something like that. My Lara
is my most placid one at Obedience. They use here for small dogs who are afraid
of big dogs, and the person there who does the hospital and school visits wants
us to join them, but I just don't have the time. What they don't believe is that
as home, she is the fiercest protector I have. She has a very good idea of
boundaries! She is also the boss around here, with never a snarl or a growl.
She's a very 'zen' kind of character! She's actually gone to sleep standing up
while she had to wait for me to have my obedience class and get on to her's
next. The whole class thought that was hilarious! Trouble is, she can also do
stuff like that in the trial ring. Only hilarious when it's not your dog.....

Greetings!
Along the line of the bitch puppy versus dog puppy in behaviors and guarding
instincts, I have story about the protectiveness of weim bitches toward their
people. When I was about three years old, my father brought home our first weim
bitch (mid-1950s; the dogs were really BIG then). She spent time in the house
with us, but mostly lived in the kennel and run in the back. I recall that at
one point, a year or two after she came home to us, that Mom had occasion to
spank me for some infraction I can't recall. What I can recall is the dog's
reaction.
She came through the kennel run fencing like it was spider web, and stood in
front of Mom, with me over her knee. Not a sound came out, but her lip was very
curled. They had a staring contest, and the dog won. I had a reprieve (until we
got back inside the house).
As soon as Mom's hand was lowered, the dog relaxed. No problems in the yard
afterward. In fact the dog went back into the kennel on her own, through the
hole in the fencing, and stayed there until Dad came home and fixed the fence.
Having such a devoted protector had its drawbacks, though. When she had puppies,
I had to stay out of the back yard for many weeks. She would leave her puppies
inside the kennel and stay outside keeping an eye on me for as long as she could
see me. Never mind how her puppies might have been crying, etc..
Obviously I have a strong opinion that the weim bitches can be extremely good
family protection, especially those that are most maternal. The breed has
changed some in its appearance over the years; their size is generally smaller
now, then it was common for a bitch to weigh 100 lb and still be in excellent
field condition. They were taller as well. As breed refinement has brought the
size down a bit, it is possible that some traits have become less common as
well.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but these are fun memories for me. OMG - I really am
getting old to be so self-indulgent.
Thanks for reading,

Hi Wendy H,
I have one of Jazmyn's LH litter brothers in Central Queensland. I can't say
that he is hyper, but like all puppies he has his moments and can drive you
crazy! I believe that bitches can sometimes be a little more demanding than
dogs. She will get better!!
