Hi everyone,
Kinsler finished our trialling season by gained his Jumping Dog title at a
Mackay trial two weeks ago (his title just turned up in the mail today)!
He has surprised alot of us as he's such a clown sometimes, however he has done
really well after a late start this season in agility, also gaining 2 agility
quals, 2 gambler quals and a snooker Qual.
A very chuffed,
Madonna

Welcome michelle, great to hear you are doing lots of things with the longhairs.
Saw an amusing thing with britty when I was in melbourne someone put a brittany
in one of big kcc park runs when someone was running 5 weis and brittany chased
them all off, I was amazed and scared that the 5 weis were going to gang up on
him.

Another Longhair owner here. I'll introduce myself - my name is Michele and I
live in Victoria and I currently own 2 LH bitches and my old girl of nearly 13
years - a Brittany). I am a sometime showy, but mainly do obedience, tracking
and currently training in agility with both the girls.
Looking forward to talking all things "hairy" with you all.

Hi Wendy,
Thanks. I suppose I shouldn't be taking the credit
as I was only the one lying around out in the paddock
not the one following along behind a dog....VBG.
Yes will track next year with Jaz.
At present intend going to Shepparton. Hadn't even thought
about it in relation to the Nationals. Mayne then we won't be going.

Congratulations to you and Saxon as well! Guess that will be two new LH
tracking champs next year. Will you start Jazmyn next season? I think
tracking is both the most fun, and the scariest thing I've ever done. Might
see you at Shepparton next year, but it is a bit close to the National.

Hi,
No the tracking season is finished here in Vic for the year.
Just as it was starting to warm up too...VBG.
Obviously time to finish for the year as a snake was seen
in the area that was being tracked yesterday, lucky not where we were.
And yes I will be starting off next year with Jazmyn.

Hi,
That is fantastic! Congratulations!!!
I had heard that you had started with Saxon, and I was forwarded a photo
of him and David during/at presentations, for their TD1. I was a bit slack
at emailing you.
I was very envious of the jumpers everyone had on. We were using ice packs
to cool some of the dogs down that weekend! And hoping we had a cool change
in the weather for our trial.
Do you have a chance to finish his title off this year?
Now I must run, late for work!
Cheers,
Madonna.
Give Jazmyn a cuddle for me, and Saxon of coarse!!

I saw some of your results on your web site! Well done, really nice to see the
LH's working well.
I gave up trying to keep up with Kinsler, lets face it they have 2 extra legs,
so we are working on him working ahead or out wide so I can take short cuts, if
the working dogs can do so can he. He is getting the hang of it, sometimes he
has a brain fade and thinks it's all over and he can go for a Sunday stroll.
He's still very much a big puppy. That's a bit of a laugh.
I see you have some impressive obedience titles with Ayela, do you guys have an
obedience champion title to work towards?

Thanks Wendy,
Congrats on the TD4!
For agility he needs 3 Q's in each at the novice level, and unfortunately the
end of Sept. is the end of our agility season in CQ until about March next year.
We have a couple of trials left this year.
And as for names, no definitely not naming a dog turbo, half way around his
track and after having by arms ripped out of my sockets several times, I decided
to call the next dog "slow wet week", or "plodder".

Woohooo! Well done! Don't some of those agility Q's give him a title in
something? Don't you already have 2 in several?? You should have called him
Turbo. LOL! Love his action pics on Dogz Online!
I did my T4 with Zed two weeks ago. I had some proplems with the older tracks
this season, but we got over it. She really nailed it this time, but we got to
the last turn, and she just missed it, and could not pick it up, but really
DIDN'T get any help from me! It was really hot in Sydney, and as it is still
cool down here (-2 the night before the track) she was really feeling the heat,
and me too. I had laid a T7 in even heavier country, and was knackered. Zed is
seven, it was knee to thigh high kikuyu, with weed heads in it, over your head.
I am not going to track this late in the season next year, certainly not with
any of the older dogs, and I am planning on starting Boss, who is 9, but has an
internal combustion engine, much like Kinsela! He is a LHC, do you think it
might be that LH gene?? LOL!
Congratulations, hope you are going to the National to show off those titles!

it right down. There is snow on the hill behind the Telstra Tower today. AND I
was out in it at a dog show! Several other crazy people were there, too, but
lots decided against it. BCC, RUBOB for Mad Morgan. Last week I had the three

twice. She may be from Sunny Queensland, but there's ice in them thar veins!
She was out a bit further than she thought at one stage, and the bottom went out
from under her feet. She swam back, but had eyes like saucers. Very funny!
Let us know how you get on with slowing him down. The Oz Tracking list is a

you get lots of help.

Thanks Wendy,
the link looks like what I did with him as a baby puppy, I will have a look at
the tracking group too.
A few of us have nutted out a bit of an attack plan, it appears that he is
starting to self-reward himself by tracking, so we are looking for a 'reward'
that is worth more to him than tracking...... Mind you he still steals all the
socks out of the dirty washing and struts around the back yard with them, or
dumps them in your lap when you are ignoring him and trying to type!!
We are having a Track & Search trial here in 2 weeks, might be able to get some
ideas there too.
Morgan sounds just like her sister! And Kinsler never does anything slowly
either, I think he is doing his best to live up to his name. He would love to

Hi all,
This is the link. This came from the OzTracking Yahoo group. VERY experienced
and helpful people on this list.
This method is positive reinforcement only, and makes for a happy dog. Might
help, you never know. Morgan is SUCH a chow hound, she's going to need cement
boots. Everything is done at breakneck speed, with ultimate enthusiasm! She's
mad, what a character! She went paddling in the dam the other day, got to the
edge, and sat down - in a foot of water! Twice!!! So much for her being from
Sunny Queensland, moving to freezing Canberra hasn't slowed her up in the least.
But then, I don't think Swine flu would slow her down!

Good on you Wendy and Lara,
About time these people took notice of the "Hairies"
Thanks Deb!
I have found such negative attitudes to Weis in general in Canberra. At our
club, one of the Instructors had a bitch, BYB, and she was the biggest flip
going, it seems. So everyone thinks that's what they are all like. There are so
few of them here, but an individual does not make a breed! There is an award
down here for dogs with their show Ch, who then get a CD (bronze medal), CDX
(silver medal) or UD (gold medal) Called a Dunbar award after one of the greats
in Obedience in the ACT. I said when I started going to the club, that I wanted
to be the first LH to get a Dunbar medal, and they laughed!
Gone are the days when they were considered almost human. My vet is also a Dobe
and ESS breeder, and Obedience judge, and when I said that one of my babies was
going into Obedience, he chuckled and said, 'Oh, if it's smart enough.' At
Tracking Training in Sydney, I was told by the trainer, that you might see
the very occasional Wei tracking, but you never see any good ones. Then he
followed behind Zed, and she did her usual corner (she goes straight ahead,
stops, basically pivots , and follows the next leg) and he says excitedly, 'Did
you see that corner?!' and I thought, Oh, but I thought you NEVER see any good
ones LOL!
But maybe there is reason that people don't see them as intelligent any more.
Our breed (hairy, but much more the non-hairy) has really suffered by people not
caring about anything else as much as the look of the dog. What's between the
ears has to count, too. When I see some of the things at shows, dogs that cower
in their crates, but are trained enough to at least let a judge go over it,
I can see why they are getting a reputation for being nothing but a show pony.
At Canberra Royal, I saw a young one that would not even let the judge examine
it, or move properly, get very highly awarded. There are SO many young ones here
now, that have very short sternums (no lung room) long in loin (weak backs) over
angulated in the back end (cross over side gaits that tire easily) and they are
WINNING! Take any of them out in the field for a day, and you'd carry them home.
In our standard, it mentions the Wei working ability so often, the description
of
the dog actually talks about work, not really what it looks like, and so you
would think that being build for work would be an important part of
judging, including being mentally fit, but it doesn't seem to be as important as
a dog that is trained to the highest degree (robot) and looks good on the
stack. It says in the standard three times that they must not be shy, but at
the NSW Wei Specialty last year (the one with the FCI judge) someone I know was
there watching. They are pet owners, but came along for a look. They were
watching the judging, and one said to me, 'Why don''t they like to be touched?'
I hadn't been taking notice, but started to really watch. It was the young
classes (SHs, I THINK) and dog after dog pulled away from the judge, and spun
around behind the handler. And I thought to myself, how bad must things be
getting, when a non-dog person notices it?
OK, had my rant for the day!

Subject: [Weimaraner_Longhaired] Longhair shows up GSPs and a Goldie. (LONG,
sorry!)
Hi all,
Just HAVE to tell you something funny from the weekend. The National Retrieving
and Field Trial Committee had their annual fight, I mean, MEETING in Canberra
last weekend. The Gundog committee cater for it ourselves, charge the ANKC, and
then put the $$ towards the Retrieving Nationals. So on Sunday I was on the
duty list, and the other two people and I took dogs to do some work in between
serving food. We have a Gundog Working Test comming up on August 1, in
conjunction with one of our Obedience Trials, and I haven't entered or seen one
before.
Â
GWTs are different in every State, and because the delegates to the Committee we
were feeding won't agree, there are no titles offered. They are supposed to be
working towards it, but I won't be holding my breath! Should have witheld lunch
until they got it sorted. The other committee members who were there are
much more experienced in this, one has Goldens, the one she is currently
working has his Novice Retrieving Dog title, and she has had a National Ch
before. The other member has GSP's that are up to CDX and UD in Obedience, and
one took out the Novice section in last years GWT. So altogether dogs and people
who know what they are doing. I had Lara LH with me who does love to retrieve,
maybe a little too much, as she has trouble waiting for the command in either
Obedience or with dummies. She only has her CCD, a level they put in under CD.
So both of us are rank amatures. GWT's are really gundog obedience. Heeling,
stays, drop on recall, and a
couple of retrieves of dummies out of a thrower is Novice. The Open also has a
double rise (they see one dummie launched, but not the second, so they have to
trust you when you say there's one out there) and a single blind where they
don't see it at all, and you direct them for that, too. That's how it goes in
New South Wales.
Â
First thing, the friend with the GSP's gets out a dummy covered in rabbit skin.
I showed it to Lara who grabbed it and would have loved to have taken it home.
The owner of it took it to her GSP's, and they wouldn't have a bar of it. She
made them take it, but if they were kids, their noses would have been screwed
up! I thought to myself that Lara was such a good girl! The one with the
Goldie was throwing the dummy just a little way out for Lara, and saying that I
needed to get her interested. Well, Lara only gets excited on the inside. She is
not a bouncing up and down kind a girl. She might look to others that she's not
interested, but to those who know her, you can tell when she is just beside
herself. Just on the inside.
Â
The GSP's got to go first, and were OK, but mucked about a bit. They were just
thowing by hand at first, and one throw went over the driveway. Dog ran around
the curve, but wouldn't cross it. "See that?" they said, "A change of terrain
and often the dog won't cross it." Dog was encouraged over to the place the
dummy landed, and eventually retrieved it. And we are talking VERY short grass
here. Basically just paint dirt green, and that's how much cover there was. It
was actually our dog show grounds car park.
Â
Next one to go was the Retrieving titled Goldie. He goes out, brings it back.
Next one went further out, but he wouldn't go past where the first one fell.
"See that?' they said, "Not unusual to see a dog only want to re work old
ground".
Â
So then it's first timers, Lara and Wendy. They throw, she retrieves. They throw
it past the old ground, Lara goes out, has a quick glance where the first one
fell, goes right on past, and retrieves it to hand. Hmm. Silence from the Goldie
owner!
Â
The next one they put pigeon wings on. Lara has never had feathers in her mouth,
and did not see or smell this before they threw it. She went out, passed the old
ground, picked it straight up, and retrieved it hand. Not even a second thought.
Â
They put the next one in the thrower. First time she hears or sees this thing,
it goes past the old ground and over the roadway. She goes out, past the old
ground, AND RIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD WITHOUT A PAUSE. Silence from the GSP owner,
too!
Â
Then we went down a hill, with the launcher at the top, so they could see the
dummies against the sky. As it was our first go, she doesn't know to look out
for it yet, and missed several of the launches. When the GSP's didn't see it,
they would go out in a small circle and then come back to their owner. We get up
there, Lara misses it, but I say FETCH, so she figures that I wouldn't send her
out for nothing, so off she goes, and brings it back every time! They were over
the hill anyway, so most were blinds.
Â
The 'helpful comments' from the others stopped pretty early on, when she kept
showing their dogs how it's done, purely on instinct and trust. When we got back
to serve lunch, a couple of the delegates, who must have been bored to tears,
came over and said they were watching the first part out of the window. One
commented that he had seen Lara and she looked really nice. He was a lab guy,
unusual for them to say anything nice about a Wei. No comment from anyone about
any of the other dogs.
Â
When we were leaving, I said to them, " The funny thing is, out of all my Weis,
Lara would have the least fire for this stuff. You should see some of them."Â Â
Â
The other two looked at each other.
Â
"Really?" , they said. You could see that really they were thinking, "Oh no
!!!!!"
Â
Ha Ha! Go the hairies!!!!!!

Hi all,
This is the link.

Ah ha! Article indication! This is what we are working on right now, and I have
just the BEST method that someone has put me onto. This has you NOT teaching the
article and the track together. There is a video link to a guy called Steve
(White??)'s site, and I think there's a sound track, but I don't have speakers
at the moment, but could still get it just fine. Will find the link and post it.
Basically you teach the dog to sit in front regularly, then link that to
touching an article. In about 15 mins today, I had Zed (the girl I am working
on) touching it in my hand, then on the floor, even when I threw it a few feet
away, and eventually right up the hall. And this girl has not done any obedience
yet, so has never been taught to 'Touch'. I will now add the sit, and then take
that out onto a track.
Zed doesn't pull, she's a tiny bit of a princess, and goes at a lovely,
dignified pace. Phantom and Boss I have not started until I know what I am doing
- I am afraid that I will get dragged around like a plow! I am actually going to
have some lessons with a trainer/judge who has GSDs. I figure she will have
experience with pullers. Will pass on anything I learn. I have heard of one Wei
in the past that they had to put the harness on upside down, with the tracking
lead under his stomach, and between his hind legs. I reckon that will be Boss!
Perhaps grass skis?? LOL
Will go and look for this link for you.

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for that!
No, there won't be a dual this season. I can't get to enough trials, and I am
starting to have a little trouble with slowing Kinsler down enough to find his
articles properly. At the moment he is hunting like crazy for them and can't see
them for looking! He does the same thing with his toys. It might just be a lack
of experience. If any one in the group has had a similar problem or suggestions
I would love to hear them.
I am looking forward to hearing how Morgan is doing!!

Hi everyone,
I am a little behind the times, but better late than never.
I am very pleased to say the Kinsler completed his Champion title earlier in the
year. And has recently completed his TD3 test, giving him his Tracking Dog
Title.
Cheers,
Madonna.

Shadow got best of breed today and minor in group. She got lots of nice comments
from 2 of the judges. Grady got runner up breed and mischka got reserve
challenge.
Shadow is from our surprise litter from Kimba and Gandalf. We had hoped to get
Kimmie pregnant to Atlas 2 years ago. Gandalf did the deed unbeknown to us
shortly before leaving for Canada. We have four pups in the ring from that
litter Grausturm Kimba Surprise owned by Annie Haverkamp who has already won
baby in show, Grausturm King Oth lions owned by Tamara Gregg both shorthairs and
2 longhairs: Grausturm Gandalfs Grey Gift (Thor) who has won several baby in
groups and Grausturm Grey Magic (Shadow). So we are very happy with them.
We took Gandalf to be collected before he left because he was such a lovely
substantial boy and he had the new american lines (Tri-d kennels) and the guy
who collected him said he was the most fertile dog he had ever tested, he filled
two test tubes!!! Gandalf sired two litters here before he left and has sired
two in Canada including four longhair boys so its all happening for them. He is
owned by Ward and Breezy Powell.
One of the judges I spoke with said he had seen a nice longhair in Vic that he
really liked so its great to see judges taking notice of the fur balls.
Cheers for now
