It was a chilly start to the day Sunday morning but the Sydney Half Marathon was set to warm things up. And fast. Present and accounted for were Brett, Richard, Jo, Suzie, Craig, Sam, Justin, Ben and Andrea.

As we waited for the start gun no one could miss us in our bright red Yahoo!7 uniforms. We looked like an enthusiastic red sea awash in, er, enthusiasm. 4991 other competitors packed us in on all sides.

When the gun fired we waited faster than any around us. We could tell by their anxious looks that they were intimidated by how expertly we waited. After a minute or two we started walking with the crowd toward the official start line. Things started to spread out within the first kilometre and we stuck together for the next few. Andrea however was off like a shot, never to be seen again until she crossed the line in first place amongst the yahoos. Ben, Brett & I found ourselves running in a little grouplette and wove through the crowd like 3 scarlet coloured weaving things, attracting cheers of encouragement from spectators. “Yahoo!” came the call at many points along the course. Ben and I tied. Craig finished strongly despite a pre-existing knee issue. Springy was simply unstoppable. Snoozy put in a fantastic effort too. Gainsey also excelled and posted a great time and showed true grit from start to finish. The Sam/Per combo trotted home just in time for a refreshing Gatorade and box of fruit.
