I am still missing the score from the Cloud 9 V Discombobulated game for

assume you gave us 10! On the spirit score side can JDR and Liam please
send me all of their spirit scores for the league, thanks boys.

http://www.fastmail.fm - I mean, what is it about a decent email service?
The QUDA T-shirts have been printed and for those that pre-ordered, ready to
be paid for & collected.
The majority of the orders came from YUFL players, so I will attempt to be
there on Monday night to sort out peoples orders.
Please bring money! - $20 per shirt.
Hopefully you can remember what you ordered.
Other people's pre-orders will be organised via email as to how to pay &
when & where to pick them up.
QUDA did get a few of most sizes extra, and so there will be the chance to
purchase if you didn't pre-order and are interested in them.
Tim.
Some of the people that had volunteered to stay for the week
are unable to make it so there is one spot left for anyone that would like to
hang with Jangles, Rowena, Sarah Sanford, Chris Cunliffe and myself. If Breakers
North are relaxed about extra people staying I will send an email out on Sunday
so that others can come down.
If anyone decides to come down for the day and can’t
find us my mobile number is 0401715105.
Regards
Dan

http://www.fastmail.fm - Or how I learned to stop worrying and
love email again
Hello all
There seems to be a little confusion about the next three weeks of
league (because of the way Yahoo Groups strips everything down from
HTML/RichText to plain text in emails) so here is what I have deciphered
from Jon's previous email about the next three weeks of league:
WEEK 1 (20th of November)
Bye - Quties
6:30 Game
Field One: Lovers V Dyspnoeics
Field Two: Red V Yellow
8:00 Game
Field One: Bermuda V Chimi
Field Two: Cloud 9 V Discomb
WEEK 2 (27th of November)
Bye - Discomb
6:30 Game
Field One: Lovers V Bermuda
Field Two: Cloud 9 V Yellow
8:00 Game
Field One: Dyspnoeics V QUTies
Field Two: Chimi V Red
WEEK 3 (4th of December)
Bye - Lovers
6:30 Game
Field One: QUTies V Chimi
Field Two: Red V Cloud 9
8:00 Game
Field One: Dyspnoeics V Bermuda
Field Two: Yellow V Discomb

Subject: Ladder and draw
Hi guys,
Last night marked the end of the round robin phase of YUFL
and the final ladder looks like this:
Team Won Lost Points Gls For Gls
Against Gl Diff
UQ Lovers 7 1 22 94
47 +47
Dyspnoeics 7 1 22 92
63 +29
Bermuda T 5 3 18 85
64 +21
QUTies 5 3 18 81
79 +2
Chimichangas 4 4 16 87
77 +10
Red Peppers 3 5 14 81
88 -7
Cloud 9 3 5 14 68
98 -30
Mellow Yellow 2 6 12 83
86 -3
Disc-ombobulated 0 8 8 38
107 -69
Congratulations to Lovers for finishing top of the ladder, in testament
to what training together as a team can achieve. Their stats are even
more impressive if you take into account that they lost their last game
by default 15-0. I'm not quite sure how Rena's system is working after
this, but I do know what the games are for the next 3 weeks:
18:30 20:00
Field 1 Field 2 Field 1
Field 2 Bye
Lovers V Dyspnoeics Red V Yellow Bermuda V Chimi Cloud
9 V Discomb QUTies
Lovers V Bermuda Cloud 9 V Yellow Dyspnoeics V QUTies
Chimi V Red Discomb
QUTies V Chimi Red V Cloud 9 Dyspnoeics V Bermuda
Yellow V Discomb Lovers
Following this there are the finals and hopefully Rena will be back to
sort those final games out. I can't give you a current standing for the
spirit scores as I do not have all the scores in yet. PLEASE FILL THESE
IN IN YOUR FOLDERS AND I WILL COLLECT THEM NEXT WEEK FROM THE TEAMS THAT
FORGOT LAST NIGHT. I should give a special mention to UQ who have
managed to not record a single result or spirit score for the whole
season - that's real commitment to being useless! Good luck for the
final rounds.

http://www.fastmail.fm - Does exactly what it says on the tin
Hi folks,
I just have a couple of admin issues that need to be
cleared up. Mostly these are about results, and the
missing results are:
Week 4: Chimichangas V Discombobulated
Week 5: Dyspnoeics V Chimichangas
Week 6: UQ Lovers V Chimichangas
Week 7: Discombobulated V UQ Lovers; QUTies V Cloud 9
Week 8: Discombobulated V Cloud 9; QUTies V Bermuda Triangle
Week 9: All results missing
There are also a boat load of spirit scores missing. The easiest way to
sort all of this out is if all captains/stand ins can make sure that
their sheets are up to date at the end of play this coming Monday, I
will collect all of the folders and update the details. This is also the
last chance teams have to ensure their players have paid BOTH the league
fee and the QUDA fee.
Any team which does not hand in their folders to me on Monday, has
results missing, spirit scores missing, or unpaid team members will
(reluctantly) receive the following penalties:
Missing folder = -10 spirit total
Missing score = forfeited match
Missing spirit score = discounted highest score from own total
Unpaid team member = -2 spirit score for team (per player) [This does
not include players paying on a weekly basis]
I know this all sounds a bit fascist, and it is, but I’m a reasonable
guy and any reasons for missing folders or details will be listened to.
I just want to sort everything out so we can organise the finals stage
more easily and that way nobody misses any weeks of play. Thanks for
your help with this. The games for this Monday are as follows:
Field 1 Field 2
18:30 Bermuda Triangle V Mellow Yellow Chimichangas V
Cloud 9
20:00 Discombobulated V Dyspnoeics Red Pepper* V UQ
leftovers + QUTies
* Win by default
All the best

Every so often I'll try to post a brief excerpt from the WFDF Rules of Ultimate (which
are the rules we play under here in Australia) to help players know and better understand the various rules of our great game (some will see these rules for the first time others will gain a better understanding of the rules they already know)
[Understanding the options you have available to you when a Throw-off lands out of bounds on the full]
404.05 Starting and Restarting Play
D. Throw-Off:
9. Whenever an untouched throw-off lands out-of-bounds, the receiving team may make the choice of
(i) putting the disc into play at the nearest point on the playing field proper to where the disc crossed the perimeter line,
(ii)requesting a "rethrow",
- Rethrow: To request a rethrow, any member of the receiving team shall fully extend one hand above his or her head and call, "Over." Once the rethrow signal is given, the original throw-off can no longer be put into play.
(iii)invoking the
"middle rule",
- Middle Rule: The receiving team may choose to put the disc in play halfway between the two side lines perpendicular to the point on the perimeter line where the disc went out-of-bounds. The receiver of the pull must indicate this by extending one hand over his or her head and calling "Middle," before picking the disc up. The player may then carry the disc to the appropriate place, touch it to the ground, call "Disc in play," and put the disc in play. If the disc crossed the perimeter line of the endzone that the receiving team is defending, the player invoking the "middle rule" must put the disc into play on the goal line.
(iv)invoking the "brick rule".
- Brick Rule: The receiving team may choose to put the disc in play halfway between the two side lines at a point 20 m upfield from the goal line which they are defending. The receiver of the pull must indicate this by extending one hand over his or her head and calling "Brick," before picking the disc up. The player may then carry the disc to the appropriate place, touch it to the ground, call, "Disc in play,", and put the disc in play.
Are there any Red Peppers, Disponeics, UQ Lovers, Chimichangas or
QUTies out there who want another game at 6:30pm tonight ?
The first 8 people to email me back are in !
Adilia
Sorry Liam, I didn't find your watch. Now that you mention, though, I lost a head torch the other week -- if anyone found that I'd love to get it back.

404.14 Positioning:
B. Avoiding Contact: It is always the responsibility of all players to avoid contact in any way possible.
Violent impact with legitimately- positioned opponents constitutes harmful endangerment, is a foul and must be strictly avoided.
404.13 Fouls:
E. Aggressive Behavior: Dangerously aggressive behavior or reckless disregard for the safety of fellow players shall constitute a foul.

Travelling (UK) [or traveling (USA)] is arguably one of the most hotly contested rule ..... but can it really be contested.... ;)
Found in about 4 different places in the Official WFDF Rules on Ultimate, and once in the rules clarifications, here are the relevant excerpts:
(I've decided to put them all here in one spot for completeness rather than send out 5 smaller Emails please take the time to read ALL parts about travelling)
404.10 The Thrower:
A. .... A defensive player who establishes possession of the disc becomes the thrower, but may not throw the disc before he or she establishes a legal pivot foot. To do so is a travelling violation.
B. Prior to releasing a throw, the thrower must establish a pivot foot and may not change that pivot foot until the throw is released except in the case of an offensive player who has just received a pass and is throwing before the third ground contact in accordance with 404.12(C).
404.12 The Receiver:
B. Bobbling: Bobbling to gain control of the disc is permitted, but purposeful, controlled bobbling to oneself in order to advance the disc is considered traveling and is not allowed. For purposes of this section, bobbling shall include tipping, delaying, guiding or brushing the disc.
C. Traveling: If the receiver is moving when he or she catches a pass, he or she shall be permitted the fewest number of steps required to come to a stop and establish a pivot foot. Further, a receiver who catches the disc while running or jumping may continue to run and throw a pass so long as the throw is released prior to the receiver making three contacts with the ground and that he or she makes no change in
direction or increase in speed during his or her tenure of possession. Violation of this section shall constitute traveling (see 404.16(C)).
404.16 Violations:
C. Traveling: Any journey by a player while in possession of the disc which is in violation of these rules constitutes a travel and is not permitted.
(1) At all times a thrower must keep allorpart of the pivot foot in contact with the single point on the field established as the pivot point. Whenever the thrower loses contact with that point, he or she has traveled.
(2) Whenever a receiver takes more steps than he or she requires to stop after catching a pass, that receiver has traveled.
(3) If a receiver, after receiving a pass on the run, releases a pass after making three ground contacts and before coming to a complete stop, that receiver has traveled.
(4) If a stall count is in progress and traveling is called, the stall count shall resume from the point of interruption or at "five" ("Stalling, six..."), whichever is lower.
(5) If the thrower releases a pass after being called for traveling and the pass is incomplete, the pass counts and results in a turnover. [editors note: see also 'play on' rule]
AFDA98.5 A travel may be called if a receiver makes three or more ground contacts before releasing the disc, not including any ground contact at the point of reception.(clarifies just when the three ground contacts start)
Hey all,
UQ is playing in the second time slot (8pm) on Monday night for
intermediate league, but I think I will be going over early to do some
sprints and throwing practice.
I think I'll be probably try to get there by 530 or 6 to do sprinting,
and then throw or pick up (or heckle!) during the first time slot.
If you're keen to join, let me know (e-mail or my mobile is 0404407705).
If you're on the UQ side of the river, maybe meet at the Dutton Park
ferry to walk over?
see ya tomorrow,
Farmer
Its always worth noting that Spirit of the Game is the first rule in the book!
Cheers,
jdr

(Section 404.17 Stoppage of Play)
B. Play Continuation Rule:
(1)If a foul, violation or pick is called while
the disc is in the air, play continues until possession of the disc is gained.
(2) If the team who would receive the benefit of the call gains possession as a result of a pass committed prioror during the time the call was made, play shall continue unhalted. It is the responsibility of the player who made the call to call out, "Play on," to indicate that this rule has been invoked.
(3)If the pass is completed and the foul, violation or pick
was called against the offense, the pass does not count and possession reverts back to the thrower, except as provided in 404.13 D (3). However, if the violation did not affect the defensive effort on the pass (e.g. a pick unrelated to the play), the defense should acknowledge this and play is resumed with a check where the pass was caught.

A fella in Adelaide has started a series of 'bite-sized' emails going over the rules. They've been good reading so far and the sandgropers seem to love them.
I spoke to Rena and figured it'd be useful to us all if I forwarded them on to the YUFL list as they came in.
There'll be a few in a row as we catch up.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the positive Emails and feedback on Ulti Rules 101
Here is a link to the complete set of Ultimate Rules, that many of you have requested/suggested:
I will continue to keep my Ulti Rules 101 posts brief so as to not take up too much of your time and so they can better be understood (without all the clutter
of the rest of the rules which can get quite confusing at times when you read the whole rules set)
