Folks,

A message from UQ's own Pete Allen: Pending field closures, there will
hopefully be pickup at UQ tomorrow night. I assume he'll send through
confirmation tomorrow when he hears - I believe they usually update
their fields information around 3pm, so check email tomorrow maybe after
4 if you're keen for a game.

Hey Frisbee Folk,

There will be pickup at Dorrington Park in Ashgrove this Sunday afternoon (June 1st), starting at 2 pm. Its open to everyone of any skill level.

We'll probably have a bar-b-q afterwards depending on numbers - BYO food and drinks. I'll arrange for a big Esky and some ice. There's a Coles nearby, so I'm sure food can be sorted out on the day if needed.

Please invite along anyone who might be interested. If we get enough people out, we can set up a couple of fields.

Be sure to bring a light and dark shirt and plenty of water and suncream.

Cheers,

Shawn

Ladies,

The registration for the women's development camp is closing this coming Sunday, 1st June. If you are keen and haven't registered, this is your last chance.

I would really encourage you to come along. If you've only played a few seasons of league and are keen to  extend your skill set and ulti knowledge, this is the place and time to do it.

If you need more information, email me asap.

If we get enough interest, there will also be a beginner's clinic on the Sunday afternoon from 1 - 3pm, running alongside the development camp. This will be run by the coach of the Australian Junior Women's team. This will be FREE - if you are interested, please register on the AFDA rego page. If you know someone for whom you think this clinic would be suitable, talk to them and get them to register.

Both the development camp and the beginner's clinic are fantastic opportunities for us in Brisbane. Don't miss out!!

Frisbee folk,

We held our inaugural interschool tournament last Saturday in a spirited contest with Mike Neild’s Kelvin Grove SHS “Disc Junkies” pitted against Spinner’s Mansfield SHS “Stranglers”.

The Junkies played savage and based a large part of their game on hucks and chase-downs. It was fascinating to see these guys – led by Bugg3r’s Reece Stewart – putting out hammers in warm-ups, yet several don’t even have a forehand.

Stranglers had a little more game time experience and clearly built their game plan on structure and short connections. While the Junkies had an early lead, I thought the Stranglers would catch up with the greater discipline, 4 subs and Spinner’s close order coaching....

But it wasn’t meant to be, as the Mansfield boyz were enticed into trying to emulate the Junkies and threw too much away – especially with the Junkies having aerial superiority.

The final score: Junkies 15, Stranglers 4. MVPs were Lewis Knox from KG, and Rashaun “Kamikaze” Hoh who constantly put his body on the line for his team.

A good time was had by all, and hopefully there’ll be a rematch (and hopefully fresh meat from Bray Park, Josh; or Holland Park Richard) in third term. All we need now is a group of these boys to take up the offer to represent Qld at the Youth Nationals in Sydney in July...

Cheers,

Bruce

PS – sorry, no photos....

Hey all,

Modesty made me think twice about posting this to all, but then it was on TV
Sunday morning, on youtube by lunchtime thanks to the ever awesome Dom, and then
a dude turned up to Monday night league tonight saying he'd seen Ultimate on TV
on the weekend and wanted to have a go ... so I figure its worth plugging.
Maybe forward to your friends etc.

Anyway, for those who missed it, Wide World of Sports sent a team to Nationals
in Coffs Harbour a month or so ago, and friendly Piers and I and others showed
them around.

Hey ladies,

If you are thinking about coming along for the Women's Development Camp at the end of June, you MUST register in the next couple of days.

If you are interested but unsure if it is appropriate for you, send me an email or give me a call 0423 579 041.

So far we have registered women ranging from relatively new players to those going to the World Championships later in the year - anyone who applies will be considered.

This is such a fantastic opportunity for us in Brisbane. It's not often we get access to coaches of this calibre who are there purely for us!

It's going to be a fantastic weekend and I'd encourage all of you to attend. Remember, QUDA is providing a $50 subsidy to all Qld women who attend so the camp will only cost you $150.

Go register. Now. Go.

That got your attention!

QUDA has agreed to provide a $50 subsidy to each Qld woman who attends the Women's Development Camp on the last weekend of June - ie. the camp will only cost you $150 instead of the publicised $200.

I can't stress enough what a good opportunity this is for Qld women. We will have some of the best ultimate coaches at our disposal for the weekend!

If you need more info, let me know. If not, go and register on the AFDA rego page!

Frisbee family,

At 9am on Saturday 25 May, you are invited to add your support to an interschool ultimate match between Mikey’s Marauders (Kelvin Grove High) and Spinner’s Stranglers (Mansfield High) to be held at Mansfield State High, cnr Broadwater and Ham Rds, Mansfield (field entrance off Ham Rd).

The boyz are pretty fired up, I’m told, so look forward to some rapid-fire ultimate.

If you can get down to the fields, it would be real good to see the Frisbee family supporting them and being there to throw some disc and generally show that there’s real people out there playing.

When: 9am Saturday 24 May (8 days away)

Where: Mansfield State High School, Ham and Broadwater Rds, Mansfield

Ladies,

Whether you are relatively new to ultimate or have been playing for a while, check out the email below.

In a nutshell, we are having a women's development camp here in Brisbane at the end of June. Some of the best ultimate coaches from around the country will be at our disposal for the weekend. It's an opportunity to learn from the best and is not to be missed!

If you are not sure if you meet all the requirements in the email below but are still interested, that's okay you will still be considered. Make sure you put down a player referee (someone reasonably experienced who is familiar with you and your playing skills) when you register on the AFDA site.

For those who are very new to the game, there is the possibility that a beginner's clinic will be run alongside the other on the Sunday. This has yet to be confirmed but if you can let me know if you would be interested in that, it would help.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

This is an amazing opportunity for us here in Brisbane. Let's make the most of it!!

pete

Hi all,

A fantastic new event will be running in Brisbane this winter…..

WHAT?

The inaugural National Womens’ Development Pathway Camp.

WHY?

The camp will aim to provide opportunities for intermediate and above players to come together for a weekend to improve their skills and knowledge of the game and meet and play with people from outside their region. We will have some fantastic coaches from around the country also involved.

WHO?

This camp is specifically for women from an intermediate standard through to women who may have just missed out on Australian selection this year. While we aim to be quite inclusive, this camp is not aimed at very new beginner players. We envisage players to have at least played a season or two of league and competed at a minimum of 1 Nationals (either Mixed or Womens). We will be looking at extending throwing and receiving skills, more advanced tactics and some Ultimate specific conditioning techniques. If you fit this bill and want to improve your Ultimate, meet more women from other regions and have a great weekend, read on…..

LOGISTICS?

When: June 28th / 29th

Where: Brisbane, Kalinga park fields

COST?

The AFDA will be funding the coaching costs, however attendance will be on a cost share basis, estimated to be about $200 inclusive of travel subsidy, food and t-shirt (note: depending on your flight times and time of booking the subsidy may not cover the entire travel costs). We will be looking to gain/utilize any grants or subsidies that we can to minimize costs. Accommodation will be at players expense, however, we hope to provide billeting with the Brisbane Ultimate community (thanks in advance guys!) to minimize accom costs.

REGISTRATION

Women wanting to attend please register via http://www.afda. com/rego/ showdivision. php?divisionid= 801 and fill in the details.

t-shirts: assume women’s sizing on the S/M/L thing

billets: let us know if you need one

player referee: please put in the name of an experienced player (male or female) that you have played with a lot…we just need this as we unfortunately don’t know everyone yet, and while we will be quite inclusive we do want to review applications to ensure maximum benefit for all

what you want to work on: list up to 3 things you really want included in the camp such as - break throws, hucking, pulling, MOM D, receiving high discs, strength training, etc, etc,

NOTE: Once you have registered we will contact you to confirm your attendance and then you should book your flight ASAP. Please don’t book flights until we confirm with you!

QUESTIONS?

Pop me or Piers a line…

Please forward this e-mail to all state lists, your league team etc.

Thanks for listening,

Nicole

Hey Guys,
Firstly, sorry if you get this twice.

I have played frisbee around Brisbane for the last 2 years, starting off a newbie who could only throw flicks progressing now to a seasoned slightly less newbie who can still only throw flicks. At the end of August, myself and three friends are going to do a charity walk of 100km- the Oxfam trail walker. The aim is to raise as much money as possible for Oxfam and to also challenge ones body. The walk will be a challenging one, we have set the goal of finishing the trail in under 24 hours. This will require mental energy and strength and your support aswell. If you can, can you please donate any amount to us. Every bit will help. I'll be around at YUFL, Uq league and BPL if you have any questions.

You can Donate by visiting the following site

Thanks
AJ

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder and clarification about the intervarsity and friends tourney coming up in just under 3 weeks. UQ will be entering 3 teams (hoepfully), QUT will have 1 team and Griffith will have 1 also, that leaves one spot open for a combined non-unis Brisbane team, I had interest shown from Plastic Scourgery initially, so if we could have confirmation of that, we would be grateful. (If UQ doesn't have enough for 3 teams we may look to have pickups on that team so stay tuned).

The day will have a BBQ Lunch, 5 games, music at the fields provided by the Regatta, and also the all important party and bar tab. All for just $20.

So stay tuned for final details and registration details once the teams are confirmed. Queries? Fire us an email at uqultimate@...
