Mellow yellow and Heros go through to the final with 4 wins each. Congrats to Kelvin Grove on third place.
DIV1:
Plastic scourgery go through undefeated with 4 wins.
UQ lovers, Dyspnoeics and UQ Playaz all had two wins so who went through needed to be calculated. All three had managed to beat each other to make it a truely honest three way tie. So the winner was calculated with for and against points like so:
UQ Playaz 5 for 13 against
Dyspnoeics 6 for 11 against congrats on third place!
UQ lovers 8 for 2 against - go though to the final.
EVERYONE ELSE: come along for some pickup, beer (limited due to the leagues losses this year) etc.
Last week of pool play. Next week will be finals and pickup. Being the last week make sure all your details are filled in on your score sheets and hand them to me. If you haven't filled in everything you will not be able to win spirit.
DIV 2 make sure you check your TIME as well as location. As we are missing the dark field (field 5) this week. I'll make an effort to get the lights on early. Mellow/Kelvin Grove this is a make or break game for you guys! When time goes that point is played out only. Unless it is a tie, which you can then play 1 more point only.
Thanks to everyone for paying your fees. I have confirmation for all except for UQ playaz (full $330) and Heros (the remaining $130). If you have put it into the bank thats great, i'm sure Adilia will let me know its in there soon. If not, get to it now or give me the cash tonight.

Attention Women,
It's nearly the end of the year! It's time to start thinking about
Ultimate in 2009.
Sultry is a Brisbane based Women's Club, we have set up a registration
page to get an indication of ANY women interested in joining the club
for 2009. We are trying to gauge who is interested in training /
playing / travelling to tournaments etc in 2009.
The biggest event on the calendar is the National Championships which
is in Perth 23-26 April. Regionals is in Brisbane on 14-15 March. This
is the qualifying tournament for Nationals it can be a bit of a
formality for the women as there are not many teams.
If you are keen to be part of Sultry in 2009 please register your
interest by the end of this week at (this isn't a strict cut off but
mainly so we don't have to keep spamming everyone!):
http://www.afda.com/rego/showcompetition.php?competitionid=564
We would like to invite players of all levels and experience to
register their interest, this is not a solid committment. If you are
curious, sign up and then you'll be able to find out more. =)
Let us know if you have any queries.
Maylin
On behalf of Sultry
This week we play week 4. BRING YOUR MONEY. $330 per team. So unless your captain has said otherwise bring $30 to give to them. Lets hope there is no more rain!
1 - there's been a change to the Sunday morning agenda, as several people wanted to go to both the League and Elite Development sessions.
So the Sunday 9.30am Sessions will be a) Leagues and b) AFDA/National;
and the Sunday 11.15am Sessions will be a) Elite Development and b) Disc Golf
2 - I have sent some further documents out to people who've told me they are coming, and to a few other suspects. However, if you are coming and you didn't get a pile of stuff emailed from me this morning, please let me know and I'll update you. If you're not coming but are curious, I'll ask that you leave it until next week (I've got a lot to do!)
3 - If you are there for the start on Saturday morning, we might end up lending a hand to the Annerley Juniors. The Annerley Fields have spent some time underwater this week, and a few days ago at least there was all sorts of debris on the fields. Hopefully its all been cleaned up, but if not we can lend a hand and prove our worth as tenants.
Thanks also to everyone who's gotten in touch with me and the various QUDA types during the week to give your 2c. It seems the rain has driven people to their keyboards or let them reflect on what they'd like to see in Queensland Ultimate in 2009. I hope to be able to report back some time next week.
Cheers,
Jason

About Queensland Ultimate Planning Weekend
Hi there,
Iâd like to invite you to the Queensland Ultimate Planning Weekend, to be held this weekend 22-23 November, at the Annerley Junior Soccer Clubhouse at Greenslopes.
What is it?
Each year in November, QUDA hosts a weekend for Queensland (and Northern NSW) based Ultimate (and Disc Golf) volunteer organisers to get together, share ideas, look back over the previous year, and do some planning for the following year.
Who Should Come?
*Anyone* who is interested in lending a hand to make our sport better, or at least in finding out whatâs going on and offering your ideas.
You might currently hold a position in your local group, Club, or Association. You might have helped lend a hand at a tournament or league.
Or you might just be interested in whatâs going on, and want to have a say in the future. We reckon the best way for people to lend a hand is by knowing where they can help.
Last year around 16 people attended the meeting held at Byron Bay â this year weâre expecting around 30 people.
Where and When?
This yearâs meeting will be held at the Annerley Junior Soccer Clubhouse at 98 Victoria Terrace, Greenslopes, on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November. This is next to the fields where BPL and BUML are played, and is about 5 minutes walk from the Greenslopes stop on the South East busway.
This year weâre trying a âsession-basedâ agenda, to allow people who canât commit to the whole weekend to come talk about particular areas that interest them.Have a look at the attached agenda.
The 2nd Annual QUDA Bash will be held at the same venue, from 6.30pm on the Saturday night.
What should I do beforehand?
1.Have a read of the Agenda and attached material.Maybe make some notes.
2.Let me know youâre coming, so we can cater properly. I'll also send you some more documents.
3.Let me or one of the session convenors know about anything youâd like to see addressed on the agenda or in a particular session.
4.Dream about the future of Ultimate in Queensland , and bring it along!
If you canât make it, youâre still welcome to contribute your ideas via other people or email.Just get in touch.
Next week will continue with week 4 to make up for the rain. We cannot extend the league however due to Dec holidays; so this means we there will be no semi/crossover (week 6). It will go straight from last pool game to the finals.
In addition we have a problem with field 5 from the 1st of december. So consequently this will mean two DIV2 games will be time split onto 1 field, each having 1 hour. When time goes play that point out only.

Heros- I've been told you also ow $70 from last league.
In my QUDA Executive Officer role I've been helping the UQ Ultimate Club in doing some strategic planning and looking at opportunities with UQ Sport.
One of the things that has become clear to me is the value of having people who work at the UQ St Lucia campus involved in "supporting" the Club.
I mean "supporting" as distinct from training for uni games or playing in the Wednesday night league or going to parties etc etc.
Its clear to me that UQ Sport are more amenable to dealing with sports that have 'workers' involved. Staff members can bring a more mature face to the table. Staff members can also bring a year-to-year continuity that the constantly changing student body can't. This continuity can be useful in doing a few annual/routine tasks, like booking fields or giving the student members a poke when something needs to be done.
Also, we're looking to persuade UQ Sport to help us grow Ultimate by offering the sport as a lunchtime/social sport in 2009. A big source of players for lunchtimes is people who work on campus. So it'll help if we can say there's quite a few of you.
Anyway, if you work at UQ St Lucia (or will be in 2009), please get in touch (obligation free!)
Just a quick one to note some changes in Queensland Ultimate Disc Association (QUDA) positions. QUDA is the governing body for flying disc sports in Queensland.
The QUDA Management Committee are very pleased to welcome aboard Rob Lowe and Molly Young.
Rob will become the new QUDA Treasurer, a role being vacated by Peta McNaughton. Peta will become a General Member of the Management Committee.
Molly will become the new QUDA Co-Secretary, a role being vacated by Bruce McNaughton. Bruce will become a General Member of the Management Committee, while retaining his Youth Coordinator role.
On behalf of the Committee, I congratulate Rob and Molly for stepping up, and particularly thank Bruce and Peta for their massive efforts in a number of formal roles over the last few years (we're pleased and impressed they're continuing to be involved!)
Please buy them a beer when you see them. Seriously. You owe them at least a beer!
QUDA also continues to hunt for a President. As you can see, you'll have a strong team to work with, including an Executive Officer to do the work you can't get to. Could this be you?
QUDA's current positions and position holders are listed below. No doubt there will be further discussion and renewal at the Queensland Ultimate Planning Weekend, this weekend.
Cheers,
Jason de Rooy

The AFDA is planning to mail out a magazine about Australian Ultimate to everyone who's played a league or tournament over the last six months or so.
To receive it you need to
- to be sure your postal address on the AFDA database is right
- have clicked on the box that says you want to receive it
Woody has provided directions below. He's also ready to help people who've misplaced their AFDA numbers and/or passwords. Got to http://www.afda.com/passwordforgotten.php for help.
While you're at it, you might also want to check your details, particularly your current email address. Lots of Leagues and Tournaments are now using the email address stored on the AFDA database, rather than the yahoogroups lists to share info.
Cheers,
Jason

This means you need to update your address on the AFDA website
Go to
Membership - Edit My details
Check address is correct (mail and email)
If you wish to receive a paper copy - tick the box just above the email
You need to have this done by the 30th Novemeber as the list will be sent to the printer on 1 December.
Administrators, please forward this to your State lists.
Sorry about the spam and apologies to those who get this several times.
Hopefully many of you will be at the QUDA meeting both Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend. But for those who will not be there, I don't know your reasons but maybe interested in this:
This is about a trade system that works with no cash involved...it' s awesome!! I became member recently and had my first transaction on Thursday. Have a look at the brochure and you'll understand a bit more of what I'm talking about.
For those who are interested but are non-members yet, don't worry about the units amount, you would only be required to pay the cash part of it.
I know I said there is no cash involved in the system but organizing a conference means vehicles, food and that sort of stuff which means
money.
When: Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd November, 2008
Where: AHIMSA House, 26 Horan St, West End
Cost: $45 + 45 Units per person for the two days. Includes lunch and afternoon tea. Day
passes; Saturday ($25 + U25) Sunday ($20 + U20). No need to fill in a
registration form, just let us know in advance if you plan on coming so
we can make sure we have enough food for everyone. Remember, you will
be fed lunch and dinner on Sat and lunch on Sun as well as morning and afternoon teas.
MONEY
AS DEBT - a 50 minute animated documentary will be screened several
times over the weekend. Highly recommended explanation of our perverse
money system (also on UTube).
Richard Sanders' presentation "Liquidating Natural Capital". He's an ecological economist, futurist, and environmental scientist and will be explaining why present world order economic systems are unsustainable and the role of complementary currency systems.
Many other conferences of Local
Trade Systems working around Australia. There is one of those systems that have just made a 1.000.000 units transaction! !!

Just a note of clarification:
you don’t have to be a qualified coach, but you do have to have a

Hey ultimate coaches,
QUDA has been asked if we want to put something together for
Redcliffe’s Summer Rage Holiday Program. The program is aimed at youth 6-17yrs
of age and runs from the 12th -16th January, 2009. They have invited us to run
a (1hr) session of ultimate disc on Tuesday 13th January, 2009. This could be
on turf or Suttons Beach.
This seems like an opportunity for our aspiring new coaches,
esp if you get some mentoring from some older hands... If you are interested,
let me know.
This would be a paid gig, and we will control the numbers of
ppl you would be confronted with. We can arrange it so there’s at least two so
you don’t have to go it alone.
Pls let me know if you’re interested.
You will need to have a blue card. QUDA can provide cones, discs,
etc.

Captains don't forget your folders - give to me at the end of the night. I'll be on field 4. But you can leave them near the entrance on field 1 if you need. Don't forget to fill in the spirit score and MVP's.
As usual if you are listed first you need to set the field. The other team brings the cones in.
So it's a third of the way through Movember, another 20 days to

For those that haven't received one of these emails I'm raising
money for research into Prostate Cancer and Depression, by allowing some hair
to grow under my noise and make me look like a goose :)
To give you an update on my progress I've attached a
mugshot …. as you can see I need ALL the help I can get !!!
So ANY and ALL donations are very much appreciated, whether $2, $5, or
$50, every little bit helps!
Here's a bit of info on the initiative, and instructions on how
you can help to improve my tally!
Write a cheque

Remember, all donations over $2
are tax deductible.
The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues
and donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression
initiative. The PCFA and beyondblue
will use the funds to fund research and increase support networks for those men
who suffer from prostate cancer and depression.
Did you know:
Depression affects
1 in 6 men....most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk
factor for suicide.
Last year in
Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than
2,900 died of prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who will
die from breast cancer annually.
For those that have supported Movember in
previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out
the details at: [ Fundraising Outcomes ].
Movember is proud partners with the

Exhausted but happy, seemed to be the phrase on everyoneâs lips at the end of Brisbaneâs hosting of the 2008 Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships.AMUC is one of the biggest events on the national calendar, and it looks like we did it pretty well.
Cheers to everyone who helped out in some way â big and small - but of course we should recognise the people who didnât play and instead put in over the weekend â Peta McNaughton, Emily Goldstiver, Amy Thurber, Adilia Murabito, Karin Weirsma and of course Bruce McNaughton.
Congratulations too to the teams on the field â Great!Sugoi led the charge for Queensland, closely followed by Mind the Gap, the UQ Lovers, the Hand of God and the Lounge Lizards. The main goal for hosting AMUC in Brisbane was to make sure as many locals got a run at such a big event, and we certainly succeeded at that!

1) We are keen to get some discs for the league next season. So we are after someone to design something awsome for Brisbane Ultimate Mixed League. Submit your ideas/designs now. Preferably limit to 2 colours if you can.
2) Everyone needs to make sure they are signed up on the afda site, otherwise you are not covered for insurance: http://www.afda.com/rego/showdivision.php?divisionid=918
3) Team fees will be $330 for the season. Captains you will need to collect this from your team and give to me asap, Payment is required in 2 weeks (week 4). If you have not paid me before game starts week 5 you will forfeit the game.
Apologies for the delay, we are having trouble getting prices for the fields, so we went with worse case scenario. I will not
accept partial payments. How much an individual pays is to be determined by your captain, you need to discuss with them partial payments for half season, or injuries. Captains i recommend you collect a little more from everyone to cover yourself from this-and put it towards team stuff at the end, or the next season if there is surplus. Since all teams have more than 11 players easy just to collect $30 off everyone and you'll be covered.
4) MAKE SURE YOU HAND ME YOUR FOLDERS FILLED IN AT END OF EACH NIGHT
Hey Ladies,
Despite the wet weather going around, tonight's Women's Skills session
is still on. Come down, bring a towel just in case we do get stuck in
to it in the rain!
See you at 7pm, Oakman Park, Toowong.
Cheers,
Maylin
