Description

Welcome to the Astronomical Society of Victoria - Radio Astronomy Section,
Here you will find a small group of blokes with a keen desire to study the Heavens through the that branch of Astronomy we call Radio.

From VLF Solar Radio Astronomy to Decametric Emissions from Jupiter, to receiving the Galactic Center at VHF Frequencies to the Detection of the Hydrogen Line at 1.4GHz, Blackbody Radiation from the Moon to detection of Telemetry signals transmitted from NASA/ESA Space probes operating in the 8.4GHz Band on to the ultimate detection of Radio Pulsars.

The Observatory will run 24/7 with a 'SAM' Magnetometer and a Cosmic Ray Detector as part of the suite of experiments we plan to operate including an all skycam. Apart from LMRO there are many other Jovian Radio Observatories running around the world, these stations can be viewed On-Line using the Radio-SkyPipe Server in 'near Real Time' and with the use of Jovian Storm Predication Program one can observe Jupiter Synchrotron/Cyclotron Maser Activity.
During the day Solar Flare's (CME's) can be detected with dramatic results. Currently we are building a Faraday Cage within the shipping container at LMRO, Oct 2011. New 1.4GHz Feed Horn nearly complete.

There is a regular Friday Night Net on 3.541MHz at 22:00 EST ASV Call Sign VK3EKH....Russell Ward VK3DRW has been station operator for 20 years, he is now taking a well earned rest. More station information can be found at www.qrz.com/db/vk3ekh

A dedicated web page for the Leon Mow Dark Sky Radio Observatory at http://www.lmdsro.com known as just LMRO.

Email to VK3EKH, and or about this site, Signal Reports and information pertaining to the ASV Broadcast to vk3ekh@bigpond.com thank you.
ATTENTION - Russell VK3DRW will be conducting the ASV Broadcasts until my station is up and running, please welcome back Russell to the Microphone...Clint 20/3/11
