Hi All
I'm flying into Perth on Saturday night (domestically - with Virgin)
before heading out for the next five weeks onto the Bib track. I call
on the collective wisdom assembled to guide me on two questions -
1. Does anyone have the inside information as to the requirements and
expectations of Western Australian Customs/Quarantine for bringing
food with me. After slaving over a hot dehydrator for the past week
the last thing I want to happen is to have to donate all my supplies
to an inquisitive beagle and its handler. I'm planning on bringing a
variety of fruits/veges/meat/meals (all fully dehydrated) and sealed
in zip-lock bags. I know that while you are not permitted to bring
food with you (I've seen the afore-mentioned beagles sniff out apples
and sandwiches from new arrivals' bags) I've also been told that
dehydrated food should be OK. However it would be great to get some
confirmation on that.
2. Secondly, since I can't carry gas canisters for my stove with me
on the flight, I'm looking for the expertise of those with local
knowledge on where I might be able to pick up a couple in Perth on
Sunday morning. The stove is just a standard cheapie which requires
regular resealable gas canisters (I can dig it out if further details
are required) (and yes, I do have a Trangia but do prefer this little
stove!!!.) I'm catching the train at 9.30 and continuing on to
Walpole in the afternoon so there's not much time to find anything.
Do the City camping shops open on Sunday? If so, are they open by
that time? If Perth is unavailable there's a half-hour break on the
bus at Manjimup at lunchtime - would there be anything available
there within reach of the Visitor Centre? As I recall, all of the
other stops on the bus are only for a moment for pick-ups, but
perhaps someone might have some idea as to whether I might have time
to race over to the local store at some of these halts.
It's great to have a resource such as this group with such a variety
of backgrounds and expertise to call upon. I look forward to learning
from your advice.
Many thanks
Tom
