We can recommend the Sea to Summit Quagmire canvas gaiters. Have used them
for the past 3 years in prickly scrub and just recently the Kokoda track in
PNG where there was plenty of mud. They stood up really well.
The Velcro strip at the front allows you to open up the front to cool down
when resting without removing the whole gaiter and the Velcro is still as
strong today as when we bought them.

Hello Geraldine,
What you want are gaiters that have replaced zips with thick strips of
Velcro so that you do not collect grass seeds in the zips.
The other thing you want is water protection, durability and breathability.
You would be looking at high quality nylons and Gore-Tex type fabrics.
I recently purchased a pair of Sea to Summit Quagmire Gore-Tex gaiters and
they worked very well in the prickly Parrot Bush that we get.
I think Sea to Summit sell in the UK. They are Australian but they do export
overseas.
Conversely, you can purchase them when you get here.
Look at the following:

Subject: [Aushiker] Gaiters
Can anyone help out here, recommending a brand of gaiter? I am after a
heavy duty high pair that I can use in all seasons and primarily for
Australian 'prickly' bushwalking, wet mud and of course snakes. Am I
asking too much in one type?
I have looked at the backpackgeartest site but they don't seem to have
the brands shops here stock.
Any help greatly appreciated.
