Hi

For those interested I am in the process of finalising details of my May
weekend backpack for the Perth Bushwalkers Club. The walk will take place
on May 31 - June 1, 2003 (long weekend). The walk descriptions follows:

WHITE HORSE HILLS ROUNDUP 31 + 530 Andrew Priest

This medium paced weekend backpack will be 74% on-track. The first day
commences with a warm-up on-track climb of Boonerring Hill (180 m) followed
by an off-track decent of Boonerring Hill to the foot of White Horse Hills
where we pick-up a track to skirt south around the base of the hills. To
finish off the day, we once again head off-track to climb Kimerberling Hill
(200 m) before walking another 500 metres to the Bibbulmun Track campsite,
White Horse Hills, our 5-star overnight accommodation. The first day is
approximately 14.50 km with 380 metres of climb. On Sunday, we break camp
early, to once again head-off track as we descend the White Horse Hills in
a north-west direction, before swinging north-east to pick-up a
track. From here we stay on track, including a revisit of Boonerring Hill
(150 m) before returning to the cars. The second day is 16 km with 200
metres of climb. Expect some challenges, some prickly bush, some rock
scrambling, some spectacular views, a creek crossing or two and good
company around the fire. If you have done an introductory backpack or
maybe one of John Gaske's great social backpacks and/or you are looking for
a weekend backpack with a bit more bite then is the one for you. Andrew
rates this backpack as a medium. Expect an late afternoon/early evening
return to Perth. Places will be limited to nine. Expression of interest
to Andrew via email at aushiker@.... Please contact Andrew ASAP,
as the walk is expected to fill very quickly.

For the remainder of the season. That is until I commence my Bibbulmun
Track end-to-end in August, the following two walks are scheduled:

June 14 AND June 28 - 29, 2003. Introductory Backpack. This will be in
two parts. What to carry/how to pack session on June 14 followed by an
on-track tenting camping walk in the Murray Valley on June 28-29,
2003. This walk is only available to Perth Bushwalkers Club members and
numbers will be limited. Experience walkers, interesting in assisting are
welcome to contact me to discuss how you can help out!

July 26 - 27, 2003 - Julimar Brook Meander. This is a 40 km weekend walk
in Julimar Brook Conservation Park north of Perth. It will be
substantially off-track, walking through lots of Wandoo and lots of
Dryandra. Will camp besides the Julimar Brook. This is a revisit of an
area walked last year. Some off-track pack carry experience is required
for this walk.

Regards
Andrew
