Hello Tony and fellow Aushiker people.
Wild has already been down that road.
Issue 82 (Oct-Dec 2001) pages 36-39.
Article: The Quest.
They found it and Wild printed the article and the photos of the trees by
the anonymous author, especially the solitary giant known as "King Billy".
In issues 83 and 84 Wild was attacked by vested interest in the "Wildfire"
section (Letters to the Editor).
Wild's position is that it does not agree with everything even though the
articles represent the views of the authors.
Wild did not consider that publication of the article would encourage others
to try to locate and visit the wild pines. (A direct quote).
Wild will not publish material that they think might lead to the environment
being damaged.
Judging by the article in Wild and the Outdoor Australian, it is not a trip
for the faint hearted.
Perhaps Roger can add his 2 cents worth as he hikes in this area from time
to time.
Regarding the new format:
I am happy with the new layout but the Gear Reviews are still a bit skinny
on.
There is no mention as to the locations in NSW or the type of weather
experienced combined with temperature, humidity, dew point and wind speed.
All factors relating to condensation and stability.
Did the fabric sag or stretch?
Did the tents/shelters have to be guyed out?
What is the minimum tent pegs needed in good weather?
What types of poles are they:- Aluminium or Carbon?
What type of fly material each tent has:- Silynylon, nylon or polyester.
Some of that information was available for the top 8 but the rest had no
information.
My 2 cents worth.
May 2007 be a great year for getting out on the walking tracks and/or off
track walking.
Enjoy everyone with abundant good health.
Best
Ralph

I'm looking forward to reading the 11-page feature on finding the
Wollemi pine. That should drive those greenie, tree-hugging enviro-nazis
at Wild into a positive froth of self-righteous rage!
Happy new year's walking to all,
Tony Dyson
