PBW: March 16 - 18, 2007 Weekend Backpack   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2500 of 3616 |
G'day

Time to get into some serious walking again.
Details below of my first "serious" backpack of
the year. Well okay not that serious but it may
include a pack swim so a bit of a fun to be
had. As per normal, whilst this is a Perth
Bushwalkers Club walk, I am okay with taking
suitably experienced non-club members on the
walk. The normal $5.00 visitors fee will apply. Walk details follow:

MARCH 16 – 18 – GIANTS ON THE FRANKLAND – 30 KM + 150 M

It is time to dust off those walking boots and
get into the first “serious” pack-carry for the
season. This backpack will be a 95% on-track
affair with the possibility of a pack swim of the
Frankland River. Will depend on water levels,
crossing conditions and if we can put in about
500 metres in the karri country. That’s right
this is a walk in the beautiful karri country
just out of Walpole. For those interested there
will even be an opportunity to walk amongst the
tree tops on Sunday. The plan is head down south
on Friday night. We will have a 2 km night walk
into our campsite for the night (Giants campsite
on the Bibbulmun Track). Saturday will be an all
day affair exploring the area to the east of
Walpole. We will be walking mainly on sections of
the Bibbulmun Track and other tracks in the area
(~ 18 km) to our camp for the night at Frankland
River campsite (considered one of the best
campsites on the Track).. Sunday will be a
leisurely stroll of about 12 km back to the cars
on the Bibbulmun Track. This will allow time for
a tree-top walk before heading back to Perth. I
would expect us back in Perth early Sunday
evening. Interested walkers need to be
comfortable with a short pack swim. If you want
more details on what this involves please do
contact Andrew. Overall Andrew rates this as a
medium pack carry. To book a place please email
Andrew at <mailto:Andrew@...>Andrew@....

Regards
Andrew
