Bibbulmun Track Update:> Temporary Realignment from Sullivan Rock to   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #305 of 3618 |
Hi

The following is from the CALM Bibbulmun Track new service. It applies to
the Monadnocks to Gringer Campsites section:

"There is no water at the new temporary campsite. Also be careful when
crossing the Albany Hwy, there is currently 'No Hiker Crossing' signs in
place along the Albany Hwy for the moment.Due to a wildfire in the
Monadnocks Conservation Park, a 24km section of the Track south from
Sullivan Rock (section 10) through to Cowcher Rd (section 13) north of the
Gringer Creek campsite has been closed. The wildfire burnt out two
campsites - Mt Cooke and Nerang. This section is likely to remain closed
for the winter period.Walkers can divert down the temporary diversion from
Sullivan rock to Cowcher Rd. This temporary alignment is between the
Monadnocks campsite and the Gringer Creek campsite, which is approximately
40km (which is 2km shorter then the original alignment).

The new alignment: For South Bound Walkers - around 100m after the boot
cleaning station (7km from the Monadnocks! campsite), turn right and walk
for 600m over Sullivan Rock. Carefully cross Albany Hwy to Sullivan Rock
picnic area. From here, follow the golden Bibbulmun Track markers along the
new alignment for around 13km until you reach the temporary campsite.
Continue along the track (approx. 9km), then cross back over Albany Hwy at
the junction of Albany Hwy and Pike Rd. Walk along Pike road for approx.
2.5km, then turn right and follow the track for a further 6km to where you
reach the original alignment.North Bound Walkers - once on Cowcher Rd
(10.3km from Gringer Creek campsite), continue along Cowcher Rd for 1km and
then turn right. Follow the golden Bibbulmun Track markers along the new
alignment for 6km until you reach Pike Rd. Turn left and walk for approx.
2.5km along Pike Rd. Carefully cross over Albany Hwy and follow trail for
9km until you reach the temporary campsite. From here walk a further 13km
until you reach the Sullivan Rock picnic area. Cross Albany Hwy and follow
the trail for 600m over Sullivan Rock, then turn on to original Track. One
temporary campsite with toilet, table and tent sites are available."

I have emailed CALM for the latest information on water availability or
nearest road access for water drops. Pending their reply, does anyone have
any additional information on this campsite? Location? Water availability?

Regards
Andrew
