I don't use an EPIRB only because of the weight, I guess if you were doing
lots of solo hiking it would be a must

+ 1 on Fixomull. You can often it by the metre from chemists.

I also ALLWAYS carry an EPIRB. I do this on my own walks and on group walks.

We also carry a large amount of fixomull tape - which we usually give away
to others that need it. (really good for blisters - feet, waist, shoulders
etc)
