RE: [Aushiker] Re: new member

Julie,

Most of the people on this forum have more experience that me but here is some
information: The guy that runs the backpackers in Walpole also drives the local
taxi. His phone number is on the Bibbulmun Track website
http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/trip-planner/Track-Towns/Walpole.aspx. You can
ask him how much he would charge. I have stayed there (very basic, but clean)
and used the taxi. Next door is more fancy, but I cant remember what it was
called.

Do you have any Bibbulmun track maps yet ? You can get them online The guide
books are great and can also be obtained online. They are 'no fire' sections of
the track, so you must use a fuel stove for the whole hike. I presume you will
need to stay in Walpole and Peaceful Bay during you trip. Check the Bibbulmun
wesbite for accomodation options. You get to Walpole via train from Perth to
Bunbury then bus to Walpole
http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au/portals/0/resources/timetables/GS3.pdfIt is much
quicker to drive, but the public transport is relaxing. I usually treat the tank
water with Puri-tabs, but as Mark and other say, he has drank form them. You may
need to strain mosquitoes from the water (using stocking or some other
material).
As for weather, the BOM
(http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_009637.shtml) has all the
statistics you need, but this website has an easy to read graph
http://www.john.chapman.name/wa-bibwd.html

Be very careful when on the beach as the Southern Ocean can have some BIG waves
and you don't want to drown!!

Check the Bibbulmun website for track
conditions(http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/track-info/Track-Conditions.aspx)
and diversions. Contact the local CALM offices for the most up to date
information.

Regards,

Peter

Thanks Andrew, we arrive in Perth on May 2nd. Maybe posting the food to Peaceful
Bay will be best, or is there a taxi service that could take it there once we
arrive in Walpole?Julie----- Original Message ----- From: Andrew (not Kiwi) To:

Walpole for walkers heading south (Walpole to Denmark is a walk of 126.6km which
takes approximately five or six days, six or seven nights), Peaceful Bay is a
popular intermediate starting point. Peaceful Bay and Walpole are 61.4kms apart,
a distance usually walked in three or four days, two or three nights. > How many
