Hi Kirsty
Please find my comments on what I encountered during this section of
my end to end. This email is also being forwarded to the Bibbulmun
Track Foundation, the Yahoo! group: Aushiker
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aushiker>; and the Yahoo! group:
Bibbulmun Track Club
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bibbulmuntrackclub>;
so some comments may not be applicable.
I have also dated each section so that you have an idea of the
currency of the information.
As always, the comments just focus on the things potentially needing
attention and may sound negative. This is not my intention. Overall I
am very impressed with the efforts of CALM Albany and the
volunteers.
ALL tree fell comments relate to tree fells across the track which
required either climbing over or going "bush" to get around. Tree
fells that could be stepped over are not reported.
All distances are from the quidebook heading in a southly direction
and represent a point in the track.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2003 - DENMARK TO NULLAKI
(1) Track in good condition. Campsite in great condition. Well looked
after. The woodchips are much appreciated. A few nails on the beams
away from the sleeping platform would be nice.
(2) Mosquitos are REALLY bad here.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2003 - NULLAKI TO WEST CAPE HOWE
(1) Track and campsite in excellent condition. Broom missing from
campsite.
OCTOBER 1, 2003 - WEST CAPE HOWE TO TORBAY
(1) Track in excellent condition; Dunny is FULL; Register is getting
full.
OCTOBER 2, 2003 - TORBAY TO HIDDEN VALLEY
(1) Track in good condition; campsite well looked after.
(2) Torbay Inlet was NOT crossable on the mornin of October 2, 2003.
Comments in register reflect numerous days since June when Inlet was
NOT crossable. The current guidebook does NOT reflect reality. Also
the alternative route needs to be given in the guidebook and/or on
the web.
OCTOBER 3, 2003 - HIDDEN VALLEY TO ALBANY
(1) Track in excellent condition between the campsite and Albany
Woolstores. Well marked.
(2) At 16.3 km point, as per the guidebook, the left turn across the
drain is not clearly marked.
(3) At 16.8 km to 17.7 km points (walk trail) is getting overgrown
and needs prunning.
(4) At 19.2 km point (railway line) to Southern Terminus there is a
need for some additional Waugals. The "Track" here is not clear.
Thats it for me for the time being. One End to End finished :-)
Cheers
Andrew
