Bubblegum Sojurn Update - Denmark to Albany   Message List

Hi Everyone

Last generic email .... well as you can probably guess ... made
ALBANY! So now completed one End to Ender sucessfully.

Been a nice final weeks walking with Alan and Jane. Had real lousy
weather on Monday when we left Denmark ... walked in heavy rain that
day. Due to the weather we stayed over at Nullaki campsite and had
to share the campsite with the resident mosquitos ... this campsite
is downtown Mozzievile!

The next couple of days through to Torbay where uneventful. Good
weather, nice walking conditions and quite nice views. IMO not as
good as the Cape to Cape in terms of coastal views, but still good.

We even saw a drying seal at Shelley Beach. Really sad, but that is
nature.

The penultimate day was a diaster waiting to happen! Torbay Inlet
was far from crossable and a major drama! Nothing like what is
suggested in the guidebook that is for sure! I attempted to cross
ahead of the others twice, once at the mouth and once about 100
metres up the channel. At the mouth the water got to chest high,
which combined with the current, made it uncrossable. In fact I
nearly got pushed over and would have had to drop my pack. Was hairy
I can tell you! Upstream was no better ... just took less of a risk
testing the conditions.

We then decided to have a go at walking around the inlet rather than
doing the 15 km road bash. Well that turned out to a diaster as
well. Started out ok, and then we hit the swamp and another very
difficult to cross river feeding into the inlet. At that point we
abandoned this attempt and headed out to a nearby road. All up spent
about 3 hours on this attempted circumnavigation to end about 1 km up
the road from out starting point!

Thankfully not long after starting our road bash, we managed to get a
lift around the road section. If we hadn't we where looking at
walking about 21 km into camp and getting in around 8:00 PM at the
earliest!

Lesson learnt. If you can't cross, just bite the bullet and get on
with the road bash.

The final day, on the other hand was a very pleasant and scenic walk
into Albany, finishing the sojurn at 1:30 PM on Friday.

Back to reality on Sunday :-(

Bueno camino

Andrew
