Hi
CALM have advised (December 12, 2003) that the Bibbulmun Track is being
diverted around the Mt Clare campsite due to a prescribe burn. As a result
the Mt Clare Campsite has been closed and an alternative campsite has been
arranged. The diversion will add an additional 4km walk between campsites.
The diversion is likely to be in place for at least a month.
Northbound walkers: the Track will now turn onto Tinglewood Road (approx 9k
from Walpole) continue along this road till you reach Shedley Drive to
where it will meet up with the original alignment.
Southbound walkers: The Track will now turn east just after the Deep River
Bridge (approx 11km from Long Point Campsite) and head along Shedley Drive.
Continue along this road until it reaches Tinglewood Road to where it will
meet up with the original alignment.
The alternative campsite is located approximately 400m north of the John
'Jack' Rate lookout (which is approx. 4km south of the Mt Clare campsite).
The campsite will have toilet, drinking water and level ground for tents.
For those walkers who want to carry on to Walpole it is approx. 5km from
John Rate lookout to Walpole.
Please exercise extreme caution when using the public roads, as the speed
limit in the area is 90km/hr.
Please contact CALM Walpole office
<http://www.naturebase.net/calm_offices.html#southern_forest> and ask to
speak to the Fire Duty Officer for further information.
Regards
Andrew
