Just a feedback note to let you know what we found at the various campsites.
Dog Pool- Good Friday. Only three other people other than our group of three.
The Shannon River is not flowing. The water tank was approx half full but no
signs of wrigglers in the water but I put my Microporous Tap filter on just in
case.
The Ranger had been out a few days earlier and dropped off a load of fire wood.
Campsite was in good condition. Very impressed with the large, broad seat near
the fire ring.
Lake Maringup- Easter Saturday. Ranger had been out a few days earlier and
dropped of a load of fire wood, but no water. Had to get it out of the lake as
advised by Roger and Angie. Fot he best results, we waded out about 2 metres
which came up to knee height to get clear of the flotsam on the surface. It was
a bit tricky underfoot as there are a tangle of planks on the bottom,so don`t do
it fully clothed in case you lose your balance. We used the kitchen sink of 10
litres to collect the water. The water was very good and we did not notice any
woody taste after we boiled it.
Between Lake Maringup and Gardner. Although we saw only one snake, a Tiger,
there were hundreds of snake tracks between Gardner Rd and Chesapeake Rd and we
know they were fresh because the was a group of 4 one day in front of us and
their footprints were crossed by the snakes. Would not recommend getting off the
track here or doing it in the night. We did not confuse their tracks with roo
tail marks.
Gardner. Easter Sunday. Ranger had been on 5.4.04 to clean roof and drop off
fire wood.
The water tank was half full and the downpipe mentioned bt Roger had been
reconnected. I guess the Ranger did it. The water was of good quality and the
was a makeshift water filter on the tap although one wriggler got through it.
We found one packet of pre cooked spaghetti left by Roger and Angie with
instructions. It is still in the Register Box undamaged.
One member of the group before us had his self inflating mat blow out during the
night, as told in the register, so we had a look at the sleeping bench and
noticed that some of the screw heads were not countersunk. A sharp edge of the
screw head probably caused the damage. I carry a groundsheet to put my mattress
on to minimise damage.
There would appear to be an ant problem at the bottom table and seats down by
the river, as a continuous2inch wide stream of ants go past the table legs.
Would strongly advise against using this table.
