Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone knows about any proposed burnoffs along the
track from Mt Cook to Gringer Creek this weekend (4-5th June)? The
CALM website says there are some planned in Autumn but i'm not sure
if they have already been done. I'm going walking with a few friends
for the long w/end. Haven't hiked this section yet as last time I
planned it the bushfires went through and burnt the huts down.
Hopefully this time I won't be stopped by prescribed burns!

Cheers,
Ryan B.

Just to let everyone know that the sand bar at the Denmark Inlet is
due to be opened on 3rd June. The level of water in the inlet is
very high for this time of the year due to heavy autumn rains.

This means that for about the next 6 months, walkers wishing to
cross between Nullaki Peninsula and Denmark will not be able to walk
across the inlet opening at Ocean Beach.

The options to cross will be:-

a) To use Denmark Dingy Hire to get you across.
b) To get vehicle transport via Eden road.
c) To walk via Eden Road which is around 25-30km.
d) Helicopter if you can find one.

Hi all

Just want to REadvertise a trip that I posted here a few months ago.

The Grand Traverse to K2 and Snow Lake in Pakistan is one of the finest
mountain treks there is.

It's in closing stages so if anyone is interested, can take the time off
work and is up for a mind blowing experience, please look into it and
give it some serious thought.

http://www.fieldtouring.com/expeditions/grandtraverse.html

its being organized by a WA based company and was initially a private
itinerary for me but we've opened it to public and currently we are
party of 4 with some members from the US joining us in Islamabad.

For those of you who are interested, feel free to email Dave from Field
Touring Alpine at dave@... or myself on

Other happy trekking to everyone here

Since the heavy rains a couple of weeks ago the level of the Wilson Inlet at
Denmark has risen remarkably.

So Denmark Dingy hire is again running his service to cross the Inlet to the
Nullaki peninsula. Its been closed for a while because of the weed buildup
jamming up the outboard motor. It costs $35-00. You need to phone John
beforehand on 0429 421 786.

If you are walking from Albany and want to catch the ferry, its best to phone
beforehand as it's really difficult to see the sign from such a distance. If you
have a mobile phone (GSM or CDMA) there is good reception from the Nullaki
peninsula.

Gazing out of my office window (and looking at the weather radar on the
BoM site), I just hope that Harry's got some really good rain gear and
he finds the huts empty and doesn't have to tent it. Must be a tad damp
out on the BT today!
Mind you, given a choice between the office and the BT, I think I'd
rather be out there with Harry.
Bloody good that the walking season has arrived at last.

Hi Everyone

The section of Track from Peaceful Bay to Boat Harbour has been diverted to
avoid the bushfire started by lightning strikes.

Heading SOUTH from Peaceful Bay continue along Peaceful Bay Beach for 7km
and rejoin the Track at the eastern end of Quarrum Beach. You will need to
cross the Irwin Inlet near the mouth toward the ocean. Do not walk to the
canoes.

Heading NORTH continue along Quarram Beach for 7km until reaching Peaceful
Bay via the beach. Cross the Irwin Inlet at the near the mouth - do not
follow the Track to the canoes.

The distance reduces the total day's distance by 4.5km. The Irwin Inlet
sand bar is intact so you will not need to wade.

Graham.
I'd be in it but I will be halfway to Walpole on the track at that time, see
you in a couple of weeks at Denmark.
Seems like everytime someone organizes a walk I'm already out there walking
!

Hi All,

I am sending this e-mail out to lots of people on from my address list who
may be interested in walking this section of the Bibbulmun track.

At the moment I am trying out the feasibility of running a tourism venture
on this section. This will be a fully supported walk between Denmark and
Albany. I feel that there will be a demand, and I am working out how to get
it all together.

This Autumn I am looking for volunteers whom I will take through the
experience for no charge. In this way when I get paying clients I will not
be groping in the dark and able to put on a very well run enterprise.

So the walk will be from Denmark to Albany Windfarm.

* I need groups of 3-4 people.
* Three days walking, with two overnight camps.
* Carry only a daypack with you requirements for the daytime.
* All food, bedding and overnight needs will be delivered to the overnight
camps.
* The maximum daily walk is 22 km. Not a huge distance but not too far to
walk without a heavy pack.
* I will transport you back from the Albany Windfarm on the third day.
* The first overnight stop will be in at tent camp on a property very close
to Lowlands Beach.
* The second night will be at the Torbay Shelter. I can drive to within
1km. The equipment and food will be packed in.
* You will need to provide your own day packs, personal items, and food
which I will deliver. I will supply bedding, cooking gear, support etc.

The first pilot group will be walking on the weekend after Easter and I am
looking to get another few groups through before the onset of winter. Feel
free to spread the word around. It a great walk along some of the world's
most fantastic coastline.
