Thanks Wilson.
Neville.

Two ticks for HiTech boots. I'll look out for them, cheers.

Your photos on the groups page late last year were good too. It was
probably one of the things that made us want to try a walk in that area.

Andrew, Wilson, Members.
I have bought my last two pair from Midland Disposals.
Hi Tec have a habit of changing their style names every couple of years.
The "Chico" boots are just light hiking boots their terminology not mine.
I probably have a photo of them in my pictures somewhere I will have a look
and post them in the files.
I have a list of every piece of footwear I own at the moment with the
weights of each piece of footwear I'll try and dig that up to even has the
Dunlop 40 dollar specials I don't like em but others do, thongs, sandals,
(two types) Scarpra boots very heavy, the list goes on..
Thanks. Neville.

Hi Neville
Where do you get these boots from and what are "Chico" style? I cannot find
them any where online.
Thanks

Cheers for the suggestions and FAQ - how long did it take you to put

   Hi Wilson and Members.
I have tried numerous brands of boots and shoes and always gone back to
Hi-Tec boots 130 bucks and good for about 18 months or 2000 Kilometers
(approx figures), the previous/present two sets I have used are the "Chico"

My wife Margaret who has fairly wide feet wears the same brand and style

I wear sock liners good socks and orthotics (the soft ones) and never get a
blister I walk about 80 days a year in the bush and quite often wear my
boots around the suburbs on walks when I'm home and when I'm working around

I am a duck as well. Feet so wide they are almost square. I blame
years of going without shoes during summer months.

I am in love with Scarpas, lovely wide fittings. But I now have a
pair of Merrels which I wore every day for 3 weeks and walked. They
are different style of boot, they tend to make you want to walk.
These are my second pair of Merrels as well. First pair was shoes and
wonderful to have on your feet.

I don't think I could hike in shoes though, I need the support at the
ankles as I have turned them too many times to say they are strong
any more.

I have the problem of wide(ish) feet, but in a US 14 size. Not readily
available in OZ.

I went to a local podiatrist here (in rural vic) who was recommended
to me and got a pair of Hitek light hikers that suit me well. The
podiatrist accurately measured my hoofs and ordered them directly. His
price matched what I could find from Aust. stores, but in the correct
size.

I'm not particularly recommending the Hitek for you, just suggesting
the podiatrist approach.

Didn't want to ruffle any feathers... :)

Good to see some other ducks out there. What shoes do you wear when
you're walking? I'm about size 10US apparently.

Perhaps, like Mark says, shoes would be better for bib track walks. It
would be nice to find a pair of boots though. I went to a couple of
"Rogains" last year and I think boots would be pretty important for that.

Hi Mark

Pretty much yes. I have gone okay with Scarpa's but struggle to find lighter
weight shoes which are wide enough. New Balance 800 series have been good
but it seems that getting the wide last, 4E is getting harder and harder. At
least I know that the NB 800 series in size X with 4E last will fit and I
can order from the US if I wish.

Roger's FAQ on boots is also worth a read. It can be found at
http://www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/FAQ_Footwear.htm

Then again, there is always the Dunlop Volleys which I wear daily in my

Three suggestions.

First, read the FAQ on footwear.
www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/
Note especially the bit about how your feet expand when you walking.

Second: get over the idea that you need boots at all. You don't, as most
EXPERIENCED walkers know. In fact, I think more boots are sold as
fashion/street wear these days.

Third: try some Dunlop KT-26 shoes in a LARGE size with some thick socks.
Don't lace them tightly either. (Cost ~$30)

Cheers

Welcome Wilson,

Photos look great, glad you had a good trip also.

Boots/shoes....you will find a friend in Andrew(no the kiwi one), he has the
same problem...Andrew am I correct?

I would recommend the obvious and go to some of the local places in town,
Mike at MD will be a good help, on the same street you have Paddy Pallins
and Kathmando.

Just because you are hiking doesn't mean you need hiking shoes, perhaps a
visit to a good sports store may also be a good move.

Cheers

Hi all,

After lurking and learning in this group for a while, it's time to post
something...

Last year the old man and I decided we should go on a decent hike over
new years. We actually ended up getting organised and did Denmark to
Albany. We've done a few walks before, but this was the longest one yet.
It was exhausting, my feet felt like they were going to fall off and the
MOZZIES - aarrrghh!!... But I can't wait for the next one :) I'm hoping
to do Balingup to Mumballup some weekend soon.

If anyone's interested - here are some photos
http://www.beans.ath.cx/gal/wilson/holidays/BibbulmunDenmarkAlbany

Anyway, back to the point of this post - can anyone suggest boots to
suit wide feet?

Last year, after a few recommendations, I decided to buy a pair of
Scarpa SL boots with a "BXX" fit, which is apparently the extra wide
model (http://www.scarpa.co.uk/technical/lasting.asp).

As good as these boots are, they just don't seem to suit my feet. I find
my toes are squashed in (in fact, I think they're folding under each
other), but my heal still slips (i.e. blisters galore).

Any ideas what I should do?

Anyway, back to the point of this post - can anyone suggest boots to
suit wide feet?

Last year, after a few recommendations, I decided to buy a pair of
Scarpa SL boots with a "BXX" fit, which is apparently the extra wide
model (http://www.scarpa.co.uk/technical/lasting.asp).

As good as these boots are, they just don't seem to suit my feet. I find
my toes are squashed in (in fact, I think they're folding under each
other), but my heal still slips (i.e. blisters galore).

Any ideas what I should do?

Hi Folks, just to clear a few things up...as there is much said which
is inaccurate
1. macpac was purchased by Mouton Noir
2. Mouton Noir is owned by Bernie Wicht ( founder of Bivouac and ex-
partner in Kathmandu), Pierre van Noorden (ex retail development at
Kathmandu) and Campbell Junor ( product/design manager at Kathmandu
95-2000, Mountain Designs 2000-2007)
3. they formed the company and purchased fairydown from previous owner
Alp Sports early 2007
4. currently trading in NZ via 5 company owned stores selling
Fairydown adventure equipment
5. purchased macpac, to take effect 1 march 2008
6. carrying over designer, development, suppliers, manufacturers,
brand values and warranties.
7. plan to offer products to customers via our own stores, reducing
the added cost that customers incur when buying from other retailers.
8. rollout stores in as many areas as we can, as soon as we can
9. open internet sales to cover the time gap before we can have a
physical presence in key locations.
10. Hi Mike W, fancy stocking macpac ;)

cheers
Cam
