Tony, I'm not sure if I mentioned earlier, but pressure cooking it is supposed
to work.
This makes sense, since that's essentially what the canned stuff is. I tried
the canned one
last time I was in the US. Trust me, we're not missing much. It had a distinct
affinity with
cat food.

You can also cook up chicken mince in a recipe, and dehydrate that. If you
Google "Rod
Lawlor" and "Kimberley", I think I had our Thai curry recipe up.

Cheers, Rod

Sure does! I add some Deb.
Beef Curry is also good - and large (and lots of curry too).
Settlers Beef and Beef Casserole is OK too.

Hi Tony
The guys who have hiked with me know I like to prepare a good meal when
possible. Tonight I have the dehydrator running on a new recipe.

I call it............. Fresh Garden Vegtables with Pink Salmon in a mustard
cheese sauce.

Julie , thanks for the prompt reply. Fly veil carefully noted, I usually
carry one in the pack these days, just in case.
Handy to know about the water-- always vital !
Yes I realise the weather can be a lottery, particulary on coastal Vic.
I'll certainly book into the campsites.
Enjoy the coastal Bib track walk , I have good memories of doing the
section from Walpole to Albany. We took a risk and did it
in January a few years ago & got away with not too hot weather & had one
cool drizzly day.
My tip, take a mozzy net, when we did it they were out in numbers!! We
didn't have tent, stayed in the shelters except for one night close to a
beach & rigged our nets each night.
                               regards Eric

Hello Eric,
We did the Great Ocean Walk in November and the weather was perfect. No
rain, low 20's. BUT the month before they had severe storms and someone
was killed in their tent by a tree! Then a couple of weeks after, they
had 40 plus temps.
I guess we were lucky, but it can be unpredictable down there.

We took 7 nights with no gut busting. We had one food drop half way, and
got lunch at a little cafe not far off the track another day. The walk
is very nice. Some beach walking, rainforest, lots of Koalas, and
MILLIONS OF FLIES. The most valuable item I took was a fly net. We
booked our campsites ahead as requested, and were told the sites were
full. However we only had one other group camping with us on one of the
nights. The remainder of the nights the campsites were empty. Good tank
water and loos with a view.

Regards Julie

Julie, I noticed that amongst your walks completed you've done the Great
ocean road trek.
What do you suggest is the best time of year to do it weather wise & how
long does it take to do without busting a gut?
Regards Eric

Julie,

Most of the people on this forum have more experience that me but here is some
information: The guy that runs the backpackers in Walpole also drives the local
taxi. His phone number is on the Bibbulmun Track website
http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/trip-planner/Track-Towns/Walpole.aspx. You can
ask him how much he would charge. I have stayed there (very basic, but clean)
and used the taxi. Next door is more fancy, but I cant remember what it was
called.

Do you have any Bibbulmun track maps yet ? You can get them online The guide
books are great and can also be obtained online. They are 'no fire' sections of
the track, so you must use a fuel stove for the whole hike. I presume you will
need to stay in Walpole and Peaceful Bay during you trip. Check the Bibbulmun
wesbite for accomodation options. You get to Walpole via train from Perth to
Bunbury then bus to Walpole
http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au/portals/0/resources/timetables/GS3.pdfIt is much
quicker to drive, but the public transport is relaxing. I usually treat the tank
water with Puri-tabs, but as Mark and other say, he has drank form them. You may
need to strain mosquitoes from the water (using stocking or some other
material).
As for weather, the BOM
(http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_009637.shtml) has all the
statistics you need, but this website has an easy to read graph
http://www.john.chapman.name/wa-bibwd.html

Be very careful when on the beach as the Southern Ocean can have some BIG waves
and you don't want to drown!!

Check the Bibbulmun website for track
conditions(http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/track-info/Track-Conditions.aspx)
and diversions. Contact the local CALM offices for the most up to date
information.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Julie

There is a taxi (single taxi) in Walpole. It is run by the couple who own
the YHA in Walpole or was. There details can be found at

Hi Andrew,
I have posted a few questions. We are doing the Walpole to Denmark section in
early May.

We are experienced bushwalkers. Kokoda, Nepal, Tas, NZ, Great Ocean Walk,
Malaysia, and currently training for Kokoda Challenge in Gold Coast Hinterland
in July. Never done anything in WA.

Looking forward to the Bibbulmun.

Hi,

Try the postal office there at the caravan park, you might be able to post
yourself something and pickup from there.
PEACEFUL BAY CARAVAN PARK LOT 1424 PEACEFUL BAY ROAD PEACEFUL BAY WA

   Hi All
I'd like to gauge just how much interest there would be in a group
get together, if there were say 5 or 10 people who would like to meet
and have a chat with other members of this group then I would plan
   something.
I have a spot in mind up near Mundaring and I thought also that those
who wanted to could bring their favorite peice of gear with them to
   show the group.
If you are interested or if you are not interested would you please
   leave a message.

   Thanks

Hi

I'd like to come (depending on the date), but I'd mostly be
interested in hearing about walks in WA that I haven't done - I feel
like I'm running out of ideas a bit.

Cheers
