I have been advised by Lucas Trihey that the Adventure Gear Guide and
Adventure Journal are not going to be produced for 2008.
The press release is attached.
ADVENTURE PUBLISHING - ANNOUNCEMENT 14th April 2008
Carl Roe and Lucas Trihey of Adventure Publishing regretfully announce that
they have decided to cease publication of the Adventure Gear Guide and
Adventure Journal magazines.
Although both magazines have been well received by readers, advertisers and
gear suppliers we've found that our business model of producing just two
titles per year was proving difficult to sustain. The only answer to this is
to publish the titles more frequently, but for lifestyle reasons this is not
a direction we wish to pursue. Our decision to move onto other projects is
partly business, partly lifestyle.
We're currently negotiating with potential buyers and we'll advise you if a
change of ownership occurs.
We'd both like to take this opportunity to express a hear-felt thank you to
the wonderful readers, contributors and advertisers who have supported
Adventure Publishing and made the four magazines we've produced a reality.
We're able to look back on the titles with pride and we hope we've left a
positive legacy.
We'll be contacting subscribers soon to make arrangments to refund the
un-used portion of your subscriptions.
Back copies of our magazines are still available for $9.95+ postage. Call
Lucas on 02 4784 1029 to mail order.
All the best,
Carl Roe and Lucas Trihey

Julie.
This might help as well.
Starting on April 5th this year I walked from Walpole to Pemberton and gas
was available from Walpole (2 Places), Northcliffe and Pemberton.
(The common self sealing threaded type bottles)
Neville.
Thanks for the info on the cylinders. I will call PB to make sure.

Hi
I agree with Neville, however, given there are numerous "hikers" gas
canisters (e.g., pieced ones, screw on ones, Camping Gaz style etc), I would
suggest you be a more specific in your request for information, otherwise
you may be having a few cold dinners :(

Hi
Not sure about the gas but this page from the Bib foundation has some
numbers that might be useful

Can't be a 100% sure since it has been awhile since I was there but the

Would also depend on the type of canister you use.

It is with great sadness that I became aware yesterday that Geoff Gibson of
the Tingle All Over YHA at Walpole passed away on February 1, 2008. Geoff
and Kerry where great supports of the Bibbulmun Track and its walkers,
providing great accommodation and friendly service.
They kept a photo album of all walkers who passed through their YHA which
was just great flicking back through putting faces to names in logbooks.
Geoff will be deeply missed by all. My deepest sympathy to Kerry and
family.

Today I bought some tooth powder, it is sold in a 100 gm tin at a cost
of $2.20. but I will be decanting it into a smaller container for our
upcoming hike.
It should weight next to nothing once I am done with it.
It is Colgate brand and came from the small Indian food shop along
Bannister Rd Canningvale. near the hotel end of the road.

After posting, last week, about the mat I bought from REI I dug it
out of the cupboard the other day. (Haven't used it for 6 months- the
only overnight walks this year have been with borrowed sleeping gear
in US). That is the brand I have, the only difference with mine is I
chose the rectangular pad. I prefer full width at my head for "pillow"
support. I'm very pleased with mine. Very comfortable, even for
someone 190cm and 110kg's

Hi Julie
I bought that mat last year from the evo sport website.
I have found the mat the be extremely comfortable. Much more so than I
thought it would be. Would definately recommend it.
Only (small) drawback is thay you need to inflate it yourself by
blowing it up rather than the self inflating types. About 10 breaths
does the trick though.
Also found the evo sport people very easy to deal with.

Originally developed for farming use. When I looked at the stuff I found
very tough material, very waterproof, but heavy! OK - industrial and farming
use, makes sense. I don't think it breathed very well either.
I haven't looked at the latest versions - they may have changed some
fabrics. Don't know.
Cheers

Tony,
If you don't get a response this week, I would run it again with it being
directed to Andrew Priest as he is a kiwi and may have knowledge of the rain
gear.
He is currently on a push bike tour somewhere testing out his new purchase
for the week with a few mates from the Perth Bushies.

Hello again Julie,
All I know is that is from the stable of Pacific Outdoor Equipment which has
17 models available in Australia.
It is a three season pad and you would want the woman's version as it has a
woman's specific design. (No, I don't know what it is and I am not going
there <g>)
Go to this link to have a look at it:

I read your post re socks. I have 3 prs of woollen socks passed on to
me by my cousin when he left the British Army. He did lots of heavy
grade hiking in the Army but swore he would never wear boots again.
And since I gave up wearing boots (and socks) I have no use for them.

Andrew (or anyone else) please contact me. I'd like them to go to a

I used to live reasonably close to Gladstone many moons ago at Monto. We
used to go to Gladstone via Biloela which was 100ks, then another 108 ks or
so to Gladstone. That was before the bauxite plant days which made your town
a boom place.
When you get the mat, let the group know where you got it and what you think
of it.
Cheers

Hi again Ralph,
Mainpeak at Cottesloe stock the synmat for $219.
Expedition Equipment in Horsnby are also getting me a contact closer to
home. Our local camping shop is very good and I like to buy from them if
possible. If they can send one to them I will be able to try before I buy.
Otherwise I will wait till I get to Perth and get it from Mainpeak.
Thanks for your help.
