Yes, that dancing show was on here but I refused to watch it.

Read a good book instead.

I see that the article is on P 17 in today's West.

No I don’t Rosemary.

I saw the letter also and could find no other reference.

It was addressed to Wrong Way Jim Baker so I would suggest giving the
Foundation a ring on Monday and speak to Jim.

Could you post the findings here when you find out?

I walked that section many years ago and my vivid memory is that of my
walking partner nearly collapsing and cramping on the massive hill beside
the pine plantation shortly before Dookanelly coming from Possum Springs. I
had to shove Pringles down his neck to get salt back into his body together

Perhaps the mulled wine might be the go.

I wonder what lettuce, tomato and bread look like after nearly a year in a
can?

I do accept Andrew’s point about customs, but just the thought of it….gads.

Mountain Designs Sale and Special Offer

Diamond sponsor Mountain Designs have purchased a large amount of freeze
dried Backpacker Pantry Food. There are 3 flavours to choose from but stocks
are limited. Kung Pao Chicken, Organic Spinach Puttanesca or Organic Tofu
Pesto. They are on sale for $5 each rather than $15.95 for the organic ones
and $13.95 for the chicken. Also if you are a Foundation member, they are
yours for $4 each (or any combo of 10, $3 each - so $30). Available from
Perth store only.

The Mountain Designs Sale (all stores) starts this Thursday on July 23rd, 4
days only. 25% off for existing Foundation members. You must present your
card to get the discount. Not a member? Join online now
<http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/SupportUs/Membership.aspx> .

Sea to Summit Job Opportunity

Gold sponsor Sea to Summit is growing and due to this they are looking for a
Product Designer and a Customer Service representative. The Product Designer
is a very specific role seeking design experience and a flair for
innovation. Their customer service department is set up to process orders
and handle queries from Australian retailers and would suit a person who is
quick on the keyboard, with generalist skills and an interest in outdoor
gear. For further information see:
http://www.seatosummit.com.au/employment.php

Forest Survey - Win $100 Voucher

Murdoch University, in collaboration with Beckwith Environmental Planning,
is conducting a research project on community views about different forest
scenes and their acceptability. We are particularly interested in the views
of bushwalkers, off-road cyclists and water and forest managers, as users of
the forest and people with good knowledge of it. The research is being
conducted using an online survey.

The URL for the online survey is <http://gamp.murdoch..edu.au/forest>
http://gamp.murdoch..edu.au/forest. The survey will be live online 20 July -
7 August 2009. The results from this research will assist in ensuring that
Western Australia's forests are managed sustainably into the future. The
questionnaire takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete online.

Those completing the survey are eligible to participate in a random draw for
a $100 voucher to the National Geographic shop.

It is essential to the integrity of the research data that participants only
complete the questionnaire once and that they not share the questionnaire
URL with others. All data will be treated as confidential by the researchers
and will not be released to a third party. Reports on the study findings
will not identify any participants by name. If you have any questions about
the survey, you can contact either of the Principal Researchers:

The only downside to the stove that I have been advised of is that it's a
single batch stove, so once it burns out, you have to load in a new batch of
sticks and relight. It burns constant for about 20 minutes.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows or has contacts re: hiring of epirbs?

We're hiking the Larapinta in Alice Springs in 3.5 weeks and still sourcing an
epirb. We haven't had much luck with some places being booked out, and time is
getting short.

Thought I'd try this list, maybe there's someone in the know, places we've
overlooked...

Fingers crossed,
Truc ;)

I have received this email from Mountains Designs.

If you are interested in being part of this tour group there is an
information evening at the new Peregrine Perth Theatrette 862 Hay St on
Thursday June 25th 6pm.

Ralph

<snip>

As you are all aware Mike Wood purchased the Peregrine Adventures travel
agency in Perth last year and together with Mike's Mountain Designs business
can now offer a more complete travel and outfitting service to our many
adventure orientated clients. Mike has been successfully leading treks all
over the world for many years and will be leading a special trek to the
remote Nar Phu area of Nepal in October.

We now also have planned a trek to the top of Africa, Kilimanjaro departing
Perth 30 January, 2010 to be escorted by Hugh Trivett, owner of the Mountain
Designs stores in Fremantle and Claremont. We would like to invite you on
this adventurous trip to Africa which is going to include climbing
Kilimanjaro, game viewing in the Serengeti and Ngorogoro crater and chilling
on the beaches of Zanzibar on the way home.

The trip is scheduled January 2010 and will take about 16 days. The first
week will be spent summiting the highest free standing mountain in the world
and give us the opportunity to look out over Africa from her highest point.
We will then fly to the Serengeti for a few days of game viewing in one of
the most densely populated game parks in Africa followed by a day / night in
the crater. We will end the trip with a stop over in Zanzibar for everyone
to relax on the beaches of Zanzibar and enjoy all the pleasures it has to
offer.

During our time on Kilimanjaro we will hike for 80km, gain more than four
kilometers in altitude, traverse rain forest, moor land, alpine desert, snow
fields and ice cliffs and stand on the roof of the continent. Time in the
Serengeti and Ngorogoro crater will be spent living in a comfortable tent
camp with every comfort being taken care of and game viewing drives through
some of the best areas of the park.

The whole trek will cost $AUD10,500 including international and domestic
flights, all hotels, transfers, all food while on trek and Hugh will be
leading the trek from Perth and back to Perth. Some things that are not
included in the cost are travel insurance and visa's (available through the
Peregrine Perth office) and some equipment like boots and a daypack. A
complete equipment list will be provided and after hours Gear Talk, and 20%
discount at Mountain Designs, will be available for all trekkers.

There will be an information evening on the trek to be held at the new
Peregrine Perth Theatrette 862 Hay St on Thursday June 25th 6pm for all
those interested in joining the group. Bookings are essential so please
RSVP. There are only 15 places available for this trek in keeping with our
small group travel ideals. For more information please contact Jos at
Peregrine WA on <mailto:jos@...> jos@... ,or
by phone on 08 9321 1259.

Dear All

I am planning to lead a walk of the Cape to Cape Track from September 26 to
October 3, 2009. The walk description follows. If you are interested in
coming along drop me an email at andrew@....

Regards
Andrew

Considering walking the Cape to Cape Track from Augusta to Dunsborough? Well
here is your opportunity to join myself, Ralph Ditton and other members on a
pack carry of the track.

The plan is to travel to Augusta on Saturday September 26 (probably via
train/bus) and to commence walking on the Sunday. We will walk out into
Dunsborough the following Friday and again returning via bus/train. We will
camp four nights at campsites (toilet, water tank and picnic table) and one
night at the Hamlin Bay Caravan Park, so this is an unsupported walk and you
will need to carry supplies for the full seven days.

All walking is on track or beaches and the walk itself is very scenic,
albeit travelling at times through various coastal settlements.

Andrew previously walked the Track in 2002 (north – south) and you can read
up on the walk at http://aushiker.com/c2c_main.htm.

Andrew rates this walk as medium. To book a spot on this walk email Andrew
at Andrew@... (preferred contact) as soon as possible.

Dear Trekker,

I would like to invite you on a new trek that I'm taking to Nepal this year
departing Perth on October 24th and returning November 18th. As you may be
aware I purchased the Peregrine Adventures travel agency in Perth last year
to allow me to offer a more complete travel and outfitting service to my
adventure orientated clients.

The area we are planning to visit is called "Na Phu" and it is a new one for
me and for Peregrine. Na Phu is a remote and isolated Tibet-like valley near
the border of Nepal and Tibet and hidden behind the Manaslu massif, one of
the fourteen highest 8,000 metre peaks in the world. The trek we have
planned will begin on the traditional Annapurna Circuit in the Marsyandi
River valley before branching off into the Na Phu valley. We plan to
continue the trek through the Tilicho Lake area in the middle of the
Annapurna Massif before descending down into the Kali Gandaki valley and
flying back to Kathmandu from Jomsom. When this trek is mentioned to veteran
Himalayan trekkers they all know of the area and all claim they've always
wanted to go there - so we will!

The terrain will vary from low land villages down at 1,000 metres above sea
level, through to the middle hills villages filled with bustling farm life,
to the quiet, dark, mossy rhododendron forests of the Annapurna's, to the
arid, rain shadowed Tibetan terrain behind the Himalayan range and on to the
white, stark beauty of a glacier filled valley sweeping down from the
greatest mountains in the world towering above you. Our highest point on the
trek is around 5200 metres so expect some possible struggles with altitude,
some cold conditions (lowest around minus 10), some warmer walking (high
20's) in the lower hills and remember these are the highest mountains in the
world so the weather can sometimes be interesting.

The whole trek will cost $AUD6,500.00 including international and domestic
flights, all hotels, transfers, all food while on trek and I will be
leading the trek from Perth and back to Perth. We will provide things like a
comprehensive first aid kit, a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC), duffle bags,
tents, mess tents, toilet tents, tables and stools. Some things that are
not included in the cost are travel insurance and visa's (available through
the Peregrine Perth office) and some equipment like boots and a daypack. A
complete equipment list will be provided and an after hours Gear Talk, and
20% discount at Mountain Designs, will be available for all trekkers.

There will be an information evening on the trek to be held at the new
Peregrine Perth Theatrette 862 Hay St on Wednesday July 1st 6pm for all
those interested in joining the group. Bookings are essential so please
RSVP. There are only 15 places available for this trek in keeping with our
small group travel ideals. For more information please contact either
myself, or Jos at Peregrine WA on jos@... ,or by phone on 08
9321 1259.

A detailed day to day itinerary is available on request.

I hope to see you there.

*MORE ADVENUTURE IN THE WEST! *

*MOUNTAIN BIKE ORIENTEERING- A GREAT WAY TO GET READY FOR TEVA! *

**For all those who came along to Turner Hill last weekend,
congratulations! You have taken the first step to becoming a successful
Teva participant. For those who didn’t, don’t panic – there is still time
to hone your skills and another event to try out before the Teva Adventure
Race. MTBO returns to Langford Park on Sunday, July 12 on a course that
will be familiar to Teva veterans of the past two years. There's plenty of
single track and good rideable trails to suit all types of riders on a fully
updated map.
*
Mountain Bike Orienteering, or MTBO*, involves riding around a network of
tracks using a map and searching for controls, much like Teva. Participants
go at their own pace around a set course, but pick the route that they think
will get them around the fastest, so good decision making is a must. The
maps show rideabilty and so you can choose the short single track or longer
gravel road.

Events in WA are fairly low key and there is assistance available to
newcomers from experienced riders. There are courses to suit all ages and
levels of experience ranging from 10km to 30km. So why not come along and
improve your skills for the upcoming Teva race?
*UPCOMING EVENTS... * *July 12 * Langford Park (Jarrahdale - last
year's Teva location) *August 2 * Goat Farm (Greenmount)
*August 30 * Pickering
Brook *October 24/25 * Wellington Dam - State Champs

events, visit
