Hi

Anyone heard from Harry at all? Was in at Monadnocks and Mt Cooke Campsites
last week but couldn't find anything in the registers from Harry.

I have been advised by the Action Sports Marketing Manager, Nicole Simmonds,
that the magazine is a one-shot and is not part of the subscription deal for
October.

When printed, the copies will be sent to their Fulfillment House and we will be
able to order them direct, or purchase them in your local newsagent.

Unfrotunately I was not advised of price, so I have sought a price from them and
will advise when to hand.

From the Editor of Outdoor Australia,"This mammoth publication,[the first annual
Gear Guide], is essentially two years' worth of our regular gear reviews all
rolled into one fat publication."

Regards

Ralph.

Andrew.
I read the article on page 62 and Mr.Spedding does not seem very impressed
by the Bibbulmun Track, calling it the Bubblegum Track. The walk looks very
interesting so I will log it onto my must do trips.

On another issue, the Outdoor Australia magazine is putting out a Gear Guide
2005 and it goes on sale on October 13th. There is no mention of cost, so I
have written to Crystal Wormleaton of their Subscriptions Dept for costings
and if subscribers can order it direct.

Will keep you posted when I hear.

Regards
Ralph Ditton.

Hi Everyone,

My little walk has now reached Denmark on Day 43 of 47. Off to Nullaki or West
Cape Howe today depending on where the party guests are. (I've got a load of
goodies in my pack to party with some people that I have been following from
Kalamunda for 43 days)

My B.T. pilgrimage has sped up somewhat in the past 17 days. I've found that my
fitness has picked up somewhat, allowing me to walk all day if need be. However
the double hutting bit is now over and its party, party, party all the way to
Albany!

As I was saying in my last email of 9th September, the track has been very quiet
for my walk. To this stage, I've had 32 hut nights with only 3 nights of
company. In addition I've met only 8 walkers on track, 6 of these being since
Walpole.

The last 2 hut stays have been relatively warm, mozzie infested nights, at Boat
Harbour & William Bay. Not even cold enough to get into my 0 deg. rated bag!
(Now +5 due to age)

My favourite section of the BT so far is Northcliffe to Wapole, with my
favourite huts being Beavis, Maringup & Dogpoole. My least favourite hut was
Blackwood.

Haven't seen Harry on the track yet, perhaps towards Albany....

Regards

Perry Raison

Hi,

I've been working on an engineering project at uni, to develop a shoe that
produces electricity as you walk. When the foot falls a generator is spun
and a battery is charged. One application i have thought of would be when
doing large walks, one set of batteries could be charged everyday to make
sure you've always got power for your head lamp.

If any one has the time, please fill out a survey we have got going to
determine the "market viability" of such a shoe, the survey is at

Hi

It appears that AAA Lithium batteries are on the market. They are showing
as being available at least one US retailer,
<<http://store.batteryspecialists.com/l92bp4.html>http://store.batteryspecialist\
s.com/l92bp4.html>.
I did try to find out more information on the Energizer site at
<http://www.energizer.com/default.asp> with out luck. I did search for the
battery number as given on the retailer's site at Energizer without luck :-(.

Looks promising but unless someone has them in their hot little hands ....

If everything goes to schedule will be at Gringer Creek on the 26th,

Possum Springs to Harris Dam.

Maybe see some of you on the track somewhere along the way.

IIRC correctly the showers at the roadhouse where once described in the
register as a "bio-hazard." :-)

BTW last year, my coldest night on the Track was at Gringer Creek. There
was ice on the outside table when I left in the morning.

Hi all,

I'm pleased to report that Thursday's visit to the track was successful.

It was a remarkably social day, compared to my normal maintenance trips
to Monadnocks on which I rarely see anybody.
Reached the hut about noon to find a big group of happy daywalkers who
said they were from the Yahoo Over 55 walking group and had walked in
over the hills from Sullivan Rock. They planned to return by a flatter
route.
On the way back to Randall Road, I saw a big black pig, the first such
animal I have seen near the track. He either saw me or got my scent and
took off rapidly, to my relief.
Drove on down to North Bannister and eventually found the link trail
which leads to the hut.
Happily ensconsed in the hut were Cherie and Carrie, delighted that they
had been able to have a shower and wash their hair at the roadhouse
(something for end-to-enders to remember). Cost $5 including a towel. I
thought this was a bit expensive, but Carrie said she would have been
happy to pay $20!
They are having a ball and really seemed to be enjoying themselves. They
were pleased that it seemed to rain only at night and thought the
weather had been colder than they expected.
They were also puzzled that they had not met more walkers and hoped they
would encounter more as they went south. They reported seeing one small
snake and a few roos.
They declined a bottle of wine. Cherie's not a drinker and Carrie said
she had been pure for a week and wanted to stay that way! Strong people.

They hope to reach Albany on October 29.

Cheers,

Tony

High there folks,

Just a long winded one to share my experiences thus far on the BT.

I'm on my 26th day (day off in DRV) resting my Shin Splints? This little
annoyance is making double hutting impossible but who cares, I'm seeing all of
the sights and huts this way. Been doing a bit of tree identification today. The
Karri country is a nice change of course and the biggest change for my feet is
that it has been softer under foot - heaven!

Very quiet on the track, only 2 huts shared since I started. A school group of
14 at Chadoora (1 Teacher only in the hut) and another school group of 5 at
Gregory Brook night before last.
The latter was a group of 3 delinquent children from Busselton SHS with the
school Chaplain & his assistant. The boys went to sleep at 8:00AM which
surprised me. However at 11:30 they were firing on all cylinders and at 2:45
they had gone into 15th gear, shouting, stomping & throwing rubbish & dirty
socks at me and all over the hut. The Chaplain through all of this, was
pretending to be asleep and didn't utter a word. This must be the Chaplain's
'softly softly' approach I thought, but the thought soon vanished and I found a
375 ml bottle of water in my hand pouring water all over the youngest's head and
sleeping bag. The other kid's also got a bit and didn't go back to sleep much
after that oweing to the wet conditions in which they found themselves. In the
morning the Chaplain was still pretending to sleep (presumably because he was
unwilling to face me), when he did wake I could tell that he knew what had taken
place however we didn't discuss the issue. They were only on a
n overnighter so the wet bag wasn't a big issue.

Also had recurrent back problems for 6 days from Sullivan's Rock to Dwellingup
and this and the splints mean that I'll probably only make it to Walpole before
my time is up. Oh well, I guess Walpole to Albany will be a nice Oct/Nov walk
next year!

Favourite campsites to date: Gregory Brook, Dookanelly, Possum Springs &
Noggerup. Least favourite - Blackwood

Incidentally I am following Jim Freeman by 8 days - I would love to meet the
man, but don't reckon I will make it to Denmark for the AFL grand final where he
& his walking companions have made a pact to be.

Cheers

Perry

Hi David

There are a number of resources around the place ... check out
<http://aushiker.com/resources.htm> for more information. As you are
located in Mandurah, the Map Shop at Fremantle or Mountain Designs
Fremantle will have Bibbulmun Track maps. The map shop will also have the
CALM maps as well as the various books on walks. If you get CALM maps you
need the Land Management Series 1:50000 maps.

Regards
Andrew Priest

Hi David,
Check out Bibbulmun.com.au or any CALM web site, I'm sure you'll get heaps
of pointers from them.
Regards, Eddy.

doesn't have to be the Mandurah region.

Hi Harry

Sound great ... maybe will catch-up with you ... heading south in October -
Donnelly River way. Unfortunately you will be on the track after I lead a
walk in the Mt Dale area. Got to go and check out a Mundi Biddi campsite.

Andrew
