I don't ahve a criuser but I do have a 4runner and wnat to fit new
seats was wondering if any one out there has dones so.

I am looking at both the Stratos and aerotech but the stratos are so
much dearer are they better.

If you have has experience can you please let me know

I have a Sahara 1985 Hj60 <br><br>I was checking
the central locking and blew a fusabile link
or<br>something.....<br><br>Does anybody out there know where the fuse for it
is??????<br>Ive checked the fuse box and it has no label for
central locking and i<br>looked at most fuses and there
ok.<br>I checked the relays in the fuse box and there
ok..<br>If someone has a wiring diagram with central locking

ok, looks like i've found some people who share
my pain.<br><br>my fj60 guzzles. it really bloody
guzzles... and it's getting worse.<br><br>i'm lucky to get
300km around the city and averaged around 400km per
tank down to melbourne recently from sydney.<br><br>i
also found that after two days of resonably hard
highway driving it just lost all its guts and crawled up
hills.<br><br>i would really appretiate some feedback or advice

yeah i was kinda stuck in the same hole
recently.<br><br>i opted to duellers 31/10.5 up from my original 27"
set.<br><br>the ride is much more plush, but i find that the
steering creeps a bit about the tarmac (shitty sydney
roads), on dirt though.....<br><br>.....the bigger the
better <br><br>ps: keep yer gear ratios and such in mind
when upsizing tyre-wise

I dont know about fitting a late model motor ,
but I have a tidy 327 Chev which is fitted with Delow
bellhousing and Marx conversion engine mounts and fitts very
neatly. (Couple of photos in the photo section - Red
Rocket). It is essential to get the motor forward and off
the fire wall so as to get the air flow around the
motor. I moved my motor forward 50mm in the recent
rebuild I completed and dropped the running temp by 15
degrees. Fitted Flexy fan and lowered radiator which didnt
make very much difference at all previous to this.
Lining up both front and rear tail shafts can be fun
aswell. I had to sacrifice the front tail shaft alignment
to get the rear one straight to stop the centre
spline chewing out. <br><br>Go the V8s and the best of
luck. If you are fussy like me allow yourself plenty of
time

I currently own an 81 FJ40 SWB with a F2 petrol motor. I am thinking of swaping
it for a holden 5 litre V8 out of a VN or later......any Ideas<br><br>Thanks

Any Hi Lux is excellent.... lol.... but i had a
couple before i got the new 78 series cruiser... if
deisel just watch the oil pump.... they can clag up and
sheer the journal.... will cook your donk if that
happens.... hope this is of some help

Im thinking of getting one of those electronic
rust prevention systems, the ones which work with
sacrificial annodes, and charging ions, and all that sort of

for his beast and to my knowledge he got what he

Hi to all well I decided not to put a chevy
engine in my cruiser I just rebuilt the 2F bored her out
new cam shaft, crank shaft 350 Holley carb etc etc
converted her to unleaded and soon will hopefully have her
back on the road after nearly 8 weeks without my
shorty I am feeling lost and lonely...he he
he.<br>Rather than fix the original Fairy overdrive fitted I
have decided to remove it completly and save to fit a
5 speed .....

Rob<br>Go fo the conversion but use a chev. You
will have more room and things like extractors are off
the shelf for a chev small block into a landcruiser.
You can go direct to the company that makes them. AAA
exhaust in adelaide. I think the guys name is Gordon.
Their jig has been modified after I took my 40 in to
get the mandrel stainless sytem done. The guy from
production came down and checked the beast out and asked
what problems I had with the fit. I would use a Dellow
bellhousing and move the gearbox mount and use Marx
conversions engine mounts for the motor. This way you can
move the engine forward and up slightly so it doesnt
hit the fire wall which is a problem with most
conversions. I had tail shafts made at Hardy spicers in
adelaide with F100 splines and uni joints in the shafts
instead of the hilux ones they usually do. If you want

Well it appears that I now have two options I have to <br>1:Rebuild my six bore
it out get a new cam and etc or<br>2:put a holden 253 in and hope for the best
what would you choose

I will be doing alot of bush driving soon, (NO
BEACH driving), I just took off my standard split rims,
& put on a set of cheviot 8"x15" mags, I will be
going up the gulf soon, up the very top, & I recken
that the standard splitties would be the best for
doing that sort of work,<br><br>There are not a lot of
sand tracks up there, but there are some,, I think the
the standard tyres & rims, 16" would be the best,,
just chasing views on this to make my mind up??,

If I was to bore out my 6 cyl petrol and put oversize pistons in will the motor
perform any better just that it seems this maybe what I have to do because the
bore's are all glazed pretty bad.....

Hi everyone,<br>Well it seems I have a little bit
of luck whilst my cruiser was in the workshop
haveing the sump welded back up they at the same time
were pressure testing my radiator and as it works out
they were able to recognise either 1: I have a cracked
head or 2: The head gasket is stuffed so therefore
getting on top of things before doing some real damage to
the motor.........

Rob<br>Having just finished my 40 I can only say
that the 4 wheel discs is the only way to go if you
have the money. The brakes on mine are fantastic now.
Previously I had the standard 40 drums all round but had
fitted a Booster and master cylinder from a V8 holden
HT/HK with disc brake front end.(small diameter
booster) This combination made the drums work as well as
they were ever going to work. The big problem I had
was they kept going out of adjustment. The disc
brakes I have now are performing fantastic. I have a 75
series rear end. Had to cut and reweld the spring mount
as they were about 15mm to wide each side. Be
careful when welding them back on. I had a boiler maker
do it for me as I thought he knew what he was doing.
I found out he didnt as I ended up with a $400
dollar bill to get the housing staightened. The front
end is my standard 40 housing with 75 series discs
axles and diff centre fitted. I had to die gring the
inside of the knukles out slightly to accomodate the
larger CVs. Good luck

Hi all well my shorty is back out 1 workshop this
week haveing had a full rewire and dual batteries
fitted and more but next week spends another 3 days in a
workshop to have all those annoying cruiser leaks fixed
and to have the old girl spruced up a bit well that's
all for now

Mornin 55 owner. To fit disc brakes to the front
of my 40 I just fitted all the 75 series gear onto
the original 40 housing. By doing this I didnt have
to go through the pain of cutting off the spring
mounts and rewelding them on to suit the correct width.
I fitted a 75 series LSD and axles as well. The
only mods I had to do was to die grind out the inside
of the knuckle slightly as the 75 CVs are slightly
bigger. I fitted all the standard 75 steering rods and
coupled it to an 80 series power steering box and
modified steering column. Drives like a dream now. Contact

G'day all! Just trying to get some info on disc brake conversions for a 78model
FJ55, I've heard that the 75 series front end fits. Any info would be much

The Red Rocket has come up trumps it looks
great...I have not been online in ages because I am
currantly travelling around australia signwriting when Im
on my way through there I would love to come and
have a look at the Rocket I will be posting more
photos of my shorty on the web soon as well as my
mates/boss's troop carrier we have been makeing some mods
recently and things are looking good .....

The "Red Rocket" as my kids call it is on the
road at last.(4 years in the making) The photos are a
bit lame as it hasnt had any serious outings yet. I
have come across a couple of small problems which is
to be expected. I had to put a new clutch master
cylinder kit in. The sump is leaking oil which Ill have to
fix. Bloody fuel gauge doesnt work. Im going to put an
aftermarket job in. Probably VDO. It goes as good as it looks
and better than I could have imagined. The only
problem is that it is so light due to the fibreglass body
that the back wheels lock up under compression when
you back off in a hurry. Could be fun in the rain.
The power steering mods and front end mods I have
done make it drive as well as my VT commodore. No more
wondering or heavy steering. 4wheel discs pull it up on a
dime. Ill hopefully have some maiden voyage photos
later. Thereare not to many hard core tracks around.
Just alot of sand dunes. To any of you guys thinking
of spending the amount of time and effort I have,
Its all worth it in the end

I dont know about anybody else but we havent had
a day below 40 degrees for weeks now. To make
matters worse the Desalination plant that produces our
water has been having problems with the cooling towers
and because our town dam is covered but in the direct
sunlight the COLD water temperature is 38 degrees. This
means you can only have a HOT shower after a long hot
day. Its even to hot to go driving as the temp in the
sun is well over 50 degrees. I have been braving the
heat in my shed and getting the beast closer to being
finished. Im going to have to get airconditioning in the
shed I think. I can actually drive the beast now but
still need a few things made up like front bumper,
flares and finish some wiring and instal the seat belts
etc. Got to go and find a cool place to relax

A quick email to 4x4 spares did the trick. Price
was good to. Thanks for the help. Ill have to order
it today and get it on the way. Has anyone had any
experience with suspension mods on a rig with a fibreglass
body? I have an Ultimate suspension kit but with the
fibreglass body it is to stiff due to the weight reduction.
Ive just finished making a complete new wiring loom
and should have the beast mobile soon

I need a headlight surround for My FJ40. It has
to be off one after 1975, which has square ends
instead of round. I was able to get on in Adelaide but
after having it chromed it was damaged in transit. I
hunted all over Adeliade for one good enough to chrome
and havent been able to get another on with out
buying the full front panel. If anyone knows the
whereabouts of a straight undamaged one let me
