This is an autism-diet discussion group.
Many parents of Autistic children have implemented a gluten and casein free diet with very positive results. However many parents have found that additional gains have been made by further limiting the diet to exclude other foods (e.g. soy and corn). Some children are also showing very positive responses to some additional dietary interventions.
The purpose of this list is to provide a forum for discussion regarding advanced dietary treatment options such as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), the Body Ecology Diet (BED), FAILSAFE diet, Feingold diet, Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAP)Diet, Sara's (Lutein free) Diet, Low Oxalate Diet, Low Phosphate Diet, Blood Type Diet, Paleo (Cave Man) diet, grain-free, sugar-free, phenol free, supplementation, and other dietary interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders.
This group is for sharing diet ideas, suitable food lists, recipes, menu suggestions, shops, brands, etc. It is also our aim to provide support for one another in the very difficult task of refining and restricting diets and yet still getting our kids to eat healthy, varied and nutritious meals. We also welcome parents of children with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and kids with food intolerances resulting in asthma, eczema, arthritis, etc, as we believe that these are all part of the spectrum of kids with damaged guts and compromised immune systems.
Please remember that the ideas shared here are not intended as medical advice, and every parent must make their own decisions with the help of an informed physician.
If you are new to this list, please take some time to look through the files section, the links section and the database section, as you will find a great deal of information and recipes listed there. If you can't find what you are looking for then please ask the group. And remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question - it is by asking questions that we all learn.
