Re: [bikers_anon] Carrying stuff

Bill,

I've done the Triumph rally to Jindabyne a few years and think think the best
bet is a mid sized tank bag and possiblly a back pack for the light stuff ( one
pair of undies?, and take half the stuff and twice the money) to compliment what
you already have.
I got a Dri-Rider tank bag that splits in half.I think its around 14lt capacity
The bottom half is pretty useless for anything except a day trip for wet wether
gear etc.
The top half can expand to acomodate more luggage or remain pretty compact for
an overnighter.
Togethether and at full capacity you rest your chin on the thing and dont get a
good view of your speedo.
The other problem for me was that in big (side) winds around Lake George and Sth
Cooma with a full fairing and a high tank bag, you get blown around pretty bad.
I ended up trying to strap the top half of the bag to the rear seat.
But then I can attract bad weather whenever I plan a weekend away.
In good weather,not a problem.
The Magnets hold it on pretty well and I dont worry about the strap that ties it
to the frame at the steering neck. That also makes it easier when its time to
re-fuel.
But I tried a couple to see which fitted my bike/tank best.

Bruce

Can anyone please advise me on what I should buy to increase the carrying
capacity on the Firestorm? I have a ventura rack and pack, but a trial
packing run for the snowy ride shows I'm well short of carrying capacity.
The guys at work reckon I should ditch the 5 pairs of undies and just turn
one pair inside out then back to front !!
Has anyone had any experience with magnetic tankbags - will they fit on that
tank shape? Or would I be better off with an RJAYS spoiler seat bag type
thingo, and will it fit between my big bum and the rack?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Bill
