I Spoke to them too...they had so many conditions. Like you said, get a
photo, how often you ride etc
Then I contacted SWAAN who had no conditions at all and it cost me $1000
LESS!
Worth shopping around. I think if they are fussy in the beginning, what
happens when you try to claim? Etc
Haven't tried Shannons...used to limit to weekend riding, but they have
expanded slightly.

Doug

Western QBE has always been the cheapest for me with
good service. The 'living in unit' thing I sorted out
by sending them a photo of my LUG (which they actually
requested). They sent me an updated statement after
that.
However, this flury of emails prompted me to call
Shannons about covering my Gixxer 1000. They quoted
me $855 as compared to $1300 with QBE! They told me
that the '8k limited use' thing is more about
recreational weekend riding or 'not riding every day'
and that there actually isn't a km limit.
However, when I clarified that as much as I wanted the
$855 premium and I do mainly ride at weekends, I
really needed to know that if I make a claim in the
future they won't stall on me because of the high
total recreational kilomteres I do - probably about
15-20,000km/yr - he said he needed to speak to his
boss! They then agreed that I would need to be put
on the normal usage rate which put it up to $1039 -
still cheaper than QBE - but that they would split the
difference. So final quote from Shannons is $983.
This includes having David on my policy (who's
younger), cover for instruction even on a race track
(no, track days are definitely NOT included!), up to
$3,000 cover for riding gear and up to $1500 for
pillion.
If I put my car and contents insurance with them it
will be even cheaper again and they allow monthly
payments unlike the others.
QBE are still giving me the service and have offered
to try and match it, but I think I know where I will
end up this month when my bike renewal comes up!!

as of 2 months ago.
Although I'm currently having a bit of an argument
with them. They
want to charge me $900 theft excess. Why? Because I
live in an
apartment. They don't believe that I have a single
LUG that only I
have access to.
And every time I call them up get, we'll update that
and send you out
an updated policy statement. Still no statement.
About to call them up for the third time now.
Shannons is only good if you ride your bike
infrequently. They are
mainly targetting weekend warriors (under 8k a year).
