Re: [bikers_anon] Re: Fw: Details of Bathurst 2007

Well said, I'm still lost on Easter weekends.
Never had to think, just load the bike (and occasionally the ute with the
beer and essentials for the girls to drive up) and go.
Lining up at the back door of one of the local pubs on Easter Friday if
ever we ran out of beer.
So many good friends made and well met every year on the Mountain.
Consternation when the Police Compound was built on the bull ring.
Late nights in Bathurst emergency room.
and watching some of the best on one of the worlds scariest race tracks, AJ
was one, head down and airborne over the third hump.

Best memory, waiting to take a picture of a mate at the end of Conrod and
no show, saw him in the pits and asked what happened;
"Stopped due to a slight electrical problem, I put a conrod through the
starter motor"

cheers,
CJ

Bathurst for Bikes...agreed..

Nothing shouts anticipation as loud as waiting at the top of the
Mountain, hearing the bikes approach for the 1st lap pass...of
Tz750's (described as a dinosaur bike even back then) and GPZr900's
and the 250's...125s..CBR's 500 2strokes...occasional Duke or
Guzzi...

Of packing the camping equipment, planning food lists, then whittling
it back down to essentials...Stones Green Ginger Wine, scotch,
muscat, beer (bit bulky)..

Setting off for the ride over the mountains (Bells Line...of course :-
) . running the gauntlet of police and tintops.

Of dealing with alcohol bans... (the car brigade caused more issues
at Bathurst than the riders)...stuffing airboxes with hip flasks and
wine bladders of spirits...then wondering why the Mountain claimed
yet more bikes, unable to aspirate up the dirt track to the top...

Jovial groups, spending the Easter running some designated wretched
piece of agricultural machinery into the ground (usually Jap because
it'd still take a whole weekend to finally kill the darn thing)...set
on fire, redlined for an eternity, shredded tyres...the cacophonic
shriek of stressed mechanicals...not music to the ears of a
mechanical engineer.

The lads doing circle work in some kingswood ute..

Love the smell of burning Channel 7 newswagon's in the morning.

Bathurst was indeed a blast, and I never felt concerned for life or
limb amongst the Mountain community..

Political nannygoats savoured the opportunity to blood the police
riot squads on some trivial "bikies". The start of the end for
Bathurst.

And did the people of Bathurst love Us ?

Well..into town to grab a feed at the RSL, local committee members
handing us badges and thanking us for braving the political
nannygoats wanting to kill off the event. "You will always be welcome
in Bathurst" assured one ol digger.

Yet it still came back to the worldclass racing....that anticipation
as the bikes climb the Mountain on that first lap.... did someone
open a window? I;ve got goosebumps !

Bathurst were not attending. Having raced there half a dozen times I
have experienced the rush of holding on for over a mile @ 16,000rpm
down Conrod hoping the engine would hold up till the start/finish
straight, not to mention the hope that my pants would stay clean. I
have seen fellow racers become part of the tragedy and awe that is
Bathurst.

the New Era class next year I thought this was tops. Not to take any
credit from the stunt guys or the FMX, I long for the rush off coming
out of McPhilamy(?) park across skyline in 3rd gear redlined doing
about 200kph and all you can see is Lithgow in the distance. Ah the
memories!
