Ahh, the age old question.
I'll be surprised if anyone tells you that getting an R1 off your P's
is a good idea. And I'm not going to tell you that its too much bike
for a newbie, hel its too much bike for 90% of R1 owners.
What I will say is this. Any litre bike will only inhibit your
learning. If you have any intention on learning to ride properly, and
I mean really learn the craft, going to the R1 will dramatically slow
or stop this process. Even 600s are horrifyingly quick. I, and
hopefully many others, wholeheartedly discourage you from going down
this path. Unles your interest is in straight line speed. In which
case... go for a turbo charged hyabusa.
I almost did what you're asking but decided to go 250 to 600. I do
believe I am a much better rider for it. After 2 years and lots of
track days and racing, I still don't think I can ride a litre bike
well enough to warrant owning one.
