Steve, I recently stepped down from a 2000 GSXR750 to a 2001 GSXR600 and guess
what, I'm quicker on the 600 than I was on the 750 in the tight stuff. That
said I'd still like another 750 as its a far more practical bike when you don't
own a car (the 750 pillions and caries luggage better).
What sort of 250 are you on now? Going from say a CB250 or a tralie to a
hypersports bike is plain mad if you don't have any experience on them. And
being a much bigger bike theirs one eventuality, you will drop it, you will come
in too hot, basically you will mess up because the bike will be far more capable
than you will be for some time yet. Not to mention the insurance costs with
such little riding experience, you should look into this as well.
IMHO, unless the 250 is chronically ill. Keep it until your riding levels start
to outstrip the bikes ability, and then step up to a 2nd hand 600/750cc (or
somewhere in-between if your a kwaka/trumpy fan) bike and spend the money you
saved on rider training and good safety gear.
Greg.

Subject: [bikers_anon] P's to an R1
Guys I am 26 and been on my P's for 5 months. In November I can
upgrade to anything and I was thinking well I could get a 2007 Yamaha
R1. I like to think I am over the stupid stage of my life but I am
going from a cheap 250cc to a 1000cc anyway plus it is an R1. I mean I
will go dame this is quick first up but that is going to happen anyway
because I am going from a 250. Is this just crazy or is this upgrade
realistic provided I take it easy for a while. Let me know your
thoughts.
