Speeding motorcyclist - Central Coast
7 May 2007
Police on the state’s Central Coast have issued a strong warning to
motorists: flout the law and you will be caught.
It follows two separate incidents yesterday (Sunday 6 May), in which the
safety of the public was put at risk by the actions of two motorists.
About 10.25pm, police attached to Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol allegedly
observed a blue Yamaha R1 1000cc sports motorcycle travelling about 160kph
in a 70kph zone on Wyong Road, Berkeley Vale.
The officers positioned their fully-marked police car behind the
motorbike, following it to Enterprise Drive, Fountaindale, where it
allegedly accelerated away from the patrol car.
The bike allegedly reached speeds in excess of 180kph in the sign-posted
80kph zone. A pursuit was initiated and police followed the motorcyclist
to the intersection of Orchard and Ourimbah Roads, where he lost control
on a grass shoulder.
Both the rider and a female pillion passenger were thrown from the bike;
however, neither was hurt in the crash.
The 24-year-old Berowra Heights man was arrested at the scene and taken to
The Entrance Police Station, where further enquiries revealed he had
previously been disqualified from driving until 2015. He was subsequently
charged with numerous offences, including:
 Driving a vehicle recklessly/furiously or in speed/manner
dangerous;
 Exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kph;
 Using an unregistered registrable motor vehicle;
 Using an uninsured motor vehicle;
 Driving whilst disqualified from holding a licence;
 Displaying a misleading registration label; and
 Resisting an officer in the execution of his duty.
He’s been refused bail to appear in Wyong Local Court later today.
With best regards,
