Hi BAers,
Firstly a big thankyou to Andre (membership coordinator) for all your work
behind the scenes to make this day happen and to those at Kawasaki for putting
in your time on a saturday to make this day the success it was.
The day started off with 12 of us taking in a group ride from Chatswood to the
Kawasaki warehouse at Rydelmere while the rest of met us at the venue. For those
of you that were Ba group ride virgins I hope you had fun. Jason (secretary
Yellow Gt650) led us on our way and we arrived to Kawasaki banners, some groovy
green furniture and some shiny kwaka bikes in the car park outside the
warehouse. It was nice to get there and have a chat over a hot drink and thaw
out a bit. For some of you that attended it may have been a surprise to you that
we were able to do some test rides so I hope you were stoked. We all nominatedÂ
what bikes we wanted to test ride and after discussing the ride route the fist
group got ready to ride. For me it was the beautiful green 08 ZX10r and Fi sat
on the back to test the pillion seat. It was good to see some people try a bike
they would normally not ride, Bill looked super cool on the VN900. The ride
route was around 8kms long
with a little opportunity to twist the throttle a bit. The first group came in
with smiles and handed the bikes over to the next group. We were able to have 4
groups go out all up so I hope everyone was satisfied with the bikes they got to
ride. I was able to take out the Vn900 out with Andre as bitch which was fun.
Next was a bbq which Kawasaki had put on with some yummy sausages and drinks and
discussions on the merits of the bikes we had just ridden.
After lunch we were shown a presentation on Kawasaki's history and also some of
the other things kawasaki manufactures. What would the world do without
Kawasaki, From making ships, powerstations, superfast (of course) trains, rocket
and spacestation components, helicopters and aircraft engines to the tunnel
boaring machines used to make the english channel tunnel. And who could forget
the wonderful range of motorcycles and jetskis most of you would know kawasaki
make, All this to make the world green : )
The presentation also had a little overview of motorcycle components and a
simple explanation on how they all function.
After this we were given a tour of the warehouse and shown workshop of the
Kawasaki race team. We were able to see Zx10r and Zx6r race bikes in various
states up close and had a talk by Dave 'radar' Cullen and Superbike rider
Shannon Johnson on the workings within the kawasaki aus superbike team. It was
pretty cool to see up close a motec equipped Zx10r superbike also.
The end of the day was now upon us and we said our goodbyes and were handed a
nice little green goodie bag. A had a big grin on my face as I saw everyone
leaving with a little bit of kawasaki green on them and big smiles.
A big thank you to everyone that attended today and also a huge thanks again to
all at Kawasaki Rydelmere and Shannon Johnson for your efforts to making this a
very enjoyable day.
